On Android, go to profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Payment methods → Google Play balance. On a computer, go to play.google.com, open your profile menu, choose Payment & Subscriptions, and read Play Balance. Google says a redeemed gift card’s amount is added to this balance, so this page is the authoritative check.
This method works whether the credit came from a gift card, a supported cash top-up, or Play Points converted to credit. The available options differ by country, but the balance page remains the place to verify that credit is currently attached to an account.

Check your Google Play balance first
The balance shown for the relevant Google Account tells you whether usable Play credit is currently available. You do not need to redeem the code again, buy another card, or install a separate app. Use the route that matches the device on which you are signed in.

| Android phone or tablet | Google Play app → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Payment methods → Google Play balance | The displayed amount and the Google Account currently selected |
| Computer browser | play.google.com → profile menu → Payment & Subscriptions → Play Balance | The displayed amount under the signed-in account |
Google’s instructions for checking a balance are available for Android phones and tablets and for computers. The labels can differ slightly in capitalization between the app and website, but the sequence is the same: identify the account, open payment methods or subscriptions, and read the Play balance.

A redemption confirmation by itself is not the final check. The balance page shows the account’s current available credit. If you are checking after someone else gave you a card, make sure you are not looking at the balance of a different Google Account that happens to be signed in on the same device.
Check on an Android phone or tablet
- Open the Google Play app.
- Tap your profile icon in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Payments & subscriptions.
- Tap Payment methods.
- Read the amount shown beside Google Play balance.
The account represented by the profile icon is the account whose balance you are viewing. If you use more than one Google Account on the device, tap the profile control and confirm that the account name or address is the one used when the credit was redeemed.
Do not assume that the first account listed is the one that received the credit. A family member, work account, or secondary personal account may have been selected during redemption. Switch accounts deliberately and repeat the balance check for each account that could have been used. The credit is associated with the account selected at redemption; it is not automatically pooled across accounts on the phone or tablet.
If the Play app is already open on a purchase screen, return to the profile menu rather than trying to infer the balance from the price of an app or subscription. The payment-method page gives you the specific Play balance amount.
Check on a computer
- Open play.google.com in a browser.
- Open the profile menu.
- Select Payment & Subscriptions.
- Locate Play Balance and read the amount.
Use the same Google Account that redeemed the code or otherwise received the credit. If the browser has several Google sessions open, the profile menu identifies which account is active before you interpret the amount.
When you are unsure which account is active, do not rely on a browser tab that was opened earlier. Open the profile menu on the current Play page and verify the account address shown there. Then check the balance. If necessary, switch to another account in the profile menu and perform the same check again.
The computer route and Android route answer the same question. Choose whichever makes the account identity easiest to confirm; neither route is a separate type of balance, and checking on a computer does not move or alter the credit.
How to confirm that a particular redemption was credited
Match the account selected during redemption
Google asks you to review the account shown during gift-card redemption and confirm that it is the intended account. The amount is attached to that account, not automatically shared across accounts on the device. If the balance is unchanged, first switch to the account that was displayed during redemption and check its balance.

Google’s gift-card instructions explain that “when you redeem a gift card, the gift card amount gets added to your Google Play balance.” You can read the full guidance in Google Play Help.
Interpret the amount on the balance page
An increase that matches the redeemed denomination indicates that the credit is available. A balance that is unchanged, or that is displayed under a different account, does not prove that the code failed; it may mean you are viewing the wrong account. Do not attempt repeated redemptions while you are still checking account identity.
If the expected amount is visible, the practical verification is complete: the credit was added to that account. Keep in mind that Play balance is not the same as a card’s printed value once a card has been redeemed. The relevant figure is the current amount displayed in Google Play, including any credit that was already in the account.

Avoid buying another card as a test. A second purchase will not identify which account received the first credit and can make the account history harder to untangle.
If your Google Play credit is missing
Work through these checks in order. Each addresses a different failure point, so stop once the balance appears. These checks apply to a missing Google Play gift-card credit as well as to an account where the expected amount is not visible after another supported credit method.
1. Verify the Google Account
Sign out of the assumption that the phone’s default account is the correct one. In Google Play, use the profile control to identify the account, then view its balance. Repeat for any other account that you may have selected during redemption. A code redeemed on one account will not place the credit in another account’s balance.
If another person redeemed the card for you, ask which account was shown at the time. If nobody remembers, check every Google Account you control rather than repeatedly entering the code. Google’s account selector is the most useful evidence you can verify yourself.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2. Handle an “already redeemed” message
Google says an “already redeemed” code cannot be redeemed again and that the credit should appear in the Google Play balance. Check the balance for the account used at redemption rather than trying the code repeatedly. If the message appears to be an error after you have checked the relevant account, contact Google Play support.

For privacy and security reasons, Google says it cannot disclose which Google Account redeemed a gift card. Support therefore cannot simply reveal another person’s account to you; the practical first step is to check every account you control that could have been selected. An “already redeemed” result is not a reason to assume the credit vanished. It means the code is no longer available for another redemption, so the balance of the original account is the key check.
3. Check activation of a physical card
Some physical gift cards must be activated by the retailer at purchase. Google cannot activate a card for the store. Ask the retailer to confirm activation. If the retailer confirms that the card was activated but redemption still fails, use Google’s gift-card support process.
Keep the physical card and purchase information while you resolve the problem. The retailer is the party that can address a card that was not activated at checkout; Google is the next contact when the retailer confirms activation but the code still cannot be redeemed. Do not scratch additional cards or discard the receipt while the activation question is unresolved.
4. Check country, currency, and balance limits
Google Play gift cards are restricted to the country and currency where they were purchased. Your Google Play country or region must match the offer. A country-specific balance limit can also block a redemption if adding the card would take the account over that limit. Review the restrictions in Google Play’s gift-card availability guidance before treating a regional error as an account-credit problem.
For example, a card purchased in one country is not automatically interchangeable with a card or account configured for another country. Check the card’s purchase location and currency against the Google Play country and the offer shown to you. A mismatch can prevent redemption even when the code itself has been entered correctly.
| What you see | Most useful next check |
|---|---|
| The balance includes the expected amount | The credit is in that account; use it for eligible Google Play purchases. |
| “Already redeemed” | Check the balance of the account used during redemption; do not redeem the code again. |
| A physical card will not redeem | Ask the retailer to verify activation, then contact Google if activation is confirmed. |
| Country, currency, or limit error | Confirm the purchase country, account region, currency, and the applicable balance limit. |
| No change after checking the correct account | Use Google Play support with the redemption details and the result of the checks above. |
Credit does not always come from a gift card
Gift cards are only one way a Google Play balance can increase. Google’s balance instructions also describe cash top-ups where available and Play Points converted to credit. Those options and their rules vary by country, so do not assume that a top-up or points conversion is offered on every account. Regardless of the source, the balance page is where you verify that the credit is currently available.
If you converted Play Points or used a supported cash top-up, check the same account and balance path described above. A gift-card troubleshooting step, such as asking a retailer about activation, applies only to a physical card and not to those other credit sources. Conversely, a country restriction or balance limit may still matter because availability and rules for these options are country-specific.

What Google Play balance credit can be used for
Google Play balance is credit for eligible apps, games, and other digital content on Google Play. Eligibility can depend on the item and your country. Seeing a balance confirms that the credit is present; it does not guarantee that every purchase or subscription accepts Play balance as a payment method.
Google says gift cards and prepaid Play balances generally are not refundable or transferable, except where required by law. In practice, check the account carefully before redeeming: moving the credit to a different Google Account later is generally not an option.
A visible balance also does not mean that the original physical card remains usable. Once its value has been redeemed, the account balance—not the printed card—is what represents the credit. Keep the card and purchase information only for troubleshooting, activation, or support; do not expect to transfer the redeemed amount between accounts.

Account and region checks before contacting support
- Identify the exact Google Account shown in the Play profile menu.
- Open the balance page on Android or at play.google.com rather than relying only on a redemption message.
- Record whether the code was reported as already redeemed, rejected, or blocked by a regional restriction.
- For a physical card, obtain the retailer’s activation confirmation.
- Confirm that the card’s purchase country and currency match the Google Play country and offer.
- Note whether the credit came from a gift card, a supported cash top-up, or Play Points conversion.
- Check whether adding the amount could exceed the balance limit that applies in the account’s country.
These details let Google or the retailer address the relevant issue without guessing which account, card, or region is involved. Do not send a gift-card code to unrelated people or publish it while asking for help. Use the official Google Play support route and provide only the information requested there.
Official help for unresolved cases
For balance instructions, see How to add to & check your Google Play balance on a computer or the Android phone and tablet version. For redemption and “already redeemed” errors, use Fix problems with Google Play gift cards and codes. For country availability, currency, and card restrictions, consult About Google Play gift cards and where to buy them.
Start with the balance page on the account that received the credit. If the amount is there, the credit was added; if it is not, the account, card activation, or regional checks identify the next action. There is no need to purchase a product or install special software to perform this check.

Best Value
What does “Google Play gift card already redeemed” mean?
Google says the code cannot be redeemed again and that its credit should appear in the Google Play balance. Check the balance of the account selected during redemption. If the amount is not there after checking accounts you control, contact Google Play support.
Can Google tell me which account redeemed a gift card?
No. Google says privacy and security rules prevent it from disclosing which Google Account redeemed a gift card. Check every account you may have selected and then use official support if the balance is still missing.
Why will my physical Google Play card not redeem?
Some physical cards require retailer activation. Ask the retailer to confirm activation. Google cannot activate the card for the store; if activation is confirmed but redemption still fails, contact Google Play support.

Can a gift card from another country add credit to my account?
Google Play gift cards are restricted to the country and currency where they were purchased. The Google Play country or region must match, and a country-specific balance limit can also block redemption.
Is Google Play balance transferable or refundable?
Google says gift cards and prepaid Play balances generally are not refundable or transferable, except where required by law. Verify the account before redeeming because moving the credit later is generally not available.
Do all Google Play credits come from gift cards?
No. Google’s balance guidance also describes cash top-ups where available and Play Points converted to credit. Availability and rules vary by country, but each type is verified on the same Google Play balance page.
The Bottom Line
To check whether Google Play Store credit was added, view Google Play balance on the exact Google Account used to receive it. Android uses Google Play → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Payment methods; a computer uses play.google.com → profile → Payment & Subscriptions. If the amount is missing, check the account first, then card activation, country and currency restrictions, and applicable balance limits.
