To check whether a Zcash wallet supports a network upgrade, identify the exact wallet and its version, then confirm support for the named upgrade in the wallet developer’s release notes or directly with its support team. If you use the Zcash zcashd full-node wallet, compare your running version with the official release and follow the documented update process. Check feature support separately: compatibility with the network does not by itself confirm support for shielded addresses or the transaction flows you need.
What “supports the upgrade” means
The Zcash Documentation glossary defines a network upgrade as “a software-updates-required release of the Zcash software.” Old incompatible nodes may follow an outdated chain after activation until they are upgraded. Wallets also differ in how they work. The official guidance for zcashd applies to that full-node client and its embedded wallet; an independently developed mobile app, desktop wallet, or hardware wallet has its own software and support decisions. The general Zcash documentation does not certify every third-party wallet.

Identify the wallet and version
Write down the exact product name and version. Distinguish the

Name the specific upgrade
Use the Zcash Network Upgrade Guide and the release notes or specification for the particular upgrade. The guide includes historical examples such as Overwinter and Sapling, which changed transaction formats; those examples are not a statement of requirements for a different or future upgrade. Check the named upgrade’s own documentation for applicable changes.

Look for an explicit support statement
For a third-party wallet, find a release note or support notice that identifies both the named upgrade and the wallet version. If you cannot find one, ask the wallet developer directly. A general claim that a product “supports Zcash” is not the same as confirmation for a specific upgrade. If an upgrade-related error appears in a third-party app, the Network Upgrade Guide directs users to contact that app’s developer.

Confirm the features you use
Ask whether the wallet supports the relevant transaction format and signing flow, as well as your address type. In particular, verify shielded-address support rather than assuming it from general network compatibility. Update using the provider’s instructions
For
zcashd, follow the official upgrade procedure and verify the reported version afterward. For an independently developed wallet or device, use its provider’s instructions; thezcashdupdate steps do not apply to other products. -
Back up and pause if confirmation is missing
Before changing a
zcashdinstallation, follow the documentation’s backup advice:wallet.datholds wallet keys and transaction information, so back it up regularly and protect the file with private permissions. If a third-party provider has not confirmed support, pause activity that depends on the upgrade and ask them before proceeding.

- Named-upgrade support: Is the exact upgrade identified, and does the statement apply to the wallet version you have?
- Address and transaction support: Can the wallet handle the address type, transaction format, and signing flow you need, including shielded addresses if applicable?
- Version and notice clarity: Can you find the wallet version and upgrade status? The Network Upgrade Guide recommends that wallet operators make the Zcash version easy for users to find and communicate upgrade notices.
- Backup and recovery: Is there a documented way to protect and recover the wallet? Zcash documentation advises regular backups and protection of wallet files. Recommended Wallets
Electric Coin Company (ECC) says it does not endorse particular digital wallets other than the Zcashd full-node wallet. A wallet appearing in documentation or receiving a courtesy recommendation should not be treated as an endorsement or a guarantee that it supports a specific upgrade.
For zcashd: verify the release and update status
The official full-node documentation describes checking the running software version against the source release and following its documented update process. It also states that a node that remains un-upgraded within 16 weeks of a release reaches an end-of-support halt. That interval is an operational support rule for the documented node, not a measure of how many wallets support an upgrade.
Use the version check and update instructions in the Zcash Full Node and CLI guide. Do not assume that installing or updating zcashd also updates an unrelated wallet app or hardware device.

For third-party apps and hardware wallets
Ask the developer about the specific upgrade, the exact app or device version, and the transaction or address features you use. Hardware wallets and SPV clients can be affected when upgrades change transaction formats, as the Network Upgrade Guide notes; that historical observation does not establish that any particular current product is incompatible. Use the named upgrade’s requirements and the provider’s current statement to decide.
The guide also recommends advance notice and a brief transaction pause around activation for wallet operators. This is operational advice for providers, not a universal instruction that every individual user must follow on the same schedule.

What official documentation does—and does not—confirm
The reviewed Zcash documentation explains upgrade preparation, node version checks, wallet feature distinctions, and the need to consult third-party developers about their products. It does not provide a statistic for the share of wallets compatible with a given upgrade, nor does it confirm compatibility for an unnamed third-party wallet or unspecified upgrade. That confirmation has to come from the relevant wallet provider and the documentation for the named upgrade.
