AMD now calls FSR 4 FSR Upscaling. Its current overview lists Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 graphics for machine-learning-based FSR Upscaling, but AMD’s Adrenalin software documentation also says the desktop driver does not support handheld gaming devices. Therefore, a Ryzen processor, an older FSR option, or a generic “FSR” menu entry cannot by itself prove compatibility.
No checked AMD page confirms a particular handheld model as compatible. Treat a model-level claim as unverified unless the handheld manufacturer or AMD explicitly documents it. Use the process below to establish what your hardware, game and software actually support.

What “FSR 4 support” actually requires
“Supports FSR 4” can describe several different situations, and they are not equivalent. A reliable check separates the following gates:

- Graphics hardware: the handheld must have a GPU generation that AMD lists for ML-based FSR Upscaling.
- Game integration: the specific game must include FSR Upscaling natively or qualify for AMD’s applicable driver-upgrade path.
- Handheld software: the device’s operating system, manufacturer driver package and update channel must expose the feature. A desktop Radeon driver procedure is not proof that the same procedure works on a handheld.
If any one of these checks fails, the device may still run the game and may still offer an older FSR mode or Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), but that is not the same as confirmed FSR 4 support.

AMD’s current name and hardware list
AMD’s current FSR Technologies overview says that “FSR 4 has been renamed FSR Upscaling to better distinguish between the various features that now make up FSR ‘Redstone’.” When you search a handheld’s specifications or a game’s update notes, look for both terms: FSR 4 is the older name, while FSR Upscaling is AMD’s current label.
The same overview lists Radeon RX 7000 and Radeon RX 9000 series graphics for ML-based FSR Upscaling. That is a graphics requirement, not a statement that every product containing an AMD Ryzen CPU qualifies. A handheld can use a Ryzen processor with integrated Radeon graphics from a different generation, and the CPU family name alone does not identify the GPU capability.
AMD also separates FSR Upscaling from other Redstone features. A device that meets the upscaling requirement does not automatically qualify for every feature in that broader group. Check the exact feature name rather than treating “Redstone” as a single compatibility switch.

Step 1: Identify the handheld’s exact GPU
Start with the graphics processor, not the marketing name of the handheld or its CPU. Record the complete GPU name and, if available, its architecture or series. The manufacturer’s specification page is the best starting point; confirm it in the operating system because product pages can group several configurations under one family name.
Windows Settings
- Open Settings.
- Choose System, then About, and note the processor model. This is useful context, but it is not the final graphics answer.
- Open System and choose Display, then Advanced display. Follow the adapter or display-information link shown for the active display and record the graphics adapter name.
Windows labels can be abbreviated. If the adapter is shown only as a generic Microsoft display device, install the handheld maker’s graphics package or use the next method before drawing a conclusion.
Device Manager
- Right-click the Start button and open Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Copy the complete adapter name. If more than one adapter appears, identify which one is the integrated GPU used for the handheld’s display and games.
Do not infer a GPU series from a Ryzen number. The processor name can help you find the manufacturer’s specification page, but only the graphics-adapter entry establishes which GPU is installed.

DirectX Diagnostic Tool
- Press Windows + R, enter
dxdiag, and press Enter. - Open the Display or Render tab, depending on the Windows build.
- Record the device name and driver provider. Save the report if you need to send the details to the handheld maker.
Keep the exact text, including suffixes and numbers. “Radeon Graphics” without a series designation is insufficient to match AMD’s FSR Upscaling list.

Step 2: Match the GPU to AMD’s current FSR page
Compare the recorded GPU with AMD’s current FSR Technologies overview. The page’s stated hardware scope for ML-based FSR Upscaling is Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 graphics. Use the following interpretation:

AMD describes FSR Upscaling as available in more than 300 supported games. That is AMD’s current stated count, not a permanent or independently verified catalog. The supported-games list can change, so check the live list and the game’s current release notes when making a decision.
Step 3: Check the game, not just the handheld
Even qualifying hardware cannot force FSR Upscaling into every game. The title must expose the technology through its own rendering integration or through an AMD-supported driver path.
Native in-game integration
Open the game’s graphics or display settings and look for a precise label such as FSR Upscaling or FSR 4. Some games place it under an upscaling selector alongside other technologies. Record the game version and the exact label; a menu entry that says only “FSR” does not identify the generation.

Driver-upgrade path for eligible integrations
AMD describes a driver-upgrade path for some games with qualifying FSR 3.1-or-higher integrations. This does not mean every FSR 3.1 game automatically becomes an FSR Upscaling game on every device. Confirm all of the following:
- The title appears on AMD’s supported-games information.
- The game’s implementation meets the version requirement AMD specifies.
- The handheld’s manufacturer supplies a compatible driver or update route.
- The game’s current menu or update notes identify the resulting FSR Upscaling mode.
Use a three-way game result

Step 4: Account for handheld driver support
AMD’s Adrenalin 25.4.1 release notes state: “AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition does not include support for handheld gaming devices.” This is the most important handheld-specific caveat. A desktop Radeon installation guide cannot be used as proof that a handheld supports FSR Upscaling.
Handhelds commonly depend on a manufacturer-customized graphics package, a Windows Update delivery channel, or a device-specific control center. Those packages can lag behind desktop releases or expose a different feature set. Do not replace the manufacturer’s driver with a generic desktop package merely to obtain an FSR option; doing so can remove device controls or create an unsupported configuration.
How to verify the software path
- Open the handheld maker’s support page for the exact model and hardware configuration.
- Read the graphics-driver release notes and supported-feature list. Search for both “FSR 4” and “FSR Upscaling.”
- Check the device control center for a driver version and update mechanism.
- Install only the driver package recommended for that model, then restart the handheld.
- Recheck the game’s graphics menu after the update. A driver version number alone is not confirmation unless the maker documents the feature or the game exposes the named mode.
If the maker does not mention FSR Upscaling, ask support for a written answer using the exact GPU, operating-system build, driver version and game name. “AMD graphics supported” is too broad; request confirmation of ML-based FSR Upscaling specifically.
FSR, FSR 4, FSR Upscaling and RSR are different
These names are often mixed together in handheld menus, reviews and forum posts. Use them precisely:

RSR can make a game look as though it is being upscaled by AMD, but it does not prove that the game supports FSR Upscaling. Conversely, a game’s native FSR option does not prove that RSR is enabled.

A complete compatibility check you can repeat
- Write down the model: include the exact handheld model, memory configuration if the maker distinguishes versions, Windows edition and graphics-driver version.
- Identify the GPU: use the maker’s specifications and verify the adapter name in Device Manager or
dxdiag. - Match the series: compare the GPU with AMD’s current RX 7000/RX 9000 listing for ML-based FSR Upscaling.
- Check the title: consult AMD’s supported-games information and the game’s current graphics menu or update notes.
- Determine the route: decide whether the game uses native integration or an AMD driver-upgrade path.
- Validate the handheld package: confirm that the manufacturer supports the required graphics driver and feature on that exact model.
- Test the label: launch the game, enable the explicitly named FSR Upscaling/FSR 4 mode, apply the setting and restart the game if requested.
- Document the result: save screenshots of the GPU name, driver version and in-game option. This prevents a later update or reset from making the result impossible to reproduce.
Common false positives and how to resolve them
“It has a Ryzen chip, so it must support FSR 4.”
Ryzen identifies the processor family, not the exact graphics hardware. Return to the Display adapters entry and identify the GPU series before deciding.
“The game has an FSR switch, so that is FSR 4.”
Read the full option label and check the game version. Generic FSR controls can refer to earlier implementations. Only an explicit FSR 4 or FSR Upscaling label, or documented AMD support for the qualifying path, establishes the newer feature.
“A desktop Adrenalin installer detects the handheld.”
Detection is not support. AMD’s 25.4.1 notes exclude handheld gaming devices from Adrenalin support. Use the handheld manufacturer’s driver channel and ask for model-specific confirmation.
“RSR is enabled, so FSR 4 is working.”
RSR is a separate driver-based feature. Disable it temporarily, then inspect the game’s own upscaling setting to determine which technology is actually active.
“The option disappeared after an update.”
Record the new driver and game versions, then check the maker’s release notes and the game’s settings reset. A feature can be removed, renamed or hidden by an update; do not assume the old label still means the same thing.

Use a feature-by-feature comparison rather than choosing the device with the newer CPU branding. A useful comparison sheet has these columns:

If a cell cannot be established from the maker, AMD or the game itself, mark it not stated rather than treating an assumption as compatibility. This is especially important for handhelds whose integrated graphics are not identified as an RX 7000 or RX 9000 product.
What a confirmed and an unconfirmed result look like
Confirmed for a particular game
You can describe support as confirmed only when the exact GPU falls within AMD’s listed hardware scope, the handheld maker supports the required driver path, and the game exposes FSR Upscaling/FSR 4 through native integration or an explicitly supported upgrade route. Keep the claim tied to that game, driver and device configuration.
Hardware-eligible but not confirmed
If the GPU matches AMD’s list but the maker does not document handheld support, report the result as hardware-eligible but unconfirmed. The missing software evidence matters because AMD’s desktop Adrenalin package is not a supported handheld path.

If the game offers an earlier FSR mode or the device offers RSR, state that narrower capability. It may still improve performance or image quality, but it should not be labeled FSR 4.
Keep the result current
AMD’s naming, supported-game catalog and driver policies can change. Recheck the current FSR Technologies overview, supported-games information, the handheld maker’s support page and the game’s release notes after a major driver or game update. A result recorded for one driver and game version is not a permanent guarantee for every future version.
