Read the offer terms before you build the order

Find the marketing message, email or page that supplied the code and open its specific Promotion Terms. Record the details that can disqualify an otherwise valid-looking order:

• Eligible products: Some codes apply to selected games, devices or other listed items rather than every product in the Store. Exclusions can include particular editions, bundles or already-discounted products.
• Market and geography: A code can be restricted to a country or other market. Your account, Store region and delivery destination need to be consistent with the offer’s scope.

What to do when the promo-code field is missing

A missing field usually indicates a checkout prerequisite or market mismatch, not that your gift card is invalid. Check these causes in order:

1. You are still on the cart page. Continue to Checkout; the control does not appear in the cart.
2. You are using guest checkout. Sign in to a Microsoft account and restart checkout if necessary.
3. Shipping or payment information is incomplete. Add or select the required address and payment option, then look again for “Add a promo code.”

Verify the dates and market

Use the promotion’s stated time zone when checking its start and end. Confirm that your Store region, account jurisdiction and shipping destination are within the specified geography. Microsoft’s terms expressly allow geographic limits.

Check one-time and combination limits

Unless an offer says otherwise, Microsoft’s general terms state that promotion codes are single-use, may be redeemed only once during the promotion period and do not apply to prior purchases. Can I use my Microsoft account balance and another payment method together?

Yes, when the checkout supports split payment and your Microsoft account balance does not cover the full eligible price. Microsoft says the account balance can be used first and a registered alternate payment method can cover the difference. Select the Microsoft account balance as the payment option, then choose the available card or other registered method for the remainder.

This payment arrangement answers only how the order is funded. It does not prove that a promotion code qualifies. Apply the code and verify the savings message before relying on the split payment. A code can be valid while the balance is insufficient, and a sufficient balance can pay for an order even when no promotion applies.

Gift-card balance restrictions that can affect the order

Microsoft’s gift-card terms add conditions separate from promotion eligibility:

• Currency and jurisdiction: Gift-card currency and account requirements must match the relevant market rules. Account balance cannot be converted to another currency.
• Participating Stores and eligible products: Balance is usable only at participating Stores and for products allowed by the account terms. Additional Store restrictions or exclusions may apply.
