Apple describes every Grand Prix in its 2026 U.S. Apple TV coverage as having 5.1 surround sound, not Dolby Atmos. To check the specific stream you are watching, open its audio information and look for Apple TV’s Dolby Atmos icon. An Atmos setting on your Apple TV 4K—or an Atmos indicator on a receiver—does not by itself prove the F1 program has an Atmos mix.
What audio format does Apple specify for F1?
In its March 2026 announcement about U.S. Apple TV coverage, Apple says viewers will get “every Grand Prix with 5.1 surround sound.” The announcement does not advertise the live Grand Prix broadcast as Dolby Atmos. See Apple’s 2026 F1 coverage announcement.

That published description is the clearest guide to the main race broadcast, but Apple’s announcement does not list the format of every individual feed, language track, or playback route. Check the particular stream you have selected rather than assuming all F1 audio paths are identical.

How to check the F1 stream you are watching
- Start the event and select the feed. Check the actual F1 event, feed, and language track you plan to watch. If you switch feeds or tracks, check the audio information again; Apple has not published a format matrix for every option.
- Open the current program’s audio information. In playback controls, find the audio information for the program and look for the Dolby Atmos icon. Apple says supported Atmos content may display this icon. Its Apple TV 4K Dolby Atmos setup guide explains the content indicator.
- Check your receiver or soundbar as a second indicator. If your audio device displays the incoming format, inspect it too, but do not treat that display alone as proof of the source mix.
- Check Apple TV 4K’s audio configuration if needed. Go to Settings > Video and Audio > Audio Format. Available choices depend on connected equipment. This confirms what your setup can handle; it does not identify the format of the F1 program.
- Distinguish language from format. Apple’s F1 guide documents an Audio Track choice for broadcast language, not an Atmos switch. See Apple’s guide to watching F1 on Apple TV.
How to interpret the indicators

Apple explains that Continuous Audio Connection uses Dolby MAT to manage transitions between audio formats. With this setting on, older receivers might indicate an Atmos signal even though the original audio plays as intended. What to do if Atmos is missing
Atmos is missing only during F1
If the current F1 stream does not show the Atmos icon, that is consistent with Apple’s published description of every Grand Prix as 5.1 surround sound. It is not, on its own, evidence that your Apple TV or speakers are faulty. Apple does not specify the audio format of every individual feed or language track, so verify the stream currently selected.
Atmos is missing from other content that supports it
Check the whole playback chain: Apple TV 4K, television, audio device, and their connections. Apple lists an Atmos-capable television, an Atmos soundbar with a compatible television, an Atmos-enabled AV receiver, or one or two HomePod speakers as possible setups; HomePod mini does not support Atmos. Buying an Atmos soundbar, receiver, or HDMI cable will not turn a 5.1 F1 mix into Atmos. The equipment can reproduce compatible Atmos content, but Apple’s published F1 announcement specifies 5.1 surround sound for every Grand Prix.
