Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Apple Home does not provide a universal screen for checking or enrolling third-party Matter accessories in beta firmware. To find out whether your device qualifies, check the accessory maker’s app and official support information for its exact model and hardware revision. Matter compatibility alone does not mean beta updates are available.
Where to check for beta firmware
- Identify the exact accessory. Note its brand, model number, and hardware revision, if listed on the device, packaging, or in the manufacturer’s app. Eligibility can depend on the specific model or revision.
- Open the manufacturer’s app. Look for the accessory’s firmware or software update page, beta or preview enrollment, and any eligibility message. Apple directs users to the manufacturer’s app for firmware updates. Apple Support’s troubleshooting guidance says: “The accessory may need a firmware update. Download the manufacturer’s app for the accessory and install the latest firmware.”
- Check official, model-specific material. Search the manufacturer’s support page, manual, release notes, and beta-program help using the exact model and revision. Apple’s Home setup guidance recommends checking the manual or manufacturer for accessory-specific requirements, including updates or setup in the maker’s app.
- Ask the manufacturer if the answer is unclear. Give support the model and hardware revision. Ask whether that unit is eligible, whether enrollment is open in your region, how to join, and whether installation works while the device is paired with Apple Home.
What Apple Home can—and cannot—tell you
Apple’s Home support instructions point users to manufacturers for accessory firmware. For accessories that are not responding, Apple likewise recommends checking the maker’s app for firmware updates; see Apple’s troubleshooting steps. These are general firmware-support instructions, not a beta enrollment flow in Apple Home.

Apple explains how to add and manage Matter accessories, but its Matter pairing and management guidance does not provide a cross-manufacturer list of beta programs or eligibility. Some Thread-based accessories may also require an update from their manufacturer, as Apple notes in its Home setup guide.

Matter compatibility is not beta eligibility
A Matter accessory appearing in Apple Home confirms that it can be paired and managed in that context; it does not establish that its manufacturer offers beta firmware, or that your particular unit can install it. Treat compatibility and beta access as separate questions: first, does the device work with Apple Home? Second, does its manufacturer currently offer a beta for this exact model and hardware revision?

What to confirm before enrolling
Beta programs differ by manufacturer, and Apple’s guidance does not establish their terms. Before joining, verify the details directly with the maker:
- Which models and hardware revisions qualify.
- Whether enrollment is available in your country or region.
- How to enroll and install the update.
- Whether you can leave the program or revert to production firmware.
- Whether beta firmware changes support options or the accessory’s operation with Apple Home.
If the app and official documentation do not answer these questions, contact the manufacturer rather than assuming that pairing success means the accessory is eligible.
