To check a bag of frozen blueberries, compare its brand and product name, package size, UPC, lot code, and best-by or best-before date with the identifiers in the official recall notice. A brand or ingredient match alone does not mean your package is affected. Start with the FDA’s recall alerts and Enforcement Report, then check the recalling company’s notice; FDA says not all recalls appear on its alerts page.
Where to check for frozen-blueberry recalls
- Open the FDA Recalls, Market Withdrawals, & Safety Alerts page and search for the brand, product, or company name.
- Check the FDA Enforcement Report for relevant entries.
- Open the notice that matches the product or company. Check the recalling firm’s notice too: FDA cautions that its alerts page does not include every recall.
- Compare the notice with the package itself. Use the identifiers below rather than relying on the product category or brand name alone.
How to match a package to a recall notice
Look for the product name, size, UPC, lot or product code, and best-by, use-by, or best-before date. The notice may also identify where the product was distributed. Treat distribution as a way to narrow the search, not a substitute for checking the actual package identifiers.

Check earlier related notices too
The October 2 announcement is not a replacement for every earlier notice involving frozen berries. FDA’s outbreak investigation page records a July 2026 GreenWise recall covering all lots of specified GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries in 10 oz and 48 oz sizes. It also describes an earlier Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend lot. If you have one of those products, check the corresponding notice for the complete identifiers and instructions; do not assume the October 2 list covers it.
What to do if your package matches
- Do not eat, serve, or give it to a pet. Follow the product-specific notice. For the products in the October 2 announcement, discard the product or return it to the named retailer for a full refund.
- Clean surfaces that may have contacted the food. FDA advises washing and sanitizing potentially contaminated refrigerator shelves, countertops, cutting boards, and utensils. Its published procedure specifies one tablespoon of chlorine bleach per gallon of hot water. Dry with a clean cloth or paper towel that has not been previously used, then wash your hands with warm water and soap. Follow any different or additional instructions in the product-specific notice.
- Contact a health care provider if someone may have become ill. FDA advises doing so to report symptoms and receive care.
If the package is missing or its lot information cannot be read, the reviewed current notice does not provide a universal way to identify an unknown bag. Do not decide by appearance alone; check the company’s notice or contact the named retailer or company for help with that package.

What the outbreak update means—and what it does not
FDA says CDC declared the E. coli O145:H28 frozen-blueberry outbreak over on September 21, 2026. FDA reports 17 illnesses, six hospitalizations, and no deaths; these are outbreak totals, not an estimate of the risk from a particular bag. FDA also says the October 2 recall expansion followed traceback information linked to frozen blueberries that were the subject of the first recall.
