Compare the Prime Day offer with the same product’s usual range and recent lows, then verify the exact model and the final checkout price. Amazon’s price-history feature is a useful first check; an independent tracker can add a chart or alert.
Check the product’s price history
Start on the listing for the exact item you plan to buy. Open its Amazon price-history feature if available, or ask Alexa for Shopping a question such as “What’s the price history?” Amazon also suggests asking whether an item has been on sale in the past 30 days or whether its current price is the lowest recently.

Use the longest useful view available. Amazon describes 30-, 90- and 365-day price-history views, but access varies by market and the 365-day view was rolling out in some markets when Amazon published its 2026 guidance. Amazon said price history was available to customers in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and India; check your own product page because availability can change. A 90-day view is a practical minimum when offered, while a 365-day view can show seasonal patterns or older lows.

- Near the ordinary range: The deal may be a routine price rather than an unusually low one.
- Near a recent low: It is lower than much of the displayed history, though that alone does not predict what the price will do next.
- Near an older low: It may be an uncommon price in the chart’s time window, but the chart does not establish that the price will not fall again.
Read the chart as a record, not a forecast. It cannot by itself tell you the probability of a future discount or set a universal threshold for what counts as a good deal.

Make sure the comparison is for the exact item
Check the model and configuration before comparing prices. A chart for a base model may not tell you whether a deal is good for a higher-storage version, a bundle, or a listing with different included accessories. Colors, bundles, storage capacities and seller offers can make apparently similar listings poor comparisons. Verify the item and terms on the offer page rather than assuming a history chart covers every variation.
Understand Amazon’s price labels
Typical Price
Amazon defines Typical Price as the median non-promotional price customers paid over the previous 90 days. Effective May 18, 2026, Amazon said that if more than half of a product’s 90-day price-history days are below that non-promotional median, it will calculate Typical Price using all sales, including promotional sales. Amazon also says discounts not advertised to customers as promotions are treated as non-promotional and included. Typical Price can provide context for the listing, but the product’s history is still useful for judging the current offer.

List Price
Effective April 23, 2026, Amazon said a List Price must meet one of two conditions: the product was recently offered at that price by another retailer, or customers purchased it as Amazon’s Featured Offer at that price. That validation is not proof that the current price is the best available or the lowest the item has ever reached.

The FTC’s business advertising FAQ adds: “The same standards for truthfulness apply when companies make claims about price comparisons, ‘sale’ prices, and the like.” These are U.S. federal advertising standards; they do not replace checking the product’s actual price history.

Use an independent tracker as a second check
CamelCamelCamel says it offers Amazon price-history charts and price-drop alerts. You can use a chart to add another view of past prices or set an alert if you are willing to wait. The reviewed information does not establish that any tracker captures every coupon or final checkout condition, so confirm the live listing and terms yourself. There is no controlled comparison here of tracker accuracy.

Before buying, check the final checkout price and any coupon, eligibility requirement or other condition attached to the offer. Compare that amount with the history for the matching item, not only the listing’s discount badge or reference price. Whether the deal is worth taking depends on your needs and the price you are willing to pay; there is no evidence-based universal percentage-off threshold.
