Compatibility is not determined by the words “DLSS mod” or by owning an RTX card. Identify the exact DLSS feature the mod changes, record your GPU, game build, graphics API, driver and Windows version, then compare that combination with the maintainer’s current requirements. NVIDIA’s documentation makes clear that DLSS libraries and options are integrated per game and can change with a title’s update level. If the maintainer does not name your exact game build and feature/GPU combination, treat support as unverified rather than assuming it works.
What “compatible” actually means
A mod can be compatible at one layer and fail at another. A GPU may contain hardware capable of a DLSS feature, while the game lacks the buffers, hooks or library version that the mod expects. A game may be on a supported list but have a newer executable, different renderer or changed anti-tamper files. A successful installation also does not prove that the intended feature is active.

Check four separate layers:
- Feature layer: Super Resolution (SR), Frame Generation (FG), Multi Frame Generation (MFG), Ray Reconstruction (RR), DLAA, or a shared Streamline/DLL component.
- Hardware layer: your precise GPU model and generation, not merely “RTX.”
- Integration layer: the exact game, executable build, graphics API and in-game settings.
- Software layer: Windows version, display-driver version, mod version, installation path and any stated conflicts.
Only when all four layers line up should you call the mod supported. “It launches” is a weaker result: the mod could be ignored, partially loaded or producing an unintended rendering path.
First identify the DLSS feature the mod changes
DLSS features do not share one compatibility rule. Read the mod description, release notes and installation files to determine what it replaces, unlocks or injects.

Do not treat “DLSS 4,” “DLSS DLL swap” or “frame-generation unlock” as interchangeable labels. Ask which feature is changed before comparing hardware requirements.
Record the exact system and game combination
Write down the values before downloading or installing anything. This prevents a common mistake: comparing the mod with a GPU family or game name while overlooking the build number or renderer.
GPU model and generation
Record the full model shown by Windows, the NVIDIA App or your system information utility—for example, the exact RTX model and laptop or desktop variant. Generation matters because NVIDIA’s documented MFG support is specific to RTX 50 Series, while its DLSS 4 integration article describes updated FG for RTX 50 and RTX 40 Series. Do not infer support for an older generation from a similar product name.
Operating system and driver
Record the Windows edition and build from Settings → System → About. Record the display-driver version from the NVIDIA App or Windows’ display-adapter properties. If you use a non-NVIDIA GPU, do not assume that a mod requiring NVIDIA DLSS can operate simply because the game has a similarly named option.

Game build and graphics API
Use the launcher’s update history, the game’s main-menu version display or the executable’s file details to capture the exact build. Also note whether the game is running DirectX 11, DirectX 12 or Vulkan. A mod author may support one executable revision or renderer and not another, even when the title name is identical.
Mod identity
Record the mod name, release version or commit date, download package version and any optional files you selected. Keep the original files and note the installation directory. If the package includes separate files for DX11, DX12, Vulkan, SR, FG or another feature, the selected file is part of the compatibility record.
- GPU model and generation
- Windows edition and build
- Driver version
- Game name, executable build and renderer
- Mod version and feature changed
- Current in-game DLSS, ray-tracing and frame-generation settings
Read the maintainer’s support information precisely
The mod’s current instructions are the primary source for third-party compatibility. Look for a maintained game list, version notes and issue reports rather than relying on a video, forum comment or a list made for an older release.

The entry should identify the game executable or build range. “Works with the game” is insufficient when the title has received patches, a new launcher version or a renderer update. If your build is not named, classify it as unverified until the maintainer confirms it.

Check the renderer and feature
Find whether the package expects DX11, DX12 or Vulkan, and whether it changes SR, FG, MFG, RR, DLAA or a shared component. A mod aimed at one renderer can fail silently when placed in another executable’s directory.
Check prerequisites and settings
Copy every stated prerequisite into your checklist: a minimum driver, Windows build, hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, a particular in-game option, a launch argument, or a required companion file. Distinguish “required” from “recommended.” If the instructions do not specify a prerequisite, do not invent one from a different mod.
Check installation, conflicts and rollback
Confirm the exact directory, file names and load order. Look for warnings about other proxy DLLs, overlays or earlier versions of the same library. A responsible package explains how to restore the original files or remove the mod. Make a backup before replacing anything so that a failed test does not require reinstalling the whole game.

Read the latest release date, changelog and open issue activity. A game may have become incompatible after a patch even if an older release page still says “working.” Lack of a recent confirmation is not proof of failure, but it lowers confidence and should be reported as unverified.

Match the feature with NVIDIA’s documented requirements
Official NVIDIA information helps you reject impossible combinations, but it does not certify a third-party mod. Use the following boundaries as feature-specific checks.

NVIDIA also distinguishes native DLSS from driver-based Smooth Motion. Seeing a Smooth Motion control or another driver feature does not prove that a native DLSS mod is loaded.

- Back up the original files. Copy every file the installer will replace and save the mod’s removal instructions. Record the game build and current settings.
- Install only the package for your renderer and feature. Do not mix DX11, DX12, Vulkan, SR and FG variants unless the maintainer explicitly instructs you to do so.
- Launch the named game build. Start the exact executable listed by the maintainer. Check whether the game reaches the menu and whether the expected DLSS option appears.
- Enable the feature in the documented order. Some packages require the native game option first, while others expose a new setting or configuration entry. Follow the package instructions rather than copying a sequence from another title.
- Check the mod’s own log or status display. Look for a successful library load, the detected renderer and any error code. A missing log entry or a fallback to the original library means the test has not demonstrated compatibility.
- Test in a repeatable scene. Use the same save or benchmark path before and after installation. Check that the intended feature is active, not merely that the game runs.
- Use NVIDIA App statistics only for what they document. In compatible titles, the app’s in-game statistics view can display the status of an NVIDIA DLSS override. That indicator verifies the documented NVIDIA override state; it does not certify that an unrelated third-party mod is safe, correctly installed or fully compatible.
- Restore the backup after a failed test. Remove the mod, verify the original files and retest the unmodified game. This separates a mod problem from a pre-existing game or driver problem.
Troubleshoot by symptom

How to compare two DLSS mods
If more than one package claims to solve the same problem, compare evidence rather than download counts or screenshots.

If one mod names your build and provides a rollback path while another makes only a broad “DLSS” claim, the first has the stronger compatibility case—even if neither can guarantee results on an unlisted patch.
Classify the result honestly
Confirmed by the available information
Use this label only when the mod’s current notes name the same feature, game build, renderer and GPU class, your OS and driver meet the stated prerequisites, and an in-game or log check confirms that the component loaded.
Not confirmed
Use this when the mod works on the game but does not identify your build, when the GPU requirement is vague, or when the feature and renderer are unclear. Similar hardware, a neighboring game version or an RTX badge is not enough evidence.
Incompatible
Use this when a documented requirement cannot be met—for example, an MFG package requiring RTX 50 Series on an older generation—or when the maintainer explicitly excludes your build, API or operating-system configuration.
