For a U.S. federal agency, start with Anthropic’s Trust Center and contact its Public Sector team at [email protected] to confirm eligibility, service boundaries, onboarding, and current terms. Anthropic describes Claude for Government (C4G) as a FedRAMP High authorized SaaS offering and announced federal purchasing through the GSA Schedule. Agencies outside the federal scope should ask Anthropic directly rather than assume they qualify.

What is Claude for Government?

Anthropic describes Claude for Government (C4G) as a FedRAMP High authorized software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering designed for U.S. federal agencies and regulated environments. The Trust Center says organizations whose requirements align with FedRAMP High or NIST 800-53 High can use it, and characterizes C4G as having core capabilities similar to Claude for Enterprise with additional security measures. See Anthropic’s Trust Center for its current product and authorization information.

Anthropic’s August 12, 2025 announcement said it expanded access to Claude for Enterprise and Claude for Government across the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, including federal civilian executive agencies. It directed leadership at eligible organizations to contact the Public Sector team. Read Anthropic’s announcement about expanded access across all three branches.

How to check whether your agency can get access

  1. Define the agency and workload. Record your organization’s jurisdiction, the data sensitivity involved, and the security baseline it must meet. The answer may differ depending on whether you need C4G SaaS or access to Claude through a separate cloud service.
  2. Review the C4G authorization information. Anthropic’s Trust Center says the C4G FedRAMP High authorization package is accessible through the Palantir Federal Cloud Service (PFCS) authorization record in the FedRAMP Marketplace. Its FAQ says to search the Marketplace for “Palantir,” open “Palantir Federal Cloud Service (PFCS) – FedRAMP Cloud,” and review the services section for Claude for Government. This explains where the record is listed; it does not mean every agency must procure through Palantir.
  3. Ask Anthropic Public Sector to confirm eligibility. Email [email protected]. Anthropic’s August 12, 2025 access announcement specifically directs department or agency leadership at eligible organizations to contact the team. Include your jurisdiction and workload needs, and ask about the service boundary, onboarding requirements, and current terms.
  4. Confirm the procurement route and terms. Anthropic announced on August 5, 2025 that U.S. federal departments and agencies could purchase Claude through the GSA Schedule, with pre-negotiated pricing and terms intended to comply with federal acquisition regulations. The announcement is not a complete, current price list. Validate the relevant schedule details and contracting steps through official acquisition channels. See Anthropic’s GSA Schedule announcement.

Check the hosted service, not just the Claude model

FedRAMP and similar frameworks apply to cloud services—such as infrastructure, platform, and SaaS offerings—not to an AI model in isolation. Anthropic lists C4G as its SaaS offering and describes access through Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud Vertex AI as partner-hosted routes. Identify the actual service and authorization boundary your agency would use; saying only that “Claude is FedRAMP approved” can blur important differences. Consult the Anthropic Trust Center for its current descriptions.

Claude for Government Anthropic describes C4G as FedRAMP High authorized SaaS for U.S. federal agencies and regulated environments with requirements aligned to FedRAMP High or NIST 800-53 High. Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud Anthropic’s June 11, 2025 announcement described Claude models through Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud for FedRAMP High and DoD Impact Level 4 and 5 workloads, naming federal agency employees, defense contractors, and approved partners as users. Current model availability, workload authorization, geography, and customer eligibility. See Anthropic’s AWS GovCloud announcement.
Vertex AI in Google Cloud Assured Workloads Anthropic’s April 2, 2025 announcement described access for FedRAMP High and DoD IL2 workloads. Its setup sequence was to configure an Assured Workloads environment, access Claude in Vertex AI Model Garden, and use Vertex AI API endpoints. Current model coverage, workload authorization, geography, and customer eligibility. See Anthropic’s Vertex AI announcement.

These cloud-route details come from dated announcements, not a guarantee of present-day availability. Confirm the specific model, service, geography, workload level, and agency eligibility before relying on either route.

What if your organization is not a U.S. federal agency?

Anthropic’s reviewed pages do not establish a universal eligibility rule for state, local, territorial, tribal, or international agencies. The Trust Center describes C4G’s audience and security alignment, but that alone does not confirm that a particular non-federal organization can buy or use it. Ask Anthropic Public Sector about your jurisdiction, security requirements, and procurement authority before planning around access.

Questions to include in an availability inquiry

  • Is this agency and jurisdiction eligible for C4G or another government access route?
  • Which hosted service and authorization boundary would apply to the proposed workload?
  • Does that route support the agency’s data sensitivity and required security baseline?
  • Which models, regions, and workload levels are currently supported?
  • What onboarding, procurement, and contracting steps apply, and what are the current terms?
