How to Check Whether Starlink or Fiber Is Available at Your Address

To check Starlink, enter your service address in Starlink’s official availability map. To check fiber in the United States, search your address in the FCC National Broadband Map and look for “fiber” in the fixed-broadband listings. Treat both maps as screening tools: confirm that the provider will accept an order and verify price, installation, and timing directly with it.

Check Starlink availability at your address

  1. Open Starlink’s official Availability Map.
  2. Enter your service address and select the matching address from the suggestions.
  3. Read the status shown for that location. Starlink labels service “Available” or “Coming Soon”; its map explains that “Available” means service is available now, while “Coming Soon” means coverage or regulatory approval is pending.
  4. Review the plans shown for the location, then confirm current order eligibility and installation terms with Starlink.

Address availability and installation suitability are separate checks. Starlink says the service requires an unobstructed view of the sky and points customers to its app to assess a suitable installation location.

Check fiber availability in the United States

  1. Open the FCC National Broadband Map and enter the street address under “Search by Address.” Select the matching suggestion. If the address is in the FCC location database, the FCC guide says it appears in capital letters below the search bar.
  2. Select the mapped location point for the home or building.
  3. Inspect the fixed-broadband providers and technologies listed for that location. Look for “fiber”; a listing for cable, DSL, satellite, or fixed wireless is not a fiber listing.
  4. For any provider of interest, note the maximum advertised download and upload speeds reported for the location.
  5. Contact the provider to verify that it accepts orders for the exact address and to confirm price, equipment, installation requirements, and timing.

The FCC map is for the United States. If the street address is not found, the FCC guide says to try a town and state, or use the map’s Location option and zoom manually. The points represent buildings or structures, which may be a home, an apartment or condo building, or a small business.

What the maps can—and cannot—tell you

Starlink’s map

Starlink’s map provides an address-level service status and displays plans for the location. A status is not a substitute for checking current order terms, and a service-available result does not establish that a particular installation site has a clear view of the sky.

The FCC map

The FCC National Broadband Map displays fixed broadband availability reported by internet service providers. Its fixed-service listings include fiber, cable, DSL, satellite, and fixed wireless. For a selected location, the map shows providers, technologies, and maximum advertised download and upload speeds. Providers submit these data through the FCC’s Broadband Data Collection; fixed providers report service location by location and file data twice a year. The FCC says the map is updated continuously through verification, provider submissions, location-data updates, and public input.

The FCC explicitly distinguishes availability from network performance, affordability, and adoption. A provider listing or advertised speed is therefore not a guarantee of the speed you will experience, the price you will pay, or acceptance of an order for your address. The FCC’s help article, “How to Use the FCC’s National Broadband Map,” was updated May 15, 2025; its “What’s on the National Broadband Map” article was updated November 25, 2025.

What to compare before choosing

Check What to look for What still needs confirmation
Exact-address eligibility Whether the map identifies service at the location. Whether the provider accepts an order for the exact service address.
Technology Whether the FCC listing says “fiber,” rather than another fixed technology. Which service and installation the provider will actually supply.
Advertised speeds The FCC map’s reported maximum download and upload speeds for a listed provider. Actual performance at the home; advertised maximums are not a performance guarantee.
Order and installation Plans shown in Starlink’s map, or providers listed in the FCC map. Current price, equipment, installation requirements, and order timing.

The map information does not establish comparative speed, latency, reliability, or price for a particular address. Compare provider-confirmed terms for the exact location rather than assuming one technology will perform or cost better there.

If a map result is missing or looks wrong

For the FCC map, use the challenge process when appropriate. A Location Challenge is for a missing or incorrect home or small-business location; an Availability Challenge is for service information that appears inaccurate. The FCC’s challenge guidance, updated May 15, 2025, explains that the map shows availability, not network performance, affordability, or adoption. A challenge disputes reported map information; it does not replace checking service directly with the provider.

If an address is missing, first try the town and state or locate the building by zooming manually. If a listing conflicts with what a provider tells you, ask the provider to verify the exact address and service technology, then consider submitting the relevant FCC challenge.
