An RTX 5070 label does not tell you how much system RAM or SSD storage a gaming laptop includes. To check whether a specific laptop is ready for your games, find its exact configuration, compare its installed system RAM with each game’s current recommended requirement, and add up the storage those games need—then leave room for Windows, other apps, saved files, and updates.
What the RTX 5070 specification tells you—and what it doesn’t
NVIDIA lists 8 GB of GDDR7 memory for the GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. That is dedicated graphics memory, often called VRAM; it is not the laptop’s system RAM and does not tell you the size of its SSD. NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series laptop specifications and the laptop maker’s configuration page describe different components.

System RAM is the memory Windows and your games use alongside other running programs. SSD capacity is the drive space available for Windows, applications, and game files. Check both separately rather than treating “8 GB” on a GPU specification as an answer to how much RAM the laptop has.
Find the exact laptop configuration
Check the model and SKU
Start with the full manufacturer, model name, and configuration or SKU—not just “RTX 5070 laptop.” A single laptop family can be sold with different memory and storage options, and those options may vary by region. Check the product listing, order details, or the manufacturer’s specifications for the exact unit.

Confirm installed RAM and SSD space
Look for system memory (usually listed in GB) and SSD capacity (also listed in GB or TB). In Windows, open Settings > System > About to see installed RAM. To check drive capacity and available space, open Settings > System > Storage or File Explorer and select This PC. The available-space figure matters for installing games now; the drive’s total capacity helps you judge whether your library will fit over time.
Manufacturer examples illustrate why the exact configuration matters. HP lists up to 32 GB of DDR5 RAM and up to a 1 TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD for its OMEN 16 2025 League of Legends edition. GIGABYTE lists up to 64 GB of DDR5 RAM and up to 4 TB of NVMe M.2 storage for its GAMING A18 GA83H, noting that storage capacity can differ by country and region. These are model-specific ceilings, not standard specifications for all RTX 5070 laptops.

Compare system RAM with the games you play
Use each game’s current recommended system-RAM requirement as your starting point. Recommended figures are a better target for a comfortable comparison than minimum requirements, but they do not account for every browser tab, chat app, launcher, or other program you may leave open.

For example, a laptop with 16 GB of system RAM meets the published recommended RAM figure for the first two games in this table, but that does not guarantee every workload will fit comfortably when other applications are running. The listed 12 GB recommendation for Black Ops 6 is a game requirement, not a statement that 12 GB is the ideal amount for every gaming laptop.
Work out whether your SSD has enough free space
Add the storage requirements for the games you plan to install at the same time. The three examples above total 348 GB of listed space: 150 GB + 70 GB + 128 GB. That is a planning total, not a promise that the games will occupy exactly that much in every current installation. Updates, other software, and Windows also need space, and Black Ops 6’s listing explicitly warns that mandatory updates may require more than its launch figure.

- Compare the total with the SSD’s free space, not only its advertised capacity.
- Leave additional room for Windows, applications, saves, and game updates rather than filling the drive to its limit.
- Recheck the current requirements before installation; game listings can change.
Check whether you can upgrade RAM or storage
Upgradeability depends on the exact laptop model and configuration. Check the manufacturer’s specifications or manual for whether RAM is replaceable, how many memory slots are available, and what type and capacity are supported. For an SSD, verify whether the laptop has an unused slot or requires replacing the existing drive, and confirm the supported form factor, interface, and capacity before buying a component.

A quick configuration check before you buy or install
- Record the laptop’s full model and SKU.
- Confirm its installed system RAM, SSD capacity, and current free space in the manufacturer’s specifications or Windows.
- For each intended game, check the current official or storefront system requirements and note recommended RAM and required storage.
- Compare the RAM figure with the game requirements, and add the listed storage needs for the games you want installed together.
- Keep extra SSD headroom for Windows, other apps, saves, and updates.
- If the configuration falls short, verify the exact model’s supported RAM or SSD upgrade options before choosing parts.
