It does not tell you whether you have found a good game for your tastes, whether the price is unusually low, or whether a cartridge is better value. Before buying, verify the exact Nintendo eShop listing, check regional price history, read reviews for your particular needs, compare an equivalent physical copy, and confirm that your console can download and store the game.

- Identify the exact product: game, platform, edition, bundle, language, age rating and player modes.
- Confirm what the discount means: compare the current regional price with previous sales and the historical low.
- Test the fit: read review details about genre, difficulty, performance and solo or multiplayer play, rather than relying on one score.
- Compare formats: if a cartridge exists, compare the same game and edition with the digital offer.
- Check download readiness: make sure your internet connection and available storage meet Nintendo’s requirements.
This routine matters most because Nintendo Support’s US/Americas guidance says: “We are unable to provide refunds or exchanges for mistaken purchases.” That statement is regional guidance, not a universal rule for every country or circumstance, so check the policy for your own Nintendo account region.
Confirm the exact eShop listing
Many disappointing “deals” are not bad games; they are the wrong edition, a DLC add-on, or a bundle whose contents were misunderstood. Open the full Nintendo listing instead of buying from a sale tile alone.
#1 Best Overall
- Jump through a colorful world and give attacks some extra oomph in battle!
- Explore the vibrant environments with your party and jump towards your next goal!
- Run into monsters to enter turn-based battles with your party of three.
- Press the button at the right time for a satisfying dose of extra damage or helpful guard.
Check the title, platform and edition
- Match the full game name, including subtitles and version labels.
- Confirm that the listing is for Nintendo Switch, not a soundtrack, demo, trial, DLC pack or another platform.
- Look for “Deluxe,” “Complete,” “Gold,” expansion-pass and bundle wording. A cheaper standard edition may omit content you expected, while a bundle may duplicate DLC you already own.
- Check whether the listing is a pre-order, cloud version or download code rather than a standard install.
Read the description and screenshots
Nintendo’s purchasing guidance recommends reviewing the description and screenshots before buying. Use them to answer practical questions: Is the game a turn-based RPG, a real-time action title, a puzzle game or something else? Does it show local co-op, online play or only single-player scenes? Do the screenshots indicate text-heavy menus, split-screen play or an art style you dislike?
Verify language, age rating and players
- Language: confirm that the spoken and written languages you need are supported in your region’s listing. A game can be playable in English while offering menus or subtitles in fewer languages than expected.
- Age rating: check the rating authority and content descriptors shown for your market.
- Players: distinguish single-player, local multiplayer and online multiplayer. An online mode may require a separate Nintendo Switch Online membership, while local play can require extra controllers or consoles.
Separate the base game from DLC
Read the purchase button and product description carefully. Expansion packs, cosmetic packs and season passes can appear beside the base game during a sale. If you want the complete experience, write down exactly which items are included and compare that total with a complete-edition listing. If you only want the base game, do not assume a discounted add-on includes it.
Check the current price against regional history
The percentage shown on a sale tile compares the sale price with a list price. Price history supplies the missing context: whether this is an unusually low price or a routine promotion that returns frequently.
Record the numbers that matter
| Value | What to record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Current price | Your Nintendo account region and currency | Prices and sale schedules differ by region. |
| Previous sale prices | Several earlier discounts, not just one | Shows whether the present offer is typical. |
| Historical low | Lowest recorded price in that region | Shows how much room there has been below today’s price. |
| Date of the low | When that lowest price occurred | A very old low may be less useful than a recent pattern. |
| Sale end date | The deadline displayed by Nintendo | Prevents an expired tracker listing from driving your decision. |
NTPrices describes itself as an independent, unofficial tracker that follows regional prices and history. Its guide was updated on 2026-08-29. Treat tracker data as a comparison aid, then confirm the final amount and end date on Nintendo eShop; the tracker itself says its feature descriptions are its own claims, and live prices change.
Interpret an “all-time low” label correctly
An all-time-low badge is evidence about price, not quality. Before treating it as a reason to buy, ask three questions:
Rank #2
- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
- How old is the game? A new title with one brief low has a different buying case from an older title that reaches the same price every few months.
- Who publishes it? Publisher sale patterns affect how often a price may return, but a publisher name alone does not establish that a game is good or bad.
- How recent was the low? If the record low happened long ago, today’s offer may still be attractive. If it happened recently and repeatedly, waiting may be reasonable if you have other games to play.
Do not turn the historical low into a prediction. A tracker cannot guarantee that Nintendo will repeat a price or say when the next sale will occur.
Keep regions consistent
Compare the price history for the same Nintendo account region in which you will purchase. A US listing, a European listing and another country’s eShop can have different currencies, taxes, sale dates and historical lows. Do not combine a foreign low with your local current price and call the difference a saving.
Recommended Free Tools
Read reviews for fit, not for a magic score
Nintendo encourages shoppers to consult game reviews. Third-party comparison pages such as PSPrices can display Metacritic and OpenCritic scores and provide rating filters. Those scores are useful screening tools, but the available sources do not establish a universal passing score.
Translate a score into your own requirements
After noting the overall consensus, search reviews for the issues that could make or break your purchase:
- Genre and pacing: Does the game stay within the style you enjoy, or does it change into a different type of challenge after the opening hours?
- Difficulty and accessibility: Is there an adjustable difficulty, assist mode, remapping, subtitle control or other option you need?
- Performance: Look for specific discussion of frame-rate stability, loading, crashes, text size and handheld versus docked play. Do not infer Switch performance from a review of another platform.
- Solo and multiplayer use: Determine whether the campaign works offline, whether co-op is local or online, and whether the player population or matchmaking is described as active.
- Length and repetition: A short, focused campaign can be excellent value for one reader and poor value for another. Check whether replay value comes from new content, difficulty modes or repetitive grinding.
Use more than one kind of review
Read at least one detailed professional review and several owner comments that address your specific concern. Professional scores help identify broad consensus; owner reports can reveal interface problems, online activity or a late-game issue. Treat anecdotal comments as individual experiences rather than proof that every player will see the same result.
Rank #3
- The galaxy is yours with Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Play all nine saga films and experience fun filled adventure in a galaxy far, far away
- Play through all nine films in a new, fun filled adventure
Do not use a score cutoff such as “buy anything above X.” A lower-scoring game can be an excellent match for a narrow audience, while a highly rated game can fail your preferred genre, difficulty or multiplayer requirement.

Compare a cartridge with the digital sale
A discounted download is not automatically the cheapest or most flexible way to own a Switch game. When a physical edition exists, compare it separately; price-comparison services list physical Switch games and eShop offers as different products.
| Comparison point | Digital eShop copy | Physical cartridge |
|---|---|---|
| Price to compare | Current regional eShop price, including any displayed tax | Current price for the identical game and edition from a legitimate retailer |
| Storage | Requires console or microSD space for the download | Uses the cartridge for the main software, though some games still require downloads |
| Convenience | Switch games without swapping cartridges | Requires carrying and inserting the cartridge |
| Ownership format | Linked to the purchasing Nintendo account | Physical item that can be lent or resold subject to local rules and condition |
| Edition match | Verify standard, deluxe or bundle contents in the eShop listing | Verify that the box and cartridge contain the same edition and included DLC |
Make the comparison like-for-like
- Write down the digital listing’s exact title and edition.
- Find a physical listing with the same title, region where relevant and included content.
- Check whether the cartridge requires a separate download or has an online-only component.
- Include delivery fees, taxes and any required accessories in the physical total.
- Choose digital only when its convenience, immediate access or price advantage outweighs the cartridge’s benefits for you.
Availability varies by title and edition. If no equivalent cartridge is currently available, mark the physical option as unavailable rather than comparing the download with a different edition.
Check download, storage and account requirements
Nintendo purchasing guidance says the console needs an active internet connection for automatic download and sufficient storage. That guidance was surfaced in a Spanish-language Nintendo support result and should be verified against the local Nintendo support page for your region before purchase.
Before you pay
- Connect the Switch to a reliable internet connection and confirm that the console can reach Nintendo’s services.
- Check free space in System Settings and compare it with the game’s stated download size. Leave additional room for updates and save-data management rather than planning to use every free byte.
- Decide whether you will install to internal storage or a compatible microSD card, and check that the card is inserted and recognized.
- Keep the console powered or docked if you expect a large automatic download.
Understand what the size number does not tell you
The listed download size is not a promise that no later update will be needed. A cartridge can also require patches or additional content. If storage is tight, include those possibilities in your decision and identify a game or recording you could remove without losing important data.

- MULTIPLE WAYS TO PLAY: Gather with friends and play local split-screen in Grand Prix and the new party mode Race Park, compete against a community of players from around the world with up to 12 players online in World Match, or test your driving skills in Time Trials.
Use a clear buy, wait or skip rule
Once you have the facts, make the decision explicit instead of letting the discount percentage decide for you.
| Outcome | Use it when | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Buy now | The exact edition fits your needs, the regional price is compelling against history, reviews address your requirements positively, and storage and download conditions are ready. | Recheck the final listing, price and included content immediately before confirming. |
| Wait | The game fits, but the current price is routine, the record low was recent, or you are not ready to install it. | Set your own reminder to revisit the eShop; do not assume a tracker can predict the next sale. |
| Skip | The listing is the wrong edition, reviews identify a deal-breaking issue, no suitable storage or connection is available, or the comparable physical option is clearly better for your priorities. | Remove it from your cart and avoid a mistaken digital purchase. |
A practical scoring worksheet
Write one sentence for each category, then make a decision only after all five are complete:
- Fit: “This matches my preferred genre, difficulty and player mode because …”
- Price: “The current regional price is [above, near or below] its usual sale range because …”
- Evidence: “Reviews specifically support or warn about my most important requirement …”
- Format: “Digital is preferable to an equivalent cartridge because …”
- Readiness: “I have the required connection, storage and account region …”
If you cannot complete one line without guessing, that missing fact is a reason to pause, not a reason to assume the discount is worth it.
Common traps and how to avoid them
Confusing a discount with value
A large percentage off a high list price can still be more expensive than a smaller discount seen previously. Use the historical prices, not the badge size, as your reference.
Buying DLC instead of the game
Check the product type and included contents directly above the purchase control. Expansion and cosmetic listings can be discounted alongside the base game.

Comparing the wrong editions
Standard, deluxe and complete versions can contain different content. Match edition names before comparing either price or reviews.
Using another region’s price history
Regional histories are not interchangeable. Set the tracker and Nintendo account to the same market.
Treating one score as a guarantee
Scores compress many opinions into one number. Read the underlying comments for performance, accessibility, difficulty and multiplayer conditions that matter to you.
Ignoring the no-refund risk
Nintendo’s US/Americas support statement specifically addresses mistaken digital purchases. Confirm the title and edition before authorizing payment, and consult your own region’s policy rather than assuming another market’s rule applies.
