What a Bing local-presence check actually tells you
A Bing local search presence means Bing Maps can return a business profile for a particular location. The profile may show the business name, street address, phone number, website and other details. The practical test is location-specific: search the business name together with its complete street address in Bing Maps.

This check answers a different question from whether the company website is in Bing’s web index. A website can be indexed while the corresponding local listing is absent, and a local listing can exist even when a particular website page has an indexing problem. Treat the two checks as separate workflows.
The result you are looking for
A useful match should identify the intended business and location, not merely a similarly named company. Compare the displayed name and full address with the information you supplied. If the address is different, the result may be another branch or an unrelated business.

What the search cannot establish
Finding a listing does not tell you that it ranks for every local query, appears in every search result, or has accurate ownership information. It confirms that Bing Maps has a discoverable record for the searched location. Visibility and data accuracy require additional checks.
Step 1: Search Bing Maps with the exact name and address
- Open Bing Maps.
- Enter the business’s exact name followed by its full street address, including city, region or state, postal code and country where applicable.
- Run the search and inspect the map results and business panel.
- Compare the returned name and address with the real location. Check the phone number and website as secondary identifiers when they are displayed.
Bing Places’ FAQ recommends this name-and-address lookup because the address helps separate the intended location from businesses with similar names. Searching only a broad brand name can return another branch or an unrelated result.

Use the legal or customer-facing business name that people recognize, but do not add keywords that are not part of the name. The goal is to identify the existing record, not to test a ranking tactic.

A missing result is not proof that Bing has never received the business information; it means the intended listing was not discoverable in this lookup. Continue with the Bing Places workflow rather than assuming that the website-indexing status is relevant.

Step 2: Claim an existing listing with “Manage business”
When the correct listing appears, use the listing’s options menu. Bing’s current workflow labels the ownership entry Manage business.
- Open the options or ellipsis menu beside the business name.
- Select Manage business.
- Sign in to the Bing Places account associated with the business.
- Review the claim and verification choices Bing presents for that listing.
- Complete the available verification method and submit the requested information.
Why verification matters
Bing uses verification to establish that the person managing the profile is the authorized owner or representative. Successful verification gives the account full access and control of the listing. Bing may allow limited editing before verification, but ownership control follows the completed verification process.
Use the right account
Sign in with an account that the business can retain and audit. If an agency or employee performs the setup, document which account owns access and ensure the business can recover it. Do not claim a listing for a different branch or a similarly named company.
Step 3: Add or import a listing when none appears
If the exact name-and-address search does not find the business, use Bing Places for Business. Bing describes the service as free and designed to let businesses create listings, claim existing records and manage the details shown to searchers.

- Open Bing Places for Business and sign in.
- Choose the option to add a new business or import an existing listing.
- Enter the business name, full address and other requested profile details carefully.
- Alternatively, use the optional Google Business Profile import route if the business already maintains a profile there.
- Submit the listing and complete Bing’s verification steps.
Importing from a Google Business Profile is optional. It can reduce manual entry, but it is not a prerequisite for creating a Bing listing. Review every imported field before submission; an import does not remove the need to confirm that the Bing profile represents the correct location.
Information to check before submitting
- Business name as customers know it.
- Complete street address, including locality and postal code.
- Primary phone number.
- Official website address.
- Other requested business attributes and operating details.
Enter one real location per listing and avoid creating a duplicate simply because an existing record is difficult to find. Search again with spelling variations and the full address before adding a second record.
Step 4: Complete verification and wait for publication
Verification and publication are separate stages. Passing verification does not mean the profile will appear immediately.

Bing’s official FAQ states: “After your listing is successfully verified, it usually takes 7-12 calendar days to be published and appear live on Bing.” The figure is a usual processing window, not a guarantee of a ranking position or universal visibility. Bing also notes that additional time may be needed for details to appear across search results.

How to check during the waiting period
Use the same name-and-address query periodically rather than changing several fields at once. Record the date of verification, the exact business name and address submitted, and any status shown in Bing Places. This gives support a precise timeline if the listing remains unpublished beyond the stated window.

If Bing Maps returns the business but displays an outdated phone number, address, website or name, first obtain management access through Manage business. Then compare the profile with the business’s current, authoritative information.
Keep core details consistent
- Name: Use the current business name consistently.
- Address: Use the real street address for the location represented by the listing.
- Phone: Check that the primary number is current and reachable.
- Website: Confirm that the listed address points to the official site.
- Other fields: Review every additional detail Bing displays and update obsolete information.
Bing says it compares submitted details with information found across search engines, websites and social media. Conflicting information can therefore make it harder for Bing to determine which details are current. Align the business’s public information before or while correcting the Bing profile.

Allow time for updated details to propagate. Recheck the managed profile and Bing Maps after the change rather than repeatedly creating new listings. A duplicate listing can make the identity and location problem harder to resolve.
Bing Maps presence versus Bing website indexing
These are related to the same search engine but are not interchangeable checks.

A url: check or URL Inspection result cannot claim, create or verify a local business profile. If the local listing is missing, use Bing Places. If the website page is not indexed, use Bing Webmaster Tools’ URL-level diagnostics. Run both checks when you need to diagnose local visibility and website visibility separately.
Troubleshooting by symptom
There is no result for the exact name and address
- Confirm the address is complete and correctly spelled.
- Search again with the business’s customer-facing name and the same full address.
- If the intended location still does not appear, add or import it through Bing Places for Business.
- Complete verification and wait through the 7–12 calendar-day usual publication period.
The result is for another branch
- Compare the street address before opening any management workflow.
- Search the intended branch with its own complete address.
- Do not claim a listing whose location does not match the business location you represent.
The listing exists but the business cannot manage it
- Open the options beside the correct listing and select Manage business.
- Sign in to the Bing Places account that should own the profile.
- Follow the claim and verification choices Bing provides.
- Remember that limited edits may be available before verification, while full control follows successful verification.
The listing was verified but is not live
- Check the date verification completed.
- Allow the usual 7–12 calendar days for publication.
- Allow additional time for individual details to propagate across search results.
- If it remains unpublished after 12 calendar days, contact Bing Places support for further review.
The listing is live but details are wrong
- Review the name, address, phone number and website in Bing Places.
- Correct inconsistent information across the business’s other online channels.
- Wait for propagation and check the same Bing Maps search again.
The website is indexed but no local listing appears
This is not a contradiction. Website indexing and local listing presence are different systems. Use Bing Places to create or claim the local profile; use Bing Webmaster Tools only for the website URL’s crawl and index status.
A repeatable audit checklist
- Write down the exact business name and complete street address for the location being checked.
- Search Bing Maps using both together.
- Confirm that the returned address is the intended location.
- If the correct listing appears, open its options and select Manage business.
- Sign in to Bing Places and complete the claim and verification workflow.
- If no correct listing appears, add or import the business in Bing Places instead.
- Review the name, address, phone, website and other displayed fields for accuracy.
- After verification, allow 7–12 calendar days for usual publication.
- If the listing is still unpublished after 12 calendar days, contact Bing Places support.
- Run a separate Bing Webmaster Tools URL Inspection when the question concerns website indexing rather than a Maps listing.
What Bing’s service and timing mean for expectations
Bing Places for Business is described by Bing as a free service for claiming existing listings, creating new ones and managing displayed business details. Free access does not mean instant publication or guaranteed prominence. Verification establishes management authority; publication then proceeds through Bing’s processing and review systems.
The Bing Search Blog announced a new Bing Places for Business experience on October 3, 2025. Interface wording can change as the service evolves, but the key workflow remains the same: locate the business in Bing Maps, use Manage business for an existing record, or add/import the business through Bing Places when no correct record is present.
