To check a viral celebrity clip, trace it to the earliest credible upload, verify the event and caption independently, and inspect provenance on the original file if you can. AI checkers and platform labels can provide useful clues, but no single result proves that a clip is authentic, false, or shown in the right context.
Start with the claim, not the pixels
Write down exactly what the post says happened: who supposedly said or did what, where, and when. A genuine clip can still be paired with a false caption, an old event, or an edit that changes its meaning. Checking whether footage was AI-generated is therefore only part of checking whether the post is accurate.

Trace the clip to its earliest credible source
- Check the uploader. Look for a post from the celebrity, their representative, a credible news organization, or an account with a verifiable connection to the event. A reposting account is not, by itself, evidence of origin.
- Search distinctive wording. Search a distinctive phrase from the caption and look for earlier uploads or a longer version of the clip. Google recommends reverse image search as an aid to verification; it can help surface related images or earlier appearances, but does not settle authenticity on its own (Google’s Gemini verification guidance).
- Compare the event with independent sources. Look for reliable reporting or primary statements about the alleged appearance, interview, or incident. A checker reporting no AI signal does not show that the event happened as described.
Check provenance on the right file
If possible, use the original file or earliest upload—not a screenshot, screen recording, crop, or repeatedly compressed repost. Transformations and reposting can remove metadata or weaken signals that a checker might otherwise recognize. OpenAI specifically notes that conversion, cropping, screenshots, and metadata removal can result in no detected signal even when AI was involved (OpenAI’s content provenance guide).
Some files carry C2PA Content Credentials, which can record information about origin and editing history. They are optional, so their absence does not show that a clip is genuine or AI-made. And even when credentials are present, provenance records history; they do not establish whether the depicted event is true or presented in context. As C2PA puts it, “Provenance information alone cannot tell you whether the digital content is true, accurate or factual” (C2PA Explainer).

Choose a checker that supports the clip and signal
Tools check particular signals and file types; they are not universal AI detectors. Before relying on a result, note what service checked which file and what it claims to recognize.

Google suggests questions such as “Was this image/video/audio created or edited by Google AI?”, “Is this AI-generated?”, and “Is this a real video?” Treat these as queries to a tool, not guarantees that it can resolve every case (Google’s Gemini verification guidance).

Interpret results narrowly
- “Detected” is about a supported signal. It may support the presence of the signal that service checks for; it does not, by itself, identify a creator, reveal a prompt or account, or establish the truth of the scene.
- “Not detected” is not a clean bill of health. It means the checker did not find a signal it supports. The file may have been altered, stripped of metadata, made with an unsupported product, or never carried that signal.
- A label is a lead, not a verdict on context. A platform’s label can help identify disclosed or recognized AI use, but does not tell you whether a repost’s caption accurately describes the event.
The cited services describe different signals and media support; their documentation does not establish a reliable cross-provider accuracy ranking. Do not call one the “most accurate” on that basis.

Describe the clip as unverified or say that available checks are inconclusive if you cannot establish its source, event, or provenance. Avoid presenting a detector result as proof either way. If you encounter suspected policy-violating media on TikTok, its guidance describes a misinformation/deepfake reporting flow (TikTok’s AI-generated content guidance).
