Check AT&T’s outage portal first: open att.com/outages, sign in or enter the account or address information requested, and read the status for your specific service. If the outage is listed as active, request a one-time text alert by choosing Get text updates now. If no outage appears but your connection is still down, restart the AT&T gateway or modem, then contact AT&T if service does not return.
A storm recovery announcement for a region is not proof that your individual internet, home-phone or television service has been restored. AT&T reports network conditions by service and location, while damage to a particular line, equipment site or commercial power supply can continue to affect one address.

Use the outage portal for an address-level answer
The outage portal is AT&T’s primary self-service check for a storm-related interruption. It is more useful than a general news release because it evaluates the account or address you identify. Open https://www.att.com/outages/ and follow the prompts to sign in or provide the requested account information.
- Open the AT&T outage portal.
- Sign in with the AT&T account associated with the affected service, or enter the account or address details the page requests.
- Review the status shown for your internet, home phone or other AT&T service.
- Read any estimated-restoration or service-message details displayed for that outage.
If the page says the outage is still active, your service has not been confirmed as restored at the account level. If it says the outage is resolved, test the affected service at home before assuming every device is working. A portal result is the best first check, but a resolved regional event can still leave a damaged line, powered-off gateway or other local problem.

What the portal result means
| Portal result | What it establishes | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Outage detected or active | AT&T has associated a current interruption with the account or address information entered. | Request the current-outage text alert and wait for AT&T’s restoration message. Keep checking the portal if conditions change. |
| Restored, resolved or no longer showing an outage | AT&T is not reporting an active outage for the service details checked. | Test the gateway, Wi-Fi and wired connection. If service remains unavailable, restart the gateway or modem and contact AT&T. |
| No outage information available | The portal has not identified a current event for the details supplied; it is not a guarantee that your line works. | Verify the account or address, troubleshoot locally and ask AT&T to investigate if the failure continues. |
Outage records are service-specific. A wireless status can be normal while fixed home internet or home phone service is still interrupted, particularly after physical storm damage or a commercial-power failure.
Check each affected service separately
“Service restored” can mean different things in a bundled AT&T account. Check the service that actually failed rather than relying on a single working device. For example, a mobile phone may have coverage while home internet is still down; internet may return while an internet-dependent home-phone or television service is still starting up. Enter the account details for the affected location and read the wording of the status message.
After the portal changes to resolved, make a simple test of the original symptom. For internet, connect a device near the gateway and open more than one webpage. If practical, compare Wi-Fi with a wired connection. For home phone, place a call after the gateway has fully restarted. For television or another service that uses the internet, check the service itself rather than assuming that a connected phone proves it works. These tests do not replace AT&T’s status record; they confirm whether the service is usable in your home.

Turn on a text alert for the current outage
When the outage appears in the portal, sign in at att.com/outages and select Get text updates now. AT&T says this notification is for the outage currently affecting you. Its support guidance states: “You’ll only get alerts for this outage, not future ones.” You therefore need to request a new alert if another outage occurs later.
What the alert can and cannot tell you
- The message is intended to tell you when the identified outage is over.
- It is tied to the current outage and does not subscribe you automatically to every future storm event.
- Receiving a regional recovery announcement or seeing a network-status improvement is not the same as receiving the account-specific restoration text.
- If you never receive the message, check the portal again and confirm that the mobile number and account information are correct.
For wireline customers, AT&T’s storm guidance also directs customers to the outage portal for one-time restoration texts. Treat the text as a useful account-level signal, then verify by opening a web page, placing a call if home phone is affected, or checking the service that was unavailable.
Check Smart Home Manager as a second status path
AT&T identifies Smart Home Manager as another way to check for outages. Use it when you can access the AT&T account but the website is difficult to load, or when you want a view of the home network and gateway. The outage portal remains the clearest route for the official current-outage alert, while Smart Home Manager can help distinguish an AT&T event from a problem limited to the home network.
When this option is useful
- You can sign in to the AT&T account but need an in-app check.
- You want to see whether the gateway is communicating with AT&T.
- The portal reports no outage and you need to continue with local network troubleshooting.
App availability and the information shown can vary by AT&T service and account. Do not infer that a normal gateway display proves that every upstream line has been repaired; use the outage portal or an AT&T representative for the service-status decision.

If the website or app will not load
A storm can leave your home internet unavailable while your mobile data still works, or it can make a web page temporarily difficult to reach. Try the outage portal from another connection, such as a mobile device, if one is available. The official alternatives are the myAT&T app and AT&T’s phone support number. A page that fails to load from the affected home network does not itself show whether AT&T has restored the line.
Keep the address and account information available when switching between channels. If you are checking a different location from the one affected, make sure you select the correct account or address; otherwise the status may describe a different service.
If no outage is listed, restart the gateway or modem
AT&T’s troubleshooting instruction for a missing outage listing is to restart the gateway or modem. This is a diagnostic step, not confirmation that the storm damage has been repaired.
- Locate the AT&T gateway or modem that supplies the affected service.
- Disconnect its power. If the unit has a power switch, turn it off; otherwise unplug the power cable.
- Wait at least 20 seconds before reconnecting it.
- Restore power and allow the equipment to complete its startup and connection process.
- Wait up to five minutes before deciding whether the restart worked.
- Test the connection close to the gateway, then test the device or room that originally failed.
During the restart, internet-dependent phone or television service may also be unavailable. Avoid repeatedly unplugging the equipment during the five-minute reconnection period. If the gateway returns to normal but one device still cannot connect, restart that device and check its Wi-Fi setting; if all devices remain offline, move to AT&T support rather than repeating the same restart.
How to interpret the restart
| Result after five minutes | Likely interpretation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Internet and other services work | The gateway needed to re-establish its connection after the outage or power interruption. | Confirm that the services you use most are working, then keep the outage-alert information for the next event. |
| Gateway appears normal but no devices connect | The AT&T connection may be back while a Wi-Fi, device or home-network problem remains. | Test another device and, if possible, a wired connection; use Smart Home Manager or AT&T support for further diagnosis. |
| Gateway cannot reconnect or all services remain down | The outage may still affect the address, or equipment, line or power damage may require AT&T action. | Check the portal again and contact AT&T through an official support channel. |
Contact AT&T when the portal and restart do not resolve it
AT&T lists three support routes for an unresolved service problem: att.com, the myAT&T app and 800-288-2020. Have the affected service, account information, outage time and the result of the 20-second restart ready. Tell the representative whether the portal showed an active outage, a resolved event or no outage at all.
What to report
- The service and location affected: home internet, home phone, television service that depends on the internet, or another AT&T product.
- The exact portal result and the time you checked it.
- Whether you requested the current-outage text update and received it.
- Whether the gateway or modem restarted successfully after being disconnected for 20 seconds.
- Whether the failure affects every device or only one device, room or connection type.
- Any visible power or equipment issue that began during the storm.
Do not treat a general storm-recovery report, a successful restart, or a normal wireless signal as proof that a specific fixed-service line has been restored. Ask AT&T to check the account or address when the local symptoms continue.
Why a storm announcement may not match your home service
Storm communications summarize broad areas and can combine wireless and wireline conditions. AT&T’s storm page, “AT&T Prepares for Isaias”, was updated October 11, 2026, at 1:50 p.m. CT. It reported restoration progress in the hardest-hit areas had improved 80% over the preceding 24 hours. AT&T also said its wireless network was operating at more than 99% of normal in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi, and operating normally in Georgia and Louisiana.

Those are dated AT&T company statements, not independent measurements or a live reading for an individual address. The same update warned: “Some customers in affected areas may still be experiencing home phone and internet service interruptions due to storm damage and commercial power outages.” A state-level wireless figure can therefore coexist with an internet outage at one home.

Use the storm page for context, but use the outage portal, an alert and a direct service test to decide whether your own connection is back.
A practical decision path after a storm
Follow this sequence so that each check answers a different question instead of repeating the same step.
- Check the account-level status. Open the outage portal and enter the affected account or address.
- If an outage is active, request the alert. Choose Get text updates now for the current event.
- Wait for the restoration message or a changed portal status. A regional announcement alone is not enough.
- Test the service. Try more than one device and, where practical, both Wi-Fi and a wired connection.
- If no outage is shown or the portal says resolved, restart the gateway. Disconnect power for 20 seconds and allow up to five minutes for reconnection.
- Separate an in-home problem from an AT&T problem. If only one device fails, investigate that device or Wi-Fi path; if every device fails, continue with AT&T.
- Escalate through att.com, myAT&T or 800-288-2020. Give AT&T the portal result and the troubleshooting steps already completed.
How long should restoration take?
The official information does not provide a universal restoration deadline for storm-damaged service. Repair time depends on the affected facility, physical access, commercial power and the service type. AT&T’s outage portal is the place to check the current account or address status; a storm page cannot supply a reliable appointment time for every customer.
If the portal shows an active outage, continue using the current-outage alert and recheck the status when necessary. If it shows no outage but the connection remains down, report the mismatch rather than assuming the outage has ended. This gives AT&T a chance to identify a localized line or equipment problem that a broad storm notice does not show.
Common mistakes that produce a false “restored” conclusion
- Relying on a state-wide wireless update. Wireless recovery figures do not establish fixed internet or home-phone recovery.
- Assuming a missing portal outage means the line works. The absence of an event can mean troubleshooting or account verification is needed.
- Restarting once and stopping immediately. AT&T says reconnection can take up to five minutes after power is restored.
- Expecting future alerts automatically. The text option covers the current outage only.
- Testing only one device. A single failed phone, computer or television can have its own network or hardware problem.
- Ignoring commercial power conditions. AT&T specifically attributes continuing home phone and internet interruptions in affected areas to storm damage and commercial power outages.
- Calling before collecting the status details. Recording the portal result, alert status and restart outcome makes escalation more precise.
The shortest reliable answer
Open AT&T’s outage portal and check the account or address. If the outage is active, select Get text updates now for a restoration message covering that outage. If no outage is listed, restart the gateway or modem by disconnecting power for 20 seconds and allow up to five minutes for it to reconnect. If the service still fails, contact AT&T through att.com, the myAT&T app or 800-288-2020. Only the account-level status and a successful test of your own service can confirm that your storm outage is actually over.
Frequently Asked Questions
How will I know if my AT&T internet outage is fixed?
Check the AT&T outage portal for the affected account or address. If the event is active, request “Get text updates now.” When AT&T reports the outage over, test your own gateway and more than one device; a regional recovery notice alone is not confirmation for your home.

What can I do if I’m not in an outage area?
Verify the account or address entered in the portal. If no outage is listed, restart the gateway or modem: disconnect power for at least 20 seconds, reconnect it and allow up to five minutes. If every device remains offline, contact AT&T through att.com, myAT&T or 800-288-2020.
Do AT&T outage texts cover future storms?
No. AT&T says the one-time alert applies only to the current outage. You must request a new alert for a later outage.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Does a normal AT&T wireless signal mean my home internet is restored?
No. Wireless and fixed home services can recover at different rates. AT&T’s October 11, 2026 update reported wireless operation above 99% of normal in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi while warning that some home phone and internet customers could still be affected by storm damage and commercial power outages.
What if the portal says the outage is resolved but my service is still down?
Test the gateway, Wi-Fi and, if practical, a wired connection. Restart the gateway for 20 seconds and wait up to five minutes. If the failure continues across devices, report the mismatch to AT&T and provide the portal result and restart outcome.
Is there a guaranteed AT&T storm-restoration deadline?
The official outage and storm information does not provide one universal deadline. Timing varies with damage, access, commercial power and service type, so use the account-level portal status rather than a general estimate.
Can Smart Home Manager confirm that AT&T repaired the line?
Smart Home Manager is another way to check outages and view the home network, but a normal gateway display does not prove that every upstream line is repaired. Use the outage portal and test the affected service.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

AT&T lists att.com, the myAT&T app and 800-288-2020. Have your account or address, affected service, portal result, text-alert status and gateway-restart result ready.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Use AT&T’s outage portal for the account or address, request the current-outage text alert, and verify recovery by testing your own service. If no outage appears, restart the gateway for 20 seconds and allow up to five minutes. Persistent failures should be reported through att.com, myAT&T or 800-288-2020.
