How to Check Whether a PlayStation Game Works with AnyPS5 on Windows or Linux

To check whether a PlayStation 5 game works through the PS5-on-PC project assumed here—AnyPS5—use AnyPS5’s current tested compatibility table. Search for the game, verify its PS5 title ID, select the exact operating system, and then read the reported status, test notes, hardware and known issues. A listing for Windows does not establish Linux support, and a game that reaches a menu or renders one frame is not necessarily marked playable.

This guide uses AnyPS5 terminology. AnyPS5 describes itself as an automatic executable-porting tool for Linux and Windows, with a relinker and implementations of console system libraries for host-side linking. It is more precise to describe it as an interoperability and porting project than to assume it behaves like a conventional emulator. If you meant another PS5-on-PC project, use that project’s own compatibility database and status definitions instead.

What you need before checking a game

You do not need to buy hardware or install anything merely to look up a status. The lookup is an information task. Have the following details ready:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • The exact game name, including whether it is a remake, remaster, demo, early-access build or regional edition.
  • The PS5 title ID, when available. A title ID separates similarly named releases that can have different executables.
  • Your target operating system: Windows and Linux are separate compatibility targets in the table.
  • The AnyPS5 build or release you intend to use, because reports can reflect an older or newer project state.
  • Your PC configuration, including graphics processor, processor model, memory and driver or distribution details where relevant.

The project README directs readers to its game compatibility list for tested games and known issues. That list, rather than a general progress page or a video showing one title, is the authoritative starting point for this check.

Step-by-step: look up a title in AnyPS5

  1. Open the current AnyPS5 tested compatibility table. Use the project’s live compatibility page, not a cached screenshot or an old forum list. Statuses, supported platforms and issue notes can change as the project evolves.
  2. Search for the game title. Use the table’s search function or your browser’s find command. Try the publisher’s full title first, then a distinctive part of the name if the first search returns nothing.
  3. Match the PS5 title ID. If the table shows an ID, compare it with the ID for your copy. Do not treat two games with the same subtitle or a similar name as interchangeable. Different editions, regions and patches may use different executables.
  4. Read the row for the exact platform. Inspect the Windows and Linux columns separately. A Windows result is evidence for the recorded Windows test only; it does not imply that the Linux build works.
  5. Read the status and linked report. Open any game report, issue list or test notes attached to the row. Note whether the project reports only a launch, an entry point, a rendered frame, a menu, partial gameplay or a playable result.
  6. Record the test context. Copy the AnyPS5 build, game patch, special configuration, graphics hardware, processor and measured frame rate shown in the report. These details tell you what was actually tested.
  7. Compare the evidence with your setup. Similar hardware can still behave differently because of drivers, operating-system versions, game patches and project changes. Treat the entry as a data point, not a guarantee for every PC.

How to interpret compatibility statuses

Compatibility tables often compress a complicated test into a short label. Read the milestone behind the label before deciding whether a game is usable.

Launch or entry-point success

A title may start its executable, show a process in the task manager or reach an initial screen. This proves that some of the executable and system-library path is functioning. It does not prove that rendering, audio, input, saving or later scenes work.

Rendering a frame or reaching a menu

Seeing a logo, loading screen or menu is a stronger result than a process launch, but it is still an early milestone. A game can stop at the first 3D scene, fail when a shader is compiled, or crash when it accesses a system service.

Reaching gameplay

When a report says the game reaches gameplay, check what the report actually tested. “Gameplay” may mean a short playable section rather than a complete campaign. Look for notes about missing audio, broken effects, freezes, input problems, saves or areas that were not tested.

“In game, playable”

AnyPS5’s table uses labels such as “In game, playable” for a result that the project considers usable at the recorded test point. Even this label is bounded by the listed operating system, build and hardware. It is not a certification that every level, patch or PC configuration will work.

Unknown or question-mark entries

A “?” or an untested field means the table does not establish compatibility for that platform. Do not convert an unknown Linux result into “probably works” because Windows has a positive result, or because another game from the same publisher runs.

Platform matters: Windows and Linux are different checks

AnyPS5 reports platform-specific results. The project’s host-side libraries, executable handling, graphics stack and system integration can differ between Windows and Linux. Therefore, always select the operating-system result that matches where you will run the game.

What the table says What you can conclude What you cannot conclude
Windows: a tested playable result The recorded Windows setup reached the project’s playable status. That Linux works, or that another Windows PC will match the frame rate.
Linux: a tested playable result The recorded Linux setup reached the project’s playable status. That Windows has the same behavior or that every Linux distribution is equivalent.
One platform marked “?” No established result is shown for that platform. A prediction based on the other platform’s result.
No row for your title The table does not provide a tested result for that exact listing. That the game is compatible or incompatible in general.

For Linux, distribution, kernel, graphics driver and desktop-session details can matter. For Windows, driver versions, runtime components and the project build can matter. Reported notes are more useful than a generic “PC requirements” label because they identify the conditions of the actual test.

Use the title ID to avoid checking the wrong edition

Names alone are unreliable. A base game, deluxe edition, regional release, remaster and demo can have different PS5 title IDs. If AnyPS5 lists an ID, compare it with the ID shown by your game dump or other legitimate ownership records.

For example, the compatibility table identifies Dreaming Sarah with the PS5 title ID PPSA02929. If your copy has a different ID, do not assume that the Dreaming Sarah row applies. Search for the other ID or treat the result as unconfirmed until the project documents that exact executable.

Read the test hardware without turning it into a minimum requirement

AnyPS5’s hardware figures belong to the individual test row. They are evidence of what the project ran, not a published minimum or recommended specification for all games.

The current table gives a concrete example for Dreaming Sarah (PPSA02929) on Windows:

Reported result Graphics Processor Reported performance
In game, playable GTX 1050 Ti i5-7500 at 3.4 GHz 60 FPS
In game, playable Intel HD Graphics 620 i5-7200 at 2.5 GHz 36 FPS
Linux Not stated Not stated ?

These are project-reported figures from the table’s undated live test entry, checked in 2026. They describe that game and those recorded configurations. They do not establish a universal 60-FPS target, a generic GTX 1050 Ti requirement, or Linux performance.

Do not infer a compatibility percentage from the number of rows or reports. The available project material does not establish a named, dated population statistic for the share of PlayStation games that work.

Why a technical milestone is not the same as full compatibility

Executable porting involves more than recognizing instructions. A project may identify shader instructions or link enough system-library calls to start a title while still lacking functions required later in the game. Technical coverage can therefore look promising without proving that a particular game is playable from beginning to end.

Tom’s Hardware has discussed the distinction between recognizing shader instructions and achieving actual game compatibility. Use that kind of technical context to understand why a progress demonstration or a single rendered frame cannot replace a per-game report. The AnyPS5 table remains the relevant evidence for a specific title.

When reading a report, look for failures in these areas:

  • Graphics: black screens, missing textures, broken lighting, corrupted shaders or crashes when a new effect appears.
  • Audio: absent dialogue, looping sound, delayed effects or a crash during a cutscene.
  • Input: menus that do not accept keyboard, mouse or controller commands, or controls that stop working after focus changes.
  • Progression: freezes at a level transition, cutscene or scripted event even when the opening area works.
  • Persistence: failed saves, load errors or a title that cannot resume after restarting.
  • Performance: a high average frame rate that hides severe stutter, shader-compilation pauses or frame-time spikes.

What to do when your game is not listed

Confirm that you searched accurately

Try the full title, a shortened title and the title ID. Check punctuation, subtitles and regional naming. Search for a report page linked from the project even if the main table is difficult to filter.

Do not substitute a related game

A sequel, remake or game built on the same engine is not a valid substitute for your executable. Use related entries only as background context, never as proof.

Check both platform columns

An empty Linux field and a positive Windows field represent different states. Record the unknown platform as untested rather than as a likely success or failure.

Recheck after project updates

Compatibility can change when AnyPS5 adds system-library implementations, fixes the relinker or changes graphics handling. Revisit the live table when you move to a new project build, apply a game patch or encounter behavior that differs from an older report.

How to compare two reports for the same title

If a game has multiple entries or reports, compare them on the same axes instead of choosing the highest frame-rate number:

Comparison axis Questions to ask
Operating system Are both results for Windows, both for Linux, or different platforms?
Status milestone Did each test launch, render, reach gameplay or receive a playable label?
Build and patch Were the same AnyPS5 build and game patch used? Was special setup required?
Hardware Are the graphics processor and CPU comparable, and are drivers or distribution details listed?
Known issues Does one report mention crashes, freezes, audio, rendering or saving problems?
Test date Does the result reflect the current project release or an older snapshot?

A newer report with a lower frame rate can still be the more useful result if it tests your platform and documents fewer blocking issues. Conversely, an old “playable” label may no longer match current behavior after a project or game update.

Do not confuse AnyPS5 with an official PlayStation PC release

AnyPS5 compatibility is separate from buying an official PC version. Sony’s PlayStation support FAQ states that PC and console versions of PlayStation Studios games are separate products and that it is not currently possible to buy one version and play it on the other platform. That policy concerns Sony’s official releases; it does not determine whether a PS5 executable happens to work through AnyPS5.

Owning a PS5 game therefore does not, by itself, establish that you own a PC license or that an official PC build exists. The compatibility-table check answers a narrower technical question: whether AnyPS5 has documented that particular PS5 executable working on a particular host platform.

Common mistakes that produce a false “yes”

  • Relying on a video title: a video may show only a boot screen or a short demonstration.
  • Using a general project progress page: implementation progress is not a per-game compatibility result.
  • Ignoring the operating system: Windows and Linux entries must be read independently.
  • Skipping the title ID: similarly named editions can be different executables.
  • Reading “in game” as “finished”: the report may cover only a limited section.
  • Promoting test hardware to a requirement: one row cannot define a minimum specification for every title.
  • Assuming old status is current: project builds, drivers and game patches change the result.
  • Counting listed games as a success rate: no verified population statistic is established by the table.

A practical decision rule

Call a game documented as playable only when the exact title or title ID has a playable status for your operating system and the report’s build and setup are close enough to your planned environment to be meaningful. Call it partially demonstrated when it launches, renders or reaches limited gameplay without a playable designation. Call it unconfirmed when the platform is marked “?” or the title is absent. Keep those labels separate in your notes so that a promising technical demonstration does not become an unsupported purchase or hardware decision.

Keeping your answer current

Before installing a new AnyPS5 build, applying a major game patch or changing operating systems, check the live compatibility table again. Save the report’s status, title ID, platform, test hardware, project build and known issues together. If the table changes, replace the old conclusion rather than combining two incompatible test contexts.

The AnyPS5 README describes the project as intended for “interoperability, research, preservation, and compatibility purposes.” That wording explains why its compatibility list is a record of ongoing technical testing, not a guarantee equivalent to an official PC release or a universal hardware certification.
