On a PS4, open the function screen, choose PlayStation Plus, then open Game Catalog. Search for the game and read its listing before deciding that it is included. The listing tells you whether the title is in the catalog, which membership tier is required, and whether the available action is download or streaming.
Do not treat every PlayStation Plus game as part of the same library. Monthly Games, Game Catalog, and Classics Catalog have different rules. Availability also changes by country or region and over time, so the live PlayStation Plus hub on your own console is the final check.

The fastest way to check a PS4 game
Use the PS4 interface rather than relying on an old article, a search result, or a friend’s account. Catalog contents can change, and a game visible in one country may not appear in another.

- From the PS4 function screen, scroll right and select PlayStation Plus.
- Scroll down and select Game Catalog.
- Browse the categories or use search to find the game by name.
- Open the game’s listing. Check the membership label, any removal or end date, and the available action.
- Confirm that your membership tier and country or region match the listing. If the title is offered only through streaming, make sure that option is supported for your account and console.
If the game appears in Game Catalog and the listing lets your tier access it, it is currently available through that catalog for your region. That does not mean you own it permanently. A catalog title can leave the service, so record any displayed end date if you plan to start a long game.

What to have ready before searching
Use the account that will actually play the game. The console’s catalog is tied to the account’s country or region, so checking while signed in to a different account can produce a misleading result. Know the exact title and, if relevant, whether you mean the original PS4 release, a remaster, or another edition. Separate listings can have different access buttons.
Do not use a disc, a purchase receipt, or an installed copy as a substitute for the catalog check. Those facts may explain why a game launches on a particular console, but they do not establish that the title is currently supplied by PlayStation Plus.
What the listing can—and cannot—tell you
A title’s PlayStation Plus page is the authoritative status check on the console. Look for these details together instead of treating the word “included” as a complete answer.
- Library: Determine whether the title is a Monthly Game, a Game Catalog item, or a Classics Catalog item.
- Required tier: A game may be visible in the service but locked for a lower plan.
- Region: The catalog shown on your console is tied to your country or region.
- Time limit: Catalog games can show an end date and may be removed.
- Delivery method: Most catalog games are available to download, but some listings may offer streaming or have different supported functions.
If selecting the title produces a download option, the game is available to install on the PS4 under the displayed conditions. If the page presents streaming instead, do not assume that a downloadable PS4 copy is included. Read the individual listing.
An “included” result is therefore conditional, not a permanent ownership statement. It means the service currently offers a particular entitlement to an account in a particular region and tier, using the method shown on that page. If any one of those conditions changes, access can change too.
Identify which PlayStation Plus library contains the game
PlayStation uses three names that are easy to confuse. The access rule depends on the library, not simply on whether the game runs on PS4.

This distinction explains many apparently conflicting answers. A person may say a game is “on Plus” because it was a Monthly Game, while another sees it only in a rotating catalog. Both statements can be accurate at different times, tiers, or regions.

Which membership tier is required?
PlayStation’s US comparison lists Essential with Monthly Games, while Extra and Premium include Game Catalog access. Premium also includes the Classics Catalog. These labels describe the US comparison; plan names, features, and availability can differ in other countries or regions.

Use the table as a way to interpret the listing, not as a substitute for checking your local plan page. If a Game Catalog title is locked behind an upgrade prompt, Essential access alone is not enough in the US comparison. If a Monthly Game is being offered during its claim period, Essential can be sufficient even though that tier does not include the rotating Game Catalog.
Before changing plans, open the game page and identify the exact library and tier named there. Upgrading solely because a game was mentioned in a Monthly Games announcement can be unnecessary if Essential already covers that claim. Conversely, a Game Catalog result may require Extra or Premium even when the same game was never a Monthly Game for your account.
How to check a Monthly Game correctly
Monthly Games follow a claim process that differs from simply downloading a catalog title.
- On the PS4 function screen, scroll right to PlayStation Plus.
- Choose Monthly Games.
- Highlight the game you want.
- Select Add to Library.
- Choose Download if you want to install it immediately.
Adding the game to your library is the important step. Once claimed, a Monthly Game can be played while the membership is active. It is not the same as purchasing a permanent license, and it is separate from the list of games that rotates in and out of Game Catalog.
If you only see a promotional reference elsewhere, return to the Monthly Games section and look for the Add to Library command. A mention in a news post does not itself complete the claim. If the title is no longer offered for that month, it may not be claimable even if an older announcement still appears in a search result.
The Monthly Games schedule also has a current policy note on PlayStation’s US membership page: from January 2026, PS4 games will be added to Monthly Games only intermittently. That statement concerns future Monthly Games additions; it does not say that PS4 games are being removed from Game Catalog.
How to check a Game Catalog title
For a named PS4 game, Game Catalog is the most direct place to start.
Search from the console
Open PlayStation Plus from the function screen and select Game Catalog. Search by the game’s exact title, then open the result. If several editions appear, inspect each listing: a standard edition, a remaster, and a cloud version may have different access rules.
Try the catalog’s browse categories if a title search fails. Check spelling, subtitles, and alternate editions rather than concluding immediately that the game is unavailable. Then check Monthly Games and Classics Catalog separately, because a title in one library will not necessarily appear in another library’s search results.

Read the access button
The action shown after you select the game is more useful than a thumbnail or category badge. A download command indicates an installable option. A streaming command indicates that the available method may be cloud play instead. If the page asks you to upgrade, note the tier named in that prompt before changing plans.

Some catalog listings display an end date. Treat that date as the last stated availability for the service, not as a guarantee that your installed copy becomes a permanent purchase. If no date is shown, the title can still be subject to catalog changes; absence of a date is not a promise of permanence.
Check your country or region before concluding that a game is missing
PlayStation says the full list available in a country or region is shown through the PlayStation Plus hub on the console. Regional licensing means that two PS4 systems can show different results for the same search. A game may also move between libraries or disappear from one market while remaining available in another.
When checking from a different country, do not use another person’s screenshot as proof. Verify the title while signed in to the account and region that will actually play it. The relevant sequence is:
- Open the PlayStation Plus hub on your PS4.
- Enter the local Game Catalog or Monthly Games section.
- Search for the title.
- Read the tier and delivery information shown for your account.
US plan comparisons and policy pages should not be presented as global pricing or availability. If your console uses different tier names or shows different content, follow the local hub and membership page.

Region checks are especially important when comparing a friend’s result with yours. The difference may not be a mistake: country, plan, and catalog timing can all produce a different listing. Only the result shown for the account that will play the game answers your question.
Download versus streaming on PS4
“Available on PlayStation Plus” does not automatically mean “downloadable to this PS4.” PlayStation says most catalog games are available to download, but streaming availability and supported functions can differ by title, plan, and region.

A disc you own does not change the PlayStation Plus catalog status. The check is about the service entitlement and delivery method shown for the account, not about whether a physical copy exists.
Likewise, a download button does not promise indefinite access after a catalog removal. It identifies the method available under the current listing. Keep the end date and the required tier in mind even after installation.

A practical decision checklist
Use this checklist before telling someone that a PS4 game is included:
- Did you search the PS4’s own Game Catalog rather than an archived list?
- Did you check Monthly Games separately if the game was promoted as a monthly offering?
- Did you identify whether it is a modern catalog title or a Classics Catalog entry?
- Did you confirm the required tier against your current membership?
- Did you verify the result in the country or region attached to the account?
- Did you read any end date or leaving-soon notice?
- Did you confirm whether the page offers download, streaming, or both?
If every answer is yes, you have checked the conditions that determine current access. If one answer is no, the word “included” is premature.
Common situations and what they mean
The game appears, but a lock icon is shown
A lock or upgrade message generally means the title is visible in the service but your present tier does not unlock it. Open the listing and note the named tier. In the US comparison, Game Catalog access is associated with Extra and Premium, not Essential.
The game was downloadable last month but is gone now
That is consistent with a rotating catalog. Search again in the current Game Catalog and look for a removal notice. A previous installation or an old article does not establish current access.

The game is listed under Classics
Classics Catalog availability is associated with Premium in PlayStation’s US comparison. Check the individual page for PS4 download support; a classic or streaming listing should not be assumed to install locally.
A friend can see the game, but you cannot
Compare regions, membership tiers, and the library section being used. The PlayStation Plus hub is region-specific, and a title can be available in one country, plan, or library while absent from another.
The game is shown in a Monthly Games article but not in your library
Open Monthly Games on the console and use Add to Library. A promotional mention does not by itself complete the claim. After adding it, the game remains playable while the membership is active.
The game appears under more than one edition
Open each relevant result instead of assuming the first listing applies to every version. The standard PS4 edition, a remaster, and a streaming version can expose different actions or tier requirements. Choose the listing that matches the version you intend to play.
No end date is displayed
An absent date only means that the page does not currently show one. It does not turn a Game Catalog title into a permanent purchase. Continue to treat the catalog as changeable and recheck if the game is central to your decision.
Why current verification matters
Catalog information is time-sensitive. PlayStation can add or remove Game Catalog titles, change which plans receive a feature, and show different selections by region. A page that accurately described a game last year may now be wrong without being obviously outdated.
For that reason, check immediately before downloading or renewing a plan. The console listing supplies the three facts that matter for the decision: whether the title is present, which tier is required, and how it can be played. If the game is central to your purchase decision, save a screenshot of the listing’s end date and access method, then recheck before beginning a long download.
Bottom line
On PS4, the official route is PlayStation Plus → Game Catalog. Search for the game, open its listing, and verify the library, tier, region, end date, and download or streaming method. Check Monthly Games separately for claimed monthly titles, and treat Classics Catalog entries as a distinct Premium offering.
