How to Check Whether an Anker Charger or Power Bank Is Safe for Your Device

To check whether an Anker charger or power bank is suitable for your device, compare the device’s published charging input with the accessory’s output, supported charging protocol, port, and cable requirements. A higher wattage alone does not mean a compatible device will be forced to draw that much power. If you’re checking an Anker power bank, also compare its model number with Anker’s current recall notice and complete the serial-number or proof-of-purchase check if directed.

Is my Anker charger safe for my phone?

Start with the phone or other device—not the charger’s brand or connector shape. Find the exact device model and check its official manual or charging label for supported input voltage and current, charging standard, and any adapter or cable requirements. Then compare those details with the output information for the specific port on the Anker charger or power bank.

Anker’s support guidance gives this formula for calculating power: power (W) = voltage (V) × current (A). Its examples—15 V × 3 A = 45 W and 20 V × 3.25 A = 65 W—illustrate the calculation; they are not recommendations for every device. See Anker’s guidance on choosing a charger.

Do not treat “USB-C,” “Anker,” or a wattage figure as proof of compatibility. A USB-C plug describes the connector, not all the charging features the two products support. Check that the device and charger support a compatible charging protocol and output profile, and confirm the cable can support the intended rate.

Can I use a higher-wattage Anker charger?

For compatible USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) equipment that is functioning correctly, the device and charger negotiate power: the device can request the power it needs rather than automatically receiving the charger’s maximum output. USB-IF describes USB PD as a flexible power-delivery protocol over a cable. This is not a blanket assurance for damaged, nonstandard, or otherwise incompatible equipment. Read USB-IF’s USB Charger (USB Power Delivery) overview.

USB-IF’s 2021 overview says USB PD 3.1 enables up to 240 W using a full-featured USB Type-C cable and connector. That is a specification capability, not evidence that a particular Anker accessory, cable, or phone supports 240 W. The device’s own input specifications and the charger’s port-level output remain the practical limits to check.

How to check compatibility, step by step

  1. Identify the device. Use its exact model number to find the official manual or inspect its input label. Note supported voltage and current, charging standard, and stated adapter or cable requirements.
  2. Read the accessory’s specifications. Check the charger or power bank label and manual. Compare the output profiles for the port you plan to use with the device’s supported inputs; a product’s overall maximum may not describe every port or multi-port use.
  3. Check the protocol and cable. Confirm the device and accessory support a compatible charging protocol, and that the cable meets the requirements for the intended charging rate. USB-IF’s overview discusses cable requirements for higher-power USB-C use.
  4. Check the unit’s condition and recall status. For a power bank, find the model number printed on the unit. If it appears on Anker’s applicable recall page, follow that page’s serial-number or proof-of-purchase verification process.
  5. Use the official instructions for your region. If Anker confirms the unit is affected, stop using it and follow the current regional recall instructions, including any handling or disposal directions.

How do I check whether my Anker power bank is recalled?

Anker’s US page for its 2025 recall campaign lists models A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681, and A1689. Find the model number on the power bank and compare it with the models on Anker’s US recall page. If there is a match, use the verification process on that page: Anker directs owners to check the serial number or submit proof of purchase. A matching model number alone does not establish that an individual unit qualifies.

Anker also has a separate recall page concerning models A1642, A1647, and A1652 that describes a battery-related fire risk and asks owners to verify the serial number. Because campaign scope and instructions can differ, do not combine model lists or assume one notice settles eligibility for every unit. Check the currently applicable official notice for your region and follow its directions: Anker’s recall information for A1642/A1647/A1652. If Anker confirms your unit is affected, stop using it and follow the official instructions rather than improvising handling or disposal steps.

What to compare when choosing a charger or power bank

Check What to verify
Device requirements The device maker’s stated input voltage/current, charging standard, and adapter or cable requirements.
Port output The output profiles and maximum output for the particular port you will use, including whether output changes when multiple ports are used.
Protocol and cable Compatibility between the device and accessory’s charging protocol, plus a cable rated for the intended charging rate.
Unit and recall status The accessory’s condition and authenticity, and—if it is a power bank—whether its exact model and serial number meet an applicable recall notice’s criteria.

Without the device model and the specific charger or power-bank specifications, it is not possible to declare a particular pairing suitable. Check the device maker’s requirements and the accessory’s own manual before choosing or using a replacement.
