A low price alone does not prove a deal is fraudulent, and a clean IMEI result does not certify every part of the offer.
Check the offer details before you pay
Compare the listing against the phone you intend to buy. Record the offer details, such as with a screenshot, so you can refer to the terms shown when you ordered.

- Exact device: Match the brand, model number, RAM and storage, colour, and network variant. Similar model names can refer to different configurations.
- Condition and contents: Check whether the phone is listed as new, refurbished, or open-box, and what accessories are included.
- Seller and feedback: Note the seller’s name and read recent feedback about that item. Ratings can inform your judgment but are not proof of authenticity.
- Warranty and returns: Read the written warranty, replacement, and return terms for that specific listing. Do not assume a universal return window or an easy return for every phone.
- Invoice and final price: Confirm invoice availability and compare the total payable amount, including any charges. A discount percentage by itself is not a safety test.
Flipkart’s Seller Terms of Use make sellers responsible for product authenticity and accurate listings, but Flipkart says it does not warrant that listing descriptions or other content are accurate, complete, reliable, current, or error-free. For that reason, check the offer rather than treating the platform or a seller rating as a guarantee.
Check the IMEI using the government service
The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) is a 15-digit identifier for an individual mobile device. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) says it may appear on the phone’s packaging and invoice; on a handset, dial *#06# to display it. Dual-SIM phones have two IMEIs, so check both where applicable.

- Get the number. If the seller can provide it before purchase, use the IMEI for the exact handset being offered. Otherwise, check the device as soon as it arrives, before relying on it or completing setup. You can also use the IMEI printed on the box or invoice.
- Submit it to CEIR. Send an SMS in the format
KYM 123456789012345—replace the example with the handset’s 15-digit IMEI—to14422. Alternatively, use the official CEIR IMEI verification service, available through the government’s Sanchar Saathi portal. - Compare the result. CEIR returns manufacturer, device type, brand, and model information. Check it against the listing, box, and handset.
- Do not buy if the status is flagged. The DoT advises buyers to avoid a handset reported as black-listed, duplicate, or already in use. Do not proceed just because a seller says the mismatch or status is harmless.
Use the official service as the authority for this check, rather than relying on an unrelated third-party IMEI checker.
Understand what an IMEI result can and cannot tell you
A CEIR lookup is a screening check: it can help confirm that device details align and reveal the listed status. It is not an all-purpose authenticity certificate. A matching result does not establish that the seller is authorised, the listing is accurate, the phone is factory-sealed or unused, or that its warranty will be honoured.

Where possible, verify warranty coverage and the seller’s status through the phone maker’s official India channel. The order’s written terms—not the IMEI result—are what you should consult for return or replacement conditions.

- Exact model and storage configuration
- New, refurbished, or open-box condition
- Named seller and item-specific feedback
- Manufacturer warranty and whether it applies in India
- Written return or replacement terms and invoice availability
- IMEI consistency, once the identifier is available
- Final price, including charges, and any delivery or inspection conditions
There is no established universal discount threshold at which a Flipkart phone deal becomes unsafe. Treat an unusually low price as a reason to check the details carefully, not as proof of fraud.
