A music video is suitable for a 24/7 YouTube stream only when you have permission for the specific recording and every other protected element in the video, for the intended territories and uses. Check that the permission covers continuous livestreaming, monetization if you plan to monetize, and any archived replay. If a rights holder uses Content ID, ask it to allowlist your channel as well: permission and allowlisting address different problems, and neither guarantees the other.
What you need to verify before using a video
Being available on YouTube, purchased, marked “free,” or credited in a description does not establish that you may rebroadcast it continuously. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the operator to have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation of the live content on Google services, including relevant music licensing rights. A license may also be geographically limited, may cover an ordinary uploaded video but not a livestream, or may exclude archiving or monetization.

For each video, establish permission for the particular channel and intended use. Do not treat a song title, uploader’s assurance, or a general licensing page as proof that the relevant rights holder controls that exact recording and video.

A music video can include a sound recording (the master), the underlying musical work and lyrics, and visual material such as a film, performance, or other footage. Those elements may be controlled by different owners or administrators. A license for one layer does not necessarily clear the others.

In India, IPRS describes licensing musical and associated literary works under its control; PPL India describes licensing member sound recordings. These are useful places to understand possible rights administrators, not blanket clearance for all Indian songs, all music videos, or worldwide livestream use. Confirm the specific work is within the relevant repertoire and that the grant covers your intended online use and territories. The Government of India’s copyright overview likewise distinguishes musical works, sound recordings, and cinematograph films, and describes rights that include communication to the public. Which rights apply depends on the work, ownership, contract, territory, and use.
Track-by-track clearance checklist
- Make an inventory. For every video, record its title and URL, song title, artists, label, uploader, and the exact recording or version. Note footage, logos, performances, samples, or other third-party material. Two videos using the same song may have different recordings and rights packages.
- Identify the rights holders and administrators. Determine who controls the sound recording and who controls or administers the composition and lyrics. Establish who can authorize any included footage or other protected material. Check repertoire and authority for the specific work rather than inferring control from an organization’s general description.
- Get explicit written permission. Have the grant identify the specific recording or video and your channel. It should expressly cover YouTube livestreaming, continuous or repeated 24/7 use, the territories where the stream will be available, and monetization if applicable. Confirm that the granting party has authority over each right it purports to license.
- Check the archive separately. Confirm whether permission covers saving and replaying the livestream. YouTube says Content ID claims on archived livestreams may be made after the stream ends when the operator chooses to archive it. Permission for live transmission should not be assumed to cover the saved video.
- Ask about Content ID allowlisting. If a third-party owner has licensed the material, request that it allowlist your channel and keep the confirmation. YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content, and a stream may still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted.
- Keep a clearance file and response plan. Save the licenses, track list, territory and term details, owner contacts, and allowlist confirmations. Monitor YouTube Studio while the stream runs; if YouTube identifies a match or warns about content, be prepared to stop or replace the affected material.
Use this scope checklist to compare licenses
| Check | What to confirm in writing |
|---|---|
| Rights covered | Sound recording, composition and lyrics, and any protected visuals or other material in the video. |
| Authority and repertoire | The licensor controls or administers the particular work and recording, and is authorized to grant the requested use. |
| Territory | Worldwide coverage if that is the intended audience, or the exact territories permitted. |
| Format and duration | YouTube livestream use, continuous or repeated 24/7 use, and the term of the permission. |
| Archive and monetization | Whether saved replays are permitted and what monetization conditions apply. |
| Content ID handling | Whether the channel will be allowlisted and whom to contact if a match still interrupts the stream. |
What YouTube enforcement can do
YouTube says livestreams are scanned for third-party content, including another live broadcast. It may replace the stream with a placeholder; if the material remains, the stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a stream. A Content ID match is an enforcement event, not a reliable test of whether you hold a license: a licensed stream may still need allowlisting, while the absence of a warning does not establish that use is authorized.

Creator Music is not a workaround for a 24/7 music stream. Its track licenses and revenue-sharing options are restricted to long-form videos, not livestreams. For replacement material, YouTube points creators to its Audio Library, original music, or third-party sources whose applicable licenses have been checked. Attribution or a “free” label alone does not settle whether continuous live use is allowed.

Common clearance problems and what to do
- The video is already on YouTube: Treat that as availability, not permission to rebroadcast. Identify the relevant rights holders and obtain a grant for your use.
- You bought or downloaded the track: A purchase or off-platform license may not include public livestreaming, worldwide use, or replay. Read the actual license for platform, format, territory, duration, and reuse limits.
- You credited the artist: Credit is not a substitute for authorization. Get the required rights in writing.
- You have a license but YouTube interrupts the stream: Contact the licensor about Content ID allowlisting and provide the channel details it needs. Preserve the license and its response; a license alone does not ensure the matching system will let the stream continue.
- You cannot confirm who controls a track or video: Do not include it in a continuous stream until the necessary rights and scope are established. Replace it with material you created or properly licensed for the intended use.
- You want to monetize or keep a replay: Verify those uses explicitly rather than assuming they follow from live-use permission.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist running as a YouTube livestream: upload your recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer can be off; StreamNeo does not go live from a camera. It handles delivery, not music clearance, so use only material you have permission to stream and archive.
