Offline support is determined by the specific title, platform, edition, digital rights management (DRM), account entitlement and whether the game requires a one-time or permanent connection. Ubisoft+ is a separate case: its support terms require internet access even for offline play.
To avoid a failed launch while travelling, verify the exact game and edition, complete its first online launch, switch Ubisoft Connect to Offline mode, disconnect your network and test the single-player content you intend to use. Treat that test as valid only for the same platform, account, edition and software state.

What “offline play” actually means
Offline play is not a single Ubisoft-wide feature. It can refer to several different things:

- Offline launcher startup: Ubisoft Connect PC opens without contacting Ubisoft’s servers.
- Offline game launch: the installed game passes its entitlement and DRM checks without a live connection.
- Offline single-player access: the campaign, map or other local content remains usable after launch.
- Offline feature support: saves, unlocks, statistics, news, rewards and other connected services continue to function.
A title may satisfy the first three and still lose connected features. Conversely, a launcher that supports Offline mode cannot override a game’s permanent-online requirement. Ubisoft’s Terms of Use 5.0, section 4.5, state that a high-speed internet connection, an account and Ubisoft Connect may be required to install, launch, access or unlock all or part of the content and services. The same section warns that some games and features may require a permanent online connection.

Therefore, the useful question is not “Does Ubisoft Connect work offline?” It is “Will this exact title, edition and entitlement reach the content I need after my connection is removed?”
Check these details before you test
Write down the details below. A result for one configuration should not be generalized to another.

Use the official requirements as your first source
Open the game’s current official store or support page for your platform and edition. Look specifically for these phrases:

- “Internet connection required” or “persistent/permanent online connection.”
- “Ubisoft account required.”
- “Ubisoft Connect required.”
- DRM or third-party account requirements.
- First-launch activation or one-time online authentication.
- Online-only modes, services or unlocks.
Read the end-user license agreement and the platform listing as well as the feature description. A page that says a game contains a single-player mode does not, by itself, prove that the mode can be launched without a connection. Conversely, a page that documents an offline startup path is stronger evidence for that particular title and configuration.
Ubisoft’s general terms are a warning about possible requirements, not a game-by-game compatibility list. They deliberately allow requirements to vary by content and service. Do not infer a universal rule from another game in the same series.

Six-step offline verification workflow
Perform this process while you still have reliable internet access. It tests the installed software rather than relying only on a store description.
- Identify the exact configuration. Confirm the title, platform, region, edition, ownership method and Ubisoft account. If you use a boxed console copy, PC download, cloud version or subscription entitlement, treat each as a separate case.
- Complete installation and updates online. Install the game, Ubisoft Connect where required, and all available patches. Do not begin with a partially updated installation; an update may change authentication or offline behavior.
- Launch while connected. Sign in to the Ubisoft account that owns or licenses the game. Allow first-launch activation, entitlement checks, account linking and any required setup to finish. Reach the intended single-player menu or load a save.
- Put Ubisoft Connect PC in Offline mode. Use the account or profile controls in the client to select Offline mode. Ubisoft documents that Ubisoft Connect PC will launch in Offline mode when no internet connection is available, although some features may be affected.
- Remove the network connection. Disconnect Wi-Fi or unplug Ethernet after the client is in Offline mode. If another launcher or platform client is involved, make sure it is also able to operate without a connection; do not assume one client’s status changes another’s.
- Test the content you need. Start the game, load an existing save and begin a new session if that matters to you. Record whether the campaign, local saves, add-ons and required settings work. Also note every missing feature, warning or sign-in prompt.
A successful test applies only to the title, platform, edition, account, subscription state and installed version you tested. Repeat it after a major patch, reinstallation, account change or subscription change.

Ubisoft Help says that Ubisoft Connect PC will launch in Offline mode if there is no internet connection. Another Ubisoft Help article explains that a lack of connectivity can affect features and functionality, including login issues. These statements describe the client’s behavior; they do not promise that a particular game will pass its own checks.
Offline mode is best understood as a reduced-connectivity state. The client may open and present installed games, while the game itself decides whether it can authenticate, decrypt content and load the requested mode. If a title requires a permanent online connection, Offline mode cannot remove that requirement.
When you need to force the test, close the game, set the client to Offline mode, then disable Wi-Fi or unplug Ethernet. Starting with the network still active can hide a first-launch requirement and produce a false sense of readiness. If the client asks you to sign in again after the network is removed, capture the exact message and check the game’s requirements before changing files or reinstalling.

Purchased games versus Ubisoft+ games
Subscription access has a stricter rule than a permanently purchased license. Ubisoft+ support states that an internet connection is needed to launch and play Ubisoft+ games. Ubisoft+ Subscription Terms 2.0 require a persistent internet connection for both online and offline play.
That means an offline test that succeeds for a purchased copy does not establish offline access for the same title through Ubisoft+. A subscription entitlement may need to be revalidated, and access can end when the subscription changes or expires. If you expect to travel without connectivity, verify the entitlement type first; do not rely on a downloaded Ubisoft+ installation as though it were a purchased license.

What usually disappears when you go offline
Even a game that reaches its single-player content may lose services that depend on Ubisoft’s servers or another platform. During your test, check each item rather than assuming it is available:
- Online multiplayer, matchmaking and co-operative sessions.
- News feeds, leaderboards and player statistics.
- Cloud synchronization and any save-management feature that requires a server.
- Challenge tracking, reward delivery and inventory updates.
- Social features, invitations and account-linked events.
- Downloadable content or unlockable items that have not yet been authenticated.
Local progress may remain usable, but that depends on how the game stores saves and validates content. Make a local backup where the platform permits it before travelling. Do not assume that a save created offline will synchronize automatically when you reconnect; test synchronization later and resolve any conflict carefully.
Example: Anno 1800
Ubisoft’s support documentation specifically states that Anno 1800 starts in offline mode when Ubisoft Connect PC is in Offline mode. The same guidance warns that online features are unavailable offline.

This is a useful example of the distinction between launch and feature availability. The documented behavior supports an offline startup path for that title on Ubisoft Connect PC, but it does not make multiplayer, connected services or every online-dependent function available. Use the same title-specific documentation approach for other Ubisoft games instead of treating this example as a series-wide guarantee.

Ubisoft’s legacy-service notices commonly state that, for most listed older games, online multiplayer, in-game news and player statistics were shut down while the offline features remained available. A service retirement therefore does not automatically remove the campaign or other local modes.
There are two separate questions:
- Can the installed game still launch and run its offline content?
- Which server-connected features were retired or are no longer reachable?
Check the notice for the exact game. A discontinued leaderboard or reward service may be gone even when the core offline game remains usable. Conversely, an older title can still have an activation or account requirement that must be satisfied before it works offline.
Diagnose a failed offline launch
The client opens, but the game refuses to start
Reconnect, sign in with the owning account and confirm that first-launch activation and updates completed. Read the game’s requirements for a permanent connection or DRM. If the requirement is persistent, Offline mode cannot fix it.

Determine whether that mode uses multiplayer, cloud data, server validation or an online reward system. Try a known local save and a new offline session. If only connected content is absent, the result is expected rather than a launcher failure.
The client keeps requesting login
Verify that you tested the same account that owns the license. Ubisoft’s support guidance notes that offline operation can affect login-related functionality. Reconnect, complete authentication, set Offline mode again and retest before travelling.
An update or reinstall broke offline access
Repeat the online preparation steps. A reinstall may remove cached activation data, and a major patch can alter requirements. Do not assume a previous successful test remains valid after a software-state change.
A subscription game stopped working
Check the Ubisoft+ rule first. Ubisoft+ requires internet access to launch and play, including offline play under its subscription terms. A local installation does not convert subscription access into a perpetual offline license.
Travel and outage checklist
- Launch the exact game online at least once after the latest update.
- Confirm that the correct Ubisoft and platform accounts are linked and signed in.
- Open the intended campaign or local mode while connected.
- Set Ubisoft Connect PC to Offline mode.
- Disconnect Wi-Fi or Ethernet and repeat the launch.
- Load a local save and test a new session if both matter.
- Note which multiplayer, cloud, statistics, news, challenge and reward features disappear.
- Keep installation media, updates and any required add-ons available before leaving.
- Repeat the test after patches, reinstalls, account changes or subscription changes.
The decision rule
Plan on offline play only when all three conditions are met: the official requirements do not impose a permanent connection; the exact installed title has completed its online activation and entitlement checks; and the offline launch test reaches the content you need. If any condition fails, assume that you need internet access until the game’s current official documentation says otherwise.
Ubisoft Connect’s Offline mode is useful, but it is a launcher capability, not a guarantee. The reliable answer always belongs to the specific game, platform, edition and license.
