A hotel sale or management change does not, by itself, tell you whether your individual reservation is still active. Check with both the property and the channel you booked through, and ask each to confirm the reservation’s status and terms in writing before you cancel, rebook, or accept a change.
What an ownership change does—and does not—tell you
There is no universal rule established here that guarantees every reservation will transfer unchanged whenever a hotel is sold or changes management. The available policies are specific to a booking platform or property, so verify your own record rather than infer its status from the ownership announcement.

For Agoda bookings, Agoda’s partner guidance says, “All confirmed bookings must be honored by either the new or old management,” and describes how management should coordinate pending reservations during a transition. A property-specific example is MGM’s FAQ for The Reserve at Park MGM, which says existing bookings for the NoMad Las Vegas rebrand would be honored at the booked rate: MGM’s FAQ for The Reserve at Park MGM. That statement applies to the transition covered by the FAQ, not to other properties.

Who to contact depends on where you booked

For direct bookings, Hilton describes online and app management tools. Marriott says most reservations can be changed or canceled online or in its app within the hotel’s cancellation window, but some changes—including certain guest-name changes—require contacting the hotel or a reservation associate. Follow the rules attached to your booking rather than assuming every change can be made online: Hilton Help Center: reservations and Marriott reservation changes and cancellations.
For third-party reservations, Hilton’s help page states: “Reservations booked through third parties can’t be adjusted by Hilton. You’ll need to contact the third-party directly.” This explains why the property’s answer and the channel’s answer may need to be checked separately.

How to verify the reservation step by step
- Gather the original confirmation. Note the confirmation or itinerary number, guest name, stay dates, room type, rate, cancellation terms, and whether payment has already been collected or is due at the property. These details help both parties locate and compare the booking.
- Contact the property using its current official contact details. Ask whether the reservation is active in its current system and whether the dates, room, rate, and key terms match your confirmation. Request an email or message confirming the answer. MGM’s rebrand FAQ is an example of a property giving guests a direct contact for transition questions.
- Contact the booking channel. Give it the same confirmation number and dates. Ask it to verify that the reservation remains confirmed and whether the property has acknowledged it. This step is especially important for an intermediary booking, since the hotel brand may not be able to change or administer that record.
- Keep the records together. Save the original confirmation, any updated itinerary, and written replies from both parties. If one side cannot find the booking, ask each to state what record it can see and who will correct any mismatch.
- Get options before making a change. If the parties cannot confirm the stay, ask the booking channel what options it can offer and review the original payment and cancellation terms before voluntarily canceling, rebooking, or accepting changed dates or terms.
If the hotel and booking channel disagree
Ask the party whose answer conflicts with the original confirmation to explain the discrepancy in writing. If the property says it cannot honor or locate the stay, ask the booking channel to document its position and explain its process for a confirmed booking that cannot be accommodated. Keep the replies and original itinerary so the parties can compare the same details.
