The official beta is installed through Battle.net and tied to your account. Forever WoW’s own connection instructions describe realm-specific patches and a patched executable instead. Don’t use one service’s download instructions for the other. No specific patch or installer has been supplied or scanned, so there is no evidence-based way to call a particular file safe or unsafe.
First, identify which WoW Forever you mean

Blizzard’s beta guidance says that selected players’ Battle.net accounts are already flagged for access. If you received an unexpected email, don’t rely on its attachment or link: sign in to Battle.net directly and check the account.

How to install and verify the official beta
- Launch the Battle.net desktop app from your computer, rather than opening a download link in an unsolicited message.
- Select World of Warcraft in the app.
- Open the version or game selection menu and look under In Development for World of Warcraft: Forever Beta.
- Select the beta and choose Install. If it is not available and you believe you were invited, check whether the beta license is attached to the Battle.net account you signed into.
Blizzard’s official instructions describe Battle.net as the installation route. A download hosted elsewhere, even if it uses the same product name, is not verified by those instructions.

How to assess a downloaded file on Windows
These checks can help you evaluate a file’s origin and detect some threats; they cannot guarantee that a file is harmless. The exact installer, patch, file hash, and computer involved matter. No particular WoW Forever binary has been examined here.

- Check the source first. Confirm that the download came from the service’s expected site or, for Blizzard’s beta, from Battle.net. Pause if the file came from an unsolicited message, an unexpected mirror, or a page that asks you to use a patched executable when you intended to install Blizzard’s beta.
- Inspect the publisher signature. In Windows, right-click the executable, choose Properties, and open Digital Signatures if that tab is present. A valid signature can help identify the publisher and show whether the signed file was altered afterward. Check who signed it: a valid signature from a publisher you do not recognize does not make the file a Blizzard download.
- Pay attention to reputation warnings. SmartScreen or Smart App Control may warn about an app based on reputation signals. A warning is a reason to stop and verify the source, not to disable protection so the install can continue. A lack of a warning is not a blanket safety guarantee.
- Scan the file. Microsoft says Defender Antivirus scans files and processes opened or downloaded by default, and Windows also lets you scan a specific file or folder. In File Explorer, right-click the download and choose Scan with Microsoft Defender (the wording can vary by Windows version). Keep Defender or another current security tool enabled.
- Stop if anything does not line up. Don’t run a file flagged by your security software or follow instructions to turn protections off just to install it. Recheck the source and the intended service before proceeding.
Microsoft describes digital signatures and app reputation as trust signals, not proof that every signed or unflagged app is safe. A clean scan also cannot establish that a file is authentic or appropriate for the service you meant to use.
Security and Blizzard’s terms are separate questions
A security check cannot determine whether using a third-party server complies with Blizzard’s terms. Blizzard’s license text states that unauthorized connections to its service, including unauthorized servers that emulate it, are prohibited. That is Blizzard’s stated license restriction, not a universal legal ruling; consult current terms and local law for your circumstances.

What Blizzard says about the official product
Blizzard’s product page says the official product requires a WoW subscription or game time, plus a Battle.net account and desktop app. It lists a launch date of November 4, 2026. That launch date describes the product page’s stated schedule; it does not verify a third-party patch or establish that a particular download is safe.
