Check the exact game, platform, mode, and add-on
Start by identifying the specific Call of Duty title and platform, whether you plan to use the add-on online or offline, and exactly what the tool or device does. A rule for one title or mode does not establish permission in another. The current policy’s stated scope is Call of Duty titles beginning with Modern Warfare (2019) and later titles on console and PC.

The policy is a broad set of rules and examples, not a public whitelist that confirms the status of every third-party file or peripheral. Do not assume that the label “mod” automatically makes a tool allowed—or that a tutorial or seller’s claim makes it authorized.

Read Activision’s current rules
- Open the enforcement policy. Read the current Call of Duty Security and Enforcement Policy and check whether it covers your title and platform. Activision’s policy was updated on July 31, 2026.
- Check the game’s license and Activision’s Terms of Use. Review the applicable Software License and Service Agreement for your game, along with the Activision Terms of Use. Look for provisions about authorization, modifications, third-party software, game data, and peripherals. The specific game agreement and applicable updated terms matter.
- Match the wording to the add-on’s actual behavior. Determine whether it changes files or memory, automates actions, exposes hidden information, alters stats or unlocks, or modifies input in a way that creates an unfair advantage. Assess what the tool does, not just what it is called.
- Ask Activision Support if authorization is unclear. Do not use an ambiguous add-on unless official materials clearly authorize it. Ask about the exact title, platform, mode, and tool rather than relying on a general answer about “mods.”
Which add-ons are warning signs?
Activision says that unauthorized code or software connected with a game can be sanctionable when it changes or facilitates gameplay, manipulates stats or game data, or provides an unfair advantage. The policy lists examples including aimbots, wallhacks, trainers, stats hacks, texture hacks, leaderboard hacks, injectors, and input-mapping software used to modify game data.

It also identifies unsupported external hardware or applications, including unapproved input-modification devices and modded controllers, when used for cheating. The key issue is how a tool or device is used and whether it is authorized; do not treat a seller’s description as confirmation that it complies with the rules.
Activision separately lists conduct such as boosting, circumventing security, reverse engineering, glitching, spoofing, and improperly obtaining downloadable or unlockable content. Its policy warns that anything suggesting memory alteration on a console or PC to acquire gear, items, loadouts, or other game content is considered cheating. Avoid services or tutorials promising altered camos, unlocks, loadouts, or similar content through memory manipulation.

What can happen if an add-on breaks the rules?
Depending on the conduct, its severity, and its frequency, Activision says penalties can include warnings, temporary or permanent bans, restrictions, inventory or stat corrections, and hardware bans. Active account enforcement can apply across linked devices. Activision also says the account holder is responsible for infractions on the account, regardless of who was playing.

Older games and unclear cases
For a title outside the current policy’s stated scope, or for a specific offline or private configuration, consult that game’s applicable license and ask official support rather than extending the current policy to it. Activision’s historical Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare policy, dated November 21, 2019, also addressed unauthorized game-data modification and unsupported peripherals, but it is title-specific and historical: Infinite Warfare Security & Enforcement Policy.
