To check whether your Rejetto HTTP File Server (HFS) is reachable from the internet, identify its version and listening port, then try its public address from a device on a network outside your home or office. A page that loads confirms reachability by that route at that time; it does not prove that any particular file is exposed, that authentication is missing, or that the server has been compromised.
Check the HFS version and listening port first
On the computer running HFS, open its console or administration interface and record the exact version and configured listening port. The HFS 3 configuration reference documents port and security settings; its documented default port is 80, but an installation may use another port. A configured listener does not, by itself, mean the server can be reached from the public internet.

Version matters before you decide what to do next. Rejetto’s support page warns that HFS 2.3–2.4 is dangerous, says version 2 has no official fix, and states that version 3 has not been affected by those issues. The CISA advisory also recommends HFS 3.x for users of the affected older software.

In HFS, inspect the virtual file system and permissions to see which folders or files are shared and who can access them. HFS is designed to serve selected content through a browser, so two questions need separate answers: can an outsider reach the service, and what content or functions can that visitor access? The configuration reference describes sharing and relevant settings.
#1 Best Overall
- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Test from outside your local network
- Find the public address or configured domain. Use the address that should lead to this HFS server, not its local-network address.
- Use an external connection. For example, turn off Wi-Fi on a phone and use its mobile data. A second device on the same Wi-Fi is not an external test.
- Open the address with the configured port. Include the port if it is not the default for the connection you are using. The HFS documentation describes its browser-based server model and port configuration.
- Interpret the result narrowly. If the HFS page responds, the service is reachable through that address and route at that moment. Review the shared content, permissions, and administrative exposure; a response alone is not a full security assessment.
Run this check only against a system you own or are authorized to assess.
If the page loads
Decide whether public access is intended. If it is not, remove or restrict the exposure and confirm the result with another external check. If access is intentional, review shared files and permissions, enable HTTPS where appropriate, and consider HFS 3 controls such as domain-only access, the antibrute plugin, and restrictions on administrative access. The project’s HFS repository describes these measures, and the configuration reference documents HTTPS options and the admin_net setting. These controls reduce risks but do not guarantee a server is safe.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
If the page does not load
A failed attempt does not establish that HFS is private. Check the likely causes in order:
- Confirm HFS is running and listening on the port you recorded.
- Verify that you used the correct public address or domain and port.
- Check whether firewall rules, router configuration, or upstream network routing prevent the connection.
- Repeat the check from a genuinely external network after correcting any misconfiguration.
These checks help explain a failed connection; without access to your host and network configuration, the result alone cannot identify the cause.

- Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Wi-Fi - Next-gen Wi-Fi 6 AX3000 whole home mesh system to eliminate weak Wi-Fi for good(2×2/HE160 2402 Mbps plus 2×2 574 Mbps)
- Whole Home WiFi Coverage - Covers up to 6500 square feet with seamless high-performance Wi-Fi 6 and eliminate dead zones and buffering. Better than traditional WiFi booster and Range Extenders
- Connect More Devices - Deco X55(3-pack) is strong enough to connect up to 150 devices with strong and reliable Wi-Fi
- Our Cybersecurity Commitment - TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement
- More Gigabit Ports - Each Deco X55 has 3 Gigabit Ethernet ports(6 in total for a 2-pack) and supports Wired Ethernet Backhaul for better speeds. Any of them can work as a Wi-Fi Router
What to do if you have HFS 2.3–2.4
Treat an HFS 2.3–2.4 installation as urgent to remediate, especially if it is publicly reachable. Rejetto’s support guidance says version 2 has no official fix and recommends moving to HFS 3. A Belgian Centre for Cybersecurity advisory reports active exploitation associated with CVE-2024-23692 and recommends HFS 3.x. That historical advisory is not evidence that a particular installation has been compromised; reachability and compromise are different questions.
Take an obsolete instance out of public service while planning migration to HFS 3 or another maintained solution. After migration, verify the new version’s sharing and access settings, then perform the external reachability check again.
