Review the Monitoring Dashboard, Administration Logs, Backup / Restore Logs, Replication Logs, Windows Event Logs or Linux host logs, and the time period before the suspected exposure. Unexpected administrator activity, restores, backup jobs, replication changes, or host events are investigation leads—not proof by themselves.
Do not treat an upgrade or reboot as evidence that an earlier intrusion did not occur. Ahsay’s October 2026 guidance distinguishes vulnerability patching from incident remediation: a patch can close the named flaws, but it cannot undo unauthorized activity that happened before the patch. Preserve the records and involve qualified incident-response professionals if compromise is plausible.

What a log review can—and cannot—tell you
AhsayCBS records are valuable for reconstructing what the application and its administrators did. They can show timing, account names, job activity, configuration changes, errors, and replication events that you can compare with maintenance tickets, backup schedules, and known administrator actions.

They are not a complete forensic test. The official Ahsay material does not publish a comprehensive list of indicators of compromise, a signature set that proves an AhsayCBS host was hacked, or a procedure that certifies a server as clean. Logs can be missing, rotated, altered, or unavailable for the period of interest. An absence of suspicious entries therefore does not establish that the server was never compromised.

Use the review as triage and evidence collection. If the evidence suggests unauthorized access, coordinate containment, preservation, eradication, and recovery with qualified cybersecurity professionals rather than relying on routine patching.
Prepare before opening the console
Define the investigation window
Write down when the concern began and what prompted it: an alert, an unexplained configuration change, a failed backup, an unusual restore, a ransom note, or another symptom. Start the review before the suspected exposure, not only at the moment the symptom appeared. Record the AhsayCBS version, operating system, server time zone, relevant network changes, recent administrator changes, and the dates of security updates.
Ahsay’s troubleshooting guidance asks administrators escalating a server issue to provide the estimated start time, recent application or host changes, AhsayCBS logs, and operating-system logs. The same details make a security review more useful. Keep the original files intact and work from copies whenever your incident-response process permits.
Preserve evidence safely
- Record who collected each log, when it was collected, the server’s clock and time zone, and the original file location.
- Export or download reports without deleting records from the AhsayCBS console.
- Keep the suspected server available for responders; avoid unnecessary cleanup, log rotation, software removal, or configuration changes before evidence is preserved.
- Store copies in an access-controlled location and follow your organization’s retention and chain-of-custody process.
If the server is actively being misused, responders may direct you to isolate it from the network. Do not improvise destructive actions such as wiping disks or restoring over the original host when a forensic investigation may be needed.
Review AhsayCBS Monitoring records
1. Monitoring > Dashboard
Open Monitoring > Dashboard and review the To Dos and health/activity views for the investigation window. Ahsay documents this area as a place to see system errors and warnings, health conditions, real-time activity, and To Dos such as missed or failed backups, system errors, replication errors, API errors, and email errors.

Record the timestamp, message, affected service or job, account, and any linked object for each item that is outside normal operations. Then compare it with your change calendar and backup schedule. For example, a failed replication task during a documented maintenance window may be expected; the same event at an unusual time, followed by an unplanned configuration change, deserves closer review.
A dashboard error is an operational signal, not a confirmed intrusion indicator. Use it to locate related administration, backup, replication, and host records.
2. Monitoring > Administration Logs
In Monitoring > Administration Logs, examine the three views Ahsay documents:
- Message History: announcements and alerts recorded by the system.
- Activities Log: system and user activities.
- Audit Trails: activity associated with selected users or groups.
Filter by the period you defined and by relevant user, group, or activity type. Look for changes that you cannot match to an authorized administrator or ticket: account and permission changes, altered policies, changed destinations, modified retention settings, or activity outside the administrator’s normal working pattern. Note the exact time and user shown, then validate the event against identity-provider records, maintenance records, and the person responsible for the change.
Do not assume that a familiar account name proves the action was legitimate. An attacker using a stolen administrator credential can generate an entry that looks like an ordinary user action. Conversely, an unfamiliar display name may be a legitimate service or emergency account. The audit record is a lead to corroborate, not a verdict.

3. Monitoring > Backup / Restore Logs
Open Monitoring > Backup / Restore Logs and inspect the available categories:
- Backup jobs
- Restored jobs
- Restore drill jobs
- Backup errors
- Backup-set logs
- Backup activities
Compare each job’s time, account, backup set, source, destination, result, and volume of data with the expected schedule and operational records. Pay particular attention to restores that no one requested, backup jobs launched outside maintenance windows, newly created or altered backup sets, and repeated failures followed by successful activity that no operator can explain.
Use the console’s report-download capability when a report contains details needed for correlation. Preserve the downloaded report with its collection time and the original log context. A restore drill can be legitimate, so confirm it against the test plan rather than labeling every unexpected restore a compromise.
4. Monitoring > Replication Logs
In Monitoring > Replication Logs, review both sending and receiving jobs and the associated activities. Ahsay’s documentation includes events such as receiver creation, replication-settings changes, and retention-policy jobs.
Verify every destination and configuration change against an approved change record. An unfamiliar receiver, an altered retention policy, or replication to a destination that the organization does not own can expose data or undermine recovery, but the log entry still needs host, network, and administrator corroboration. Capture the previous and current settings where the console provides them.

Correlate the application records with the operating system
Windows installations
When the relevant AhsayCBS service is enabled, Ahsay says its system errors, warnings, and information messages are also written to Windows Event Logs. Open Event Viewer and collect the relevant application, service, security, and system records for the same time window. Match event times to AhsayCBS administration, job, and replication entries, accounting for the server’s time zone and any clock drift.
Ahsay’s troubleshooting guidance identifies the Windows application-log directory as C:Program FilesAhsayCBSlogs. Preserve the files from that directory together with exported Event Viewer records and other host-security records required by your incident-response process.
Linux installations
For Linux installations, Ahsay identifies the application-log directory as /usr/local/cbs/logs. Collect the AhsayCBS files and the operating-system records that cover authentication, privilege use, service changes, scheduled tasks, network access, and storage activity, using your organization’s approved collection procedure.
Do not copy only the application directory. Host logs can reveal access or persistence that is not visible in the AhsayCBS console, while AhsayCBS logs provide the application context needed to understand a host event.

Normalize time and identity
Before correlating records, confirm the server’s time zone, clock status, and the time zone used by your log platform. Convert timestamps consistently and retain the original value. Normalize usernames, service accounts, IP addresses, hostnames, and job identifiers so the same actor or task can be followed across AhsayCBS, Event Viewer, Linux logs, identity systems, firewalls, and backup infrastructure.

How to assess suspicious patterns
The following patterns are practical leads derived from the records Ahsay documents. They are not vendor-defined proof of compromise; validate each one against authorized activity and host evidence.
| Observed pattern | Questions to validate it | Evidence to preserve |
|---|---|---|
| Unexplained administrator or audit activity | Was the account authorized? Was there a ticket, maintenance window, or emergency approval? Do identity logs show a normal sign-in location and device? | Administration Log entry, account and group details, identity-provider records, change ticket, host security events |
| Unexpected backup, restore, or restore-drill job | Does it match the documented schedule, operator, source, destination, and data volume? Was sensitive data restored somewhere unusual? | Backup / Restore report, backup-set details, destination metadata, operator records, related host events |
| New or changed replication receiver | Is the receiver owned and approved? Who created or modified it, and did retention settings change at the same time? | Sending and receiving logs, receiver configuration, retention-policy activity, network and authentication records |
| Cluster of dashboard errors and service events | Did the errors begin after a deployment, outage, credential change, or reboot? Do host logs show service stoppage, privilege use, or network activity? | Dashboard entries, AhsayCBS logs, Event Viewer or Linux records, deployment and maintenance timeline |
| Activity outside the organization’s normal hours | Is there an approved overnight job or on-call change? Does the account, source host, and job type fit that explanation? | Exact timestamps, user and source details, schedule, on-call record, related application and host events |
Build a timeline rather than judging isolated messages. A sequence such as an account change, a new replication receiver, an unexpected restore, and host-level authentication events is more actionable than any one entry. Have the system owner and responders test competing explanations, including routine maintenance, failed automation, clock errors, and credential misuse.
Current Ahsay vulnerability guidance in October 2026
Two Ahsay announcements published in October 2026 must be read together. The later announcement changes the patch direction, while the earlier clarification explains why patching does not resolve a prior compromise.
| Date and document | What it says | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| August 4, 2026 release, discussed in Ahsay’s October 9 clarification | Ahsay says CVE-2026-105133 and CVE-2026-105134 were addressed in AhsayCBS v10.3.4.0 and that servers upgraded to that release were no longer affected by those vulnerabilities. | Verify the installed version and the scope of the advisory. Do not treat reaching this version as proof that no earlier intrusion occurred. |
| October 9, 2026 clarification | Ahsay states that if a backup server was compromised before upgrading to v10.3.4.0, the upgrade itself would not resolve issues arising from that compromise. It recommends qualified cybersecurity professionals for investigation and remediation. | Preserve evidence and investigate suspected pre-upgrade activity instead of relying on the upgrade alone. |
| October 10, 2026 critical security announcement | Ahsay says the earlier v10.3.4.0 patch did not fully address the two vulnerabilities and directs partners running affected v10 versions to apply hotfix v10.3.4.45 and reboot. Access requires a valid partner-portal login. | Confirm the affected version and the current vendor instruction for the specific installation before changing it. Follow the required reboot procedure after applying the applicable hotfix. |
The October 10 announcement is version-specific and the hotfix is distributed through the partner portal. Check the current Ahsay advisory and applicability to your installation before patching. If compromise may have happened before the update, coordinate the update with responders so evidence preservation and containment are not undermined.
What to do when the evidence suggests compromise
- Escalate internally. Notify the incident-response lead, system owner, security team, and any legal or compliance contacts required by your organization.
- Preserve the record set. Secure copies of AhsayCBS logs, exported reports, Windows Event Logs or Linux host logs, identity records, firewall data, configuration snapshots, and the investigation timeline.
- Coordinate containment. Qualified responders should decide whether to isolate the server, disable affected credentials, block suspicious destinations, or move backup operations to a trusted system. Avoid actions that destroy evidence.
- Determine scope. Establish which accounts, backup sets, destinations, restores, replicas, and host resources may have been accessed or changed. Review the period before the first visible anomaly.
- Remediate and recover. Apply the vendor-directed fix, rebuild or restore systems when responders determine that trust is lost, rotate credentials and keys as appropriate, and validate backup integrity before returning the service to production.
- Document the decision. Record why containment, patching, rebuilding, or recovery steps were taken and which evidence supports the conclusion.
Ahsay’s October 9 clarification specifically recommends qualified cybersecurity professionals when a server may have been compromised before upgrading. A service provider should be selected through your organization’s normal incident-response process; the cited guidance does not identify a particular company or affiliate.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes that weaken an investigation
- Checking only the dashboard: dashboard views summarize operational health; they do not replace administration, job, replication, and host records.
- Looking only after the alert: attackers or unauthorized users may have acted earlier, so include a period before the first symptom.
- Calling an error an intrusion: outages, bad schedules, expired credentials, and failed automation can produce errors. Correlate before concluding.
- Assuming a familiar account is safe: a legitimate credential can be stolen or misused. Validate source, time, device, and authorization.
- Rotating logs or rebooting first: routine cleanup can destroy the evidence needed to determine what happened. Coordinate disruptive steps with responders.
- Treating the patch as remediation: patching addresses the vulnerability named by the vendor; it does not remove persistence, unauthorized changes, copied data, or tampered backups from an earlier compromise.
- Overlooking replication: an attacker who changes receivers or retention settings may affect both confidentiality and the ability to recover.
- Failing to verify time zones: inconsistent clocks can make unrelated events appear connected or hide a real sequence.
Investigation checklist
- Record the trigger, suspected exposure date, AhsayCBS version, operating system, time zone, and update history.
- Preserve original AhsayCBS and host logs before cleanup or rotation.
- Review Monitoring > Dashboard, including To Dos, health, activity, and errors.
- Review Monitoring > Administration Logs: Message History, Activities Log, and Audit Trails.
- Review Monitoring > Backup / Restore Logs, including jobs, restores, drills, errors, backup sets, and activities.
- Review Monitoring > Replication Logs for sending, receiving, receiver creation, settings, and retention-policy activity.
- Collect Windows Event Logs or Linux host records for the same time window.
- Compare every anomaly with administrator actions, change records, schedules, identity logs, and network evidence.
- Download and preserve reports needed to explain unusual jobs or configuration changes.
- Escalate unexplained activity to qualified incident responders; do not infer that a quiet console proves the host is clean.
- Verify the current Ahsay advisory and applicable fix for the installed version, including the October 2026 v10.3.4.45 hotfix direction where applicable.
