To determine whether an AhsayCBS deployment is reachable from the public internet, test its public hostname or IP address from a network outside the organization, using the ports that deployment actually listens on. Then identify the service behind every responding port and review the firewall, NAT, reverse-proxy, host, and container configuration that made it reachable.
Ahsay’s v9 guidance identifies TCP 80 and 443 as the usual public-facing ports for incoming backup and restore traffic and web-interface access, and recommends exposing only those two ports publicly. The Administration Panel is a separate security question: Ahsay recommends keeping it on the local-area network or restricting it to approved source IP addresses.

What an internet-exposure check can—and cannot—prove
An external connectivity test answers a narrow question: can a device on the test network establish a connection to a particular public endpoint and port at that moment? A successful connection means that something is reachable. It does not, by itself, prove that the service is AhsayCBS, that a login page is present, or that an administrator can use the console.
Recommended Free Tools
Interpret the result in layers:
- Network reachability: packets from the test network reach the public IP and a service responds on the tested port.
- Service identity: banners, TLS certificates, HTTP responses, or reverse-proxy behavior indicate what application is actually answering.
- Authorization: authentication and source-IP rules determine what a connected user can do.
- Intent: the organization’s design determines whether that reachability is required or excessive.
A port can be open because of a reverse proxy, another web application, a management service, or a container mapping. Treat “open” as a finding to identify, not as proof that AhsayCBS administration is exposed.

Which AhsayCBS ports should you check?
Ahsay’s v9 Network and Firewall Settings documentation, dated October 13, 2025, lists TCP 80 and TCP 443 for incoming backup and restore traffic and web-interface access. Its explicit recommendation is to expose only TCP 80 and 443 publicly. Other ports in Ahsay’s operational tables support functions such as Run on Server, port mapping, mount, and NFS; their presence in an operational table does not make them internet-facing requirements.
AhsayCBS connectors are configurable. The v9 System Settings documentation describes moving connectors away from the defaults, using 8080 and 8443 as examples. A test limited to 80 and 443 can therefore miss a deliberately relocated service.

| TCP 80 | Check when the deployment uses the documented HTTP connector or redirects HTTP to HTTPS. | A response shows that something accepts HTTP connections at the public endpoint. Identify whether it is AhsayCBS, a proxy, or another service. |
| TCP 443 | Check when the deployment uses the documented HTTPS connector. | A response shows that something accepts TLS connections. Inspect the certificate and HTTP behavior without assuming the administration panel is available. |
| Configured alternatives such as TCP 8080 or 8443 | Check these when the administrator has moved AhsayCBS connectors from 80 and 443. | A response may indicate the relocated AhsayCBS connector or an unrelated application. Verify the service identity. |
| Other Ahsay operational ports | Do not expose or scan them automatically merely because they appear in an Ahsay table. Confirm the architecture and required internal flows first. | Any public response needs a documented business purpose and service identification. |
The exact list for a particular installation comes from its connector configuration and network design, not from a generic default list. Record those configured ports before deciding that a check is complete.
Step 1: Establish the public endpoint you are authorized to test
Confirm the hostname and address
Obtain the approved public hostname and public IP address for the specific AhsayCBS deployment. If the hostname resolves to more than one address, record every address that the organization intends to serve. A DNS record may point to a reverse proxy, load balancer, or firewall rather than directly to the AhsayCBS host.
Do not substitute an internal name or private address. A test from the same LAN can succeed through an internal route even when the service is not available from the internet, while a split-DNS design can make the same hostname resolve differently inside and outside the organization.
Determine whether a proxy or forwarding layer is involved
Ask which public endpoint forwards traffic to AhsayCBS and whether TLS terminates at a reverse proxy. The external address, proxy listener, NAT rule, and AhsayCBS host may all use different addresses or ports. The exposure question concerns the path a public user can reach, so document each layer rather than testing only the server’s internal address.
Choose an external vantage point
Run the check from a network that is not inside the organization’s trusted perimeter. An authorized remote host or a separate internet connection can work. A mobile connection may be useful for a quick confirmation, but it is still only one source network; source-IP allow-lists can make one vantage point succeed while another is denied.
Step 2: Test the expected and configured ports
Use a modest connectivity check against the documented endpoint and the ports confirmed in the previous step. The following examples illustrate the type of check; replace the host value with the authorized public hostname or address and use only approved targets.

Check TCP reachability
From a Unix-like system, a TCP connection test can be performed with:
nc -vz your.public.hostname 80
nc -vz your.public.hostname 443
nc -vz your.public.hostname 8080
nc -vz your.public.hostname 8443
Run the alternative-port checks only when those ports are configured or specifically authorized. A successful result means that a TCP listener answered from that source network. A timeout can indicate filtering, a routing problem, an inactive service, or a source-IP restriction. A connection refusal usually means that the host was reachable but no permitted listener accepted the connection, although firewalls can also generate similar behavior.

Use a Windows connectivity test when appropriate
On a Windows assessment host, the equivalent basic check is:
Test-NetConnection your.public.hostname -Port 80
Test-NetConnection your.public.hostname -Port 443
Repeat the command for any documented alternative connector ports. Save the reported remote address and the TcpTestSucceeded value with the test time and source network.
Check HTTP and HTTPS behavior
For a web response, request headers without treating the response as proof of application identity:
curl -I http://your.public.hostname/
curl -I https://your.public.hostname/
A redirect from HTTP to HTTPS still confirms that the HTTP listener is reachable. A generic proxy response, a corporate access page, or a different application means the public endpoint is responding but does not establish that AhsayCBS is behind it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhen TLS is involved, note certificate subject, issuer, and hostname coverage. Ahsay’s documentation says its supplied certificate is a dummy certificate for testing and evaluation, not production, and recommends obtaining a trusted certificate for production. Certificate quality is an important TLS configuration issue, but it does not determine whether a port is reachable.
Step 3: Identify what answered
For each responding port, record the endpoint, protocol, port, response status, and the evidence used to identify the service. Useful evidence can include an HTTP title, a redirect destination, a TLS certificate, or a known reverse-proxy header. Do not rely on a port number alone: AhsayCBS may be moved to a non-default connector, and another product can listen on a customary Ahsay port.
| Observed result | Correct interpretation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| No response on a tested port | The service was not reachable from that test network at that time. | Check alternate public addresses, configured ports, DNS, source-IP rules, and the test path before declaring the service inaccessible everywhere. |
| TCP connection succeeds | Something is reachable on that port from the test network. | Identify the service and decide whether the reachability is intentional. |
| HTTP or HTTPS service responds | A web listener or proxy is reachable. | Determine whether it forwards to AhsayCBS or serves another application. |
| AhsayCBS web service is identified | The Ahsay web or backup-facing service is publicly reachable at that endpoint. | Compare the result with the intended design and separately test administration-console restrictions. |
| Administration interface is available publicly | Management access is not limited to the intended trusted networks or source ranges. | Treat it as a configuration issue, restrict access, and retest from both an approved and an unapproved source. |
A “no response” result is not proof that no exposure exists. Alternate IP addresses, IPv6, another DNS record, an untested connector port, or an allow-list that includes a different source can produce a different result. Conversely, a responding port is not proof of a vulnerability; it establishes reachability that must be evaluated against the service and access policy.

Step 4: Verify the Administration Panel is not public
Ahsay distinguishes the web-facing backup and restore service from administrative access. Its best-practices guidance states that, for security reasons, the Administration Panel should be hidden from public access and exposed only to the local-area network. Where LAN-only reachability is not practical, Ahsay’s documentation supports restricting access by approved IP addresses.
Test from both sides of the policy
- From an approved management network, connect to the documented administration endpoint and confirm that authorized administrators can still reach it.
- From an external network that is not on the approved list, repeat the connection attempt.
- Record whether the external request is blocked, rejected by the perimeter, denied by the proxy, or presented with an administrative login page.
- Do not attempt password guessing or bypass testing as part of this basic check.
A publicly visible login page is still public exposure even if authentication is enabled. The desired result is that unauthorized sources cannot reach the panel at all, or are stopped by a documented source-IP policy before the management interface is served.
Review the documented IP restriction setting
Ahsay’s v9 System Settings documentation gives the path System Settings > Advanced > Runtime Options > IP Allowed. Review the entries for the administration service and confirm that they contain only the organization’s approved management ranges. Check whether the rule expects individual addresses, CIDR ranges, or another format in the installed version before editing it.
Keep an emergency access path documented before tightening the list. A mistaken allow-list can lock out every administrator, particularly when remote staff use changing addresses or when IPv4 and IPv6 policies differ.
Step 5: Trace the network controls that create exposure
Perimeter firewall and NAT
Inspect inbound rules for the public IP and each tested port. Confirm the destination address, translated port, source restrictions, schedule, and rule order. A broad “any source” rule for 80, 443, 8080, or 8443 may expose more than intended, while a rule limited to known backup clients may be deliberate.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Review port forwarding separately from firewall policy. A port can be allowed at the perimeter but forwarded to the wrong host, or correctly forwarded while a host firewall blocks it. Record the complete path from public address to destination rather than changing rules based only on the external symptom.
Reverse proxy or load balancer
Inspect listener ports, backend routes, host-name matching, TLS termination, and any access-control policy on the proxy. A proxy may answer on 443 while forwarding only selected paths to AhsayCBS. It may also expose a management route accidentally or return its own error page when the backend is unavailable.
Check whether the proxy forwards the original client address. If Ahsay’s IP restriction feature receives only the proxy’s address, an allow-list can behave differently from what administrators expect. Coordinate proxy and Ahsay rules so the source identity used for authorization is trustworthy and documented.
Host firewall
On the AhsayCBS host, inspect local firewall rules for the listening ports and the permitted source ranges. A host-level rule can narrow access after NAT, but it should not be treated as a substitute for a correctly restricted perimeter. Confirm that the host is not listening on an unintended interface or exposing an administrative connector on a second address.

Docker publishing
Container deployments require checking both Docker’s published ports and the surrounding firewall and NAT path. Ahsay’s v9 installation guide shows Docker examples that publish container ports 80 and 443 to host ports with -p mappings, and notes that AhsayCBS can be accessed through the server hostname.
Inspect the running container and its published-port column, then compare those mappings with the host firewall and perimeter rules. A mapping such as host port 443 to a container’s port 443 can make the service reachable even when the application itself was not assigned a separate public address. Conversely, a container listener without a perimeter route may remain internal.
docker ps --format 'table {{.Names}} {{.Ports}}'
Use the organization’s approved Docker or orchestration procedure to change mappings. After a change, repeat the external test; do not assume that editing a compose file changed an already-running container.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Step 6: Compare the result with the intended design
Document the intended exposure before deciding that a finding is a defect. A typical design may require public access to the backup and restore web service while reserving administration for a LAN, VPN, or fixed management addresses. Another design may place Ahsay behind a reverse proxy and permit only a subset of source networks.

What to change when exposure is broader than intended
Limit public listeners to the required service
Start with the perimeter firewall and NAT rules. Remove public forwarding for ports that the approved design does not require, and restrict retained rules to the intended source ranges where feasible. Ahsay’s v9 recommendation is to expose only TCP 80 and 443 publicly for its documented incoming and web-interface use; do not open every operational port listed in an internal configuration table.
Keep administration on the LAN or approved IP ranges
Move management access behind the local network or another controlled management path. If source-IP restrictions are required, configure them under System Settings > Advanced > Runtime Options > IP Allowed, preserve an authorized recovery path, and test an approved source and a denied external source.
Correct proxy and container mappings
Remove unintended proxy routes and Docker host-port publications, then restart or redeploy through the organization’s change process. Verify the effective running configuration rather than relying on a configuration file that may not have been applied.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Retest from outside
Repeat the same tests from the same source network so that before-and-after results are comparable. Then perform a second check from another authorized external source if allow-listing or multiple public addresses are involved. A successful change should be visible in the external result and in the firewall, proxy, host, or container configuration.
Best Value
Common reasons the result is misleading
Testing from inside the LAN
Internal routing, split DNS, or hairpin NAT can make an endpoint appear reachable even when the public path is blocked. Always include an outside-network test.
Checking only ports 80 and 443
Those are the documented defaults, not a guarantee for every installation. Ahsay connectors can be moved, with 8080 and 8443 documented as examples. Confirm the actual connector settings and test the approved alternatives.
Assuming the first web page is AhsayCBS
A reverse proxy, firewall portal, or unrelated service can answer on the same port. Identify the service before labeling the Ahsay deployment exposed.
Confusing a public web service with public administration
A backup or restore endpoint may intentionally be public while the Administration Panel remains LAN-only. Test management access separately and evaluate its source-IP policy.
Ignoring multiple addresses
DNS can return several IPv4 or IPv6 addresses, and a proxy can use a different address from the Ahsay host. Test each authorized public endpoint that clients may use.
Changing rules without recording the original state
Unrecorded firewall, NAT, proxy, or Docker changes make troubleshooting and rollback difficult. Capture the rule, reason, approver, and retest result as part of the change record.
A practical exposure-check worksheet
| Field | Entry to record |
|---|---|
| Deployment | Hostname, public IP address, and environment name |
| External source | Testing network and source address or range |
| Time | Date, time, and time zone |
| Ports | 80, 443, and each configured alternative such as 8080 or 8443 |
| Connectivity | Connection succeeded, refused, timed out, or filtered |
| Service identity | AhsayCBS, reverse proxy, another service, or not identified |
| Administration access | LAN-only, approved IP ranges, or publicly reachable |
| Control path | Firewall rule, NAT, proxy route, host rule, and Docker mapping |
| Intent | Required, excessive, or needs design-owner confirmation |
| Follow-up | Change made, approver, and retest result |
Use the same worksheet after changes and retain both versions. The comparison should show not only that a port stopped responding, but also that the intended users can still perform required backup, restore, and administrative tasks.
Bottom-line interpretation
An AhsayCBS server is publicly reachable when an authorized test from outside the organization can connect to its public endpoint on a configured port and the service path confirms that AhsayCBS is behind the response. The recommended public design in Ahsay’s v9 documentation is limited to TCP 80 and 443 for the documented incoming and web-interface traffic, while the Administration Panel should remain LAN-only or restricted to approved IP addresses. Because connectors, proxies, NAT, host firewalls, and Docker mappings can differ by deployment, the reliable method is to test externally, identify the responding service, inspect every forwarding layer, verify management restrictions, and retest after each change.
