To check whether a 24/7 children’s livestream is still live, open its active dashboard in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and read the Health Indicator. Then open the public watch page on another device and confirm the video moves and the audio plays. Studio reports the condition of the stream being sent to YouTube; the watch page confirms what a viewer can access. Neither check guarantees that a stream will stay available continuously.

Open the dashboard for the active livestream. Find the Health Indicator near the top of the room and read the current stream status. YouTube says the Live Dashboard and Live Control Room check for errors in the stream being sent to YouTube, and status messages can include instructions. YouTube’s live-streaming dashboard help describes the indicator and stream health.

If an alert appears, note its time and severity, follow its instructions, and check the indicator again. YouTube describes red errors as critical: they may prevent an event from starting or cause problems for viewers. Yellow errors are moderate and may reduce quality. An error that has not been fixed may continue to appear. YouTube’s stream-status guidance explains these categories.

Verify what viewers can see and hear
Open the livestream’s public watch page separately, preferably on another device. Make sure the page loads, the picture is moving rather than frozen, and audio is audible. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend checking the event through the channel and watch pages, including on mobile devices, and monitoring audio and video quality. Review YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
The two checks answer different questions: Live Control Room reports the status of the feed reaching YouTube; the public page checks the playback available to an audience. If one appears normal and the other does not, rely on the actual viewer-facing playback as well as Studio’s status message to locate the issue.

Interpret the indicators without overreading them
Viewer count is not a health check
YouTube presents concurrent viewers as real-time audience analytics and stream health separately. A low or zero concurrent-viewer count alone does not establish that the feed has stopped; it describes audience size, not whether the stream is technically healthy. YouTube’s Live Control Room help distinguishes health from analytics.

Some missing features are expected on a children’s stream
Creators set a livestream’s audience in Live Control Room. When content is marked Made for Kids, YouTube restricts or disables certain features, including live chat and notifications. Their absence is therefore not evidence that the video signal has stopped. YouTube’s Made for Kids guidance explains the feature restrictions.

A healthy status is a current report, not a 24/7 promise
YouTube’s documentation explains how to check stream health and monitor playback, but it does not establish a special status procedure or an uninterrupted-operation guarantee for 24/7 streams. Check both the current Studio status and the public watch page when you need to confirm the stream is playing.
Use analytics for context, not to confirm live playback
Live Control Room includes real-time analytics such as concurrent viewers and stream duration, alongside stream health. YouTube Analytics is processed and despammed and is based on the video ID, so its figures can differ from Live Control Room’s numbers. Post-stream reports are useful for reviewing performance, but they are not the primary way to determine whether a feed is playing right now. YouTube’s computer help for Analytics covers those reporting differences.

If you use horizontal and vertical formats together, YouTube says Live Control Room combines metrics during and after the stream. Metrics for only the vertical stream become available after 24 hours; that reporting delay does not indicate whether the stream is currently healthy. YouTube’s Live Control Room help.

Studio shows an error: record its timestamp and severity, follow the message’s instructions, then recheck the Health Indicator.

The status looks healthy, but playback fails: reload the public watch page and test it on another device or mobile connection. Confirm both motion and sound.

The public page plays but the viewer count is zero: do not treat the count alone as proof of an interruption; check the stream status and playback directly.

Chat or notifications are unavailable: check the audience setting. If the stream is marked Made for Kids, these restrictions may be expected.
