How to Check Vande Bharat Sleeper Routes, Stops and Schedules Before Booking

To verify a Vande Bharat Sleeper journey, use three separate checks: the official Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Enquiry schedule for the planned route, the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) for updated running information, and an authorized railway booking channel for seats on your exact date. Search by train number or train name, select the correct direction, and inspect every station, time, halt, distance and day before paying.

Do not treat a launch announcement, a search-engine result or a timetable in the opposite direction as proof that a train runs on your date. Running days, stops, timings and inventory are date-specific and can change.

What is currently established about the Vande Bharat Sleeper service

The first Vande Bharat Sleeper service links Howrah and Kamakhya, serving the Guwahati area. The Ministry of Railways announced the route on 1 January 2026 as an overnight service intended to leave its origin in the evening and reach its destination early the next morning. That description explains the service concept; it is not a substitute for checking the timetable for your date.

Train 27576 operates in the Kamakhya (KYQ) to Howrah (HWH) direction, while the paired service is identified as 27575 in the Howrah–Kamakhya direction. PIB reported that the inaugural commercial journey from Kamakhya was scheduled for 22 January 2026 and the journey from Howrah for 23 January 2026. Its first ticket window opened on 19 January 2026 at 08:00. A Lok Sabha answer records regular operation of 27575/27576 as commencing on 22 January 2026. Those are launch-history dates, not guarantees of the current October 2026 timetable.

A February 2026 Rajya Sabha answer described the service as running six days a week: from Kamakhya on every day except Wednesday and from Howrah on every day except Thursday. Verify that pattern in the live official schedule before selecting a date. A separate Lok Sabha answer said two Vande Bharat Sleeper services were being operated as of 25 March 2026, but the available passage does not identify a complete route list. It therefore cannot establish every sleeper route operating in October 2026.

Identify the exact train and direction first

“Vande Bharat Sleeper” is a service family, not a single universal timetable. Before looking for stops or seats, write down the train number or the exact train name, your origin station, your destination station and the date of travel.

Use train numbers when names are ambiguous

Numbers are the most reliable search key when multiple services have similar names. For the first service, verify whether your journey is 27575 (Howrah toward Kamakhya) or 27576 (Kamakhya toward Howrah). Do not assume that the return train uses the same departure time, intermediate halts or running days.

Use station codes to avoid similarly named stations

The schedule displays both station code and station name. KYQ is Kamakhya and HWH is Howrah. Confirm the code shown in the result, especially when a city has more than one major station or a booking form offers several stations with similar names.

Set the travel date before judging a result

A service may appear in a general train search while not operating on the weekday you selected. Enter the actual journey date, then check the operating-day field in the timetable and the availability result for that date.

How to read the official Indian Railways schedule

The CRIS Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Enquiry schedule lookup is the authoritative place to inspect the planned timetable for trains defined in the Passenger Reservation System (PRS). Search by train number or name, then open the schedule rather than relying only on a summary card.

  1. Open the Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Enquiry schedule lookup.
  2. Enter the train number or train name. If a name search returns several results, select the number that matches your booking or railway notice.
  3. Choose the direction and the intended date. Check the origin and destination shown at the top of the result.
  4. Read the complete station sequence, not just the first and last station.
  5. Record arrival time, departure time, halt duration, distance and day for every station relevant to your trip.
  6. Compare the displayed running day with your calendar date. For an overnight service, the arrival may be on the following calendar day.

Fields shown in the schedule

Field What it tells you How to use it
Station code The railway identifier for the station Use it to distinguish stations with similar names and to cross-check a booking form.
Station name The full station at which the train is listed Confirm that it is the station you can actually reach, not merely the city you intend to visit.
Route number The station’s position in the train’s route Use the sequence to see whether a stop is before or after your boarding point.
Arrival The planned arrival time For your destination, check whether the time falls on the next day of an overnight run.
Departure The planned departure time For your origin, allow time for security, platform access and boarding before this time.
Halt The scheduled stopping duration A short halt is not a safe assumption for boarding late or changing plans; arrive at the station early.
Distance The distance associated with that route point Use it to confirm that the sequence is the expected corridor, not to estimate the journey time by itself.
Day The service day or day offset in the route Check it carefully when departure is in the evening and arrival is after midnight.

Save or print the result after checking it. A timetable is a planned operating pattern; it does not show where the train is right now or whether a seat remains.

Confirming whether a station is really a stop

When a traveler asks, “Which stations does it stop at?”, use the station rows in the selected direction as the answer. Do not rely on a route map, a city list or a third-party summary that omits intermediate stations. A station is relevant to your trip only when it appears in the official sequence for that train number and date.

For a partial journey, identify the first station at which you board and the later station at which you leave. Check both rows, including their day values. If your boarding station has a departure time but no convenient arrival time for your plans, remember that the departure field is the train’s scheduled movement time, not a suggested time to reach the platform. The halt field helps you understand how long the train is scheduled to stand, but it is not extra boarding time that can safely be used to arrive late.

Use the route number to verify order. This prevents a common error in which a passenger selects a station served in the opposite direction or assumes that every station shown on a corridor map is served by the sleeper service. If a station is missing from the selected train’s schedule, do not book it as an intermediate stop.

Compare both travel directions instead of reversing the timetable

Howrah-to-Kamakhya and Kamakhya-to-Howrah are separate schedule results. Even when the train pair uses the same corridor, the departure and arrival times, station halts, day values and running-day exceptions can differ.

The route announcement’s overnight intention means an evening departure and an early-morning arrival are plausible, but only the selected direction and date reveal the actual times.

Use NTES for live running status, not for the planned timetable

The National Train Enquiry System (NTES) answers a different question from the schedule page. The PRS schedule tells you where the train is planned to stop and when; NTES reports updated arrival, departure or running progress as the journey approaches or is under way.

When to check NTES

  • Check close to departure to see whether the train is running late, early or on its expected route.
  • Check again before leaving for the station if weather, congestion or an operational notice could affect the service.
  • For a train already in motion, use the live status tied to the correct train number and journey date.

How to interpret a mismatch

If NTES shows a revised arrival time, keep the planned station sequence from the official schedule but use the live update for the expected time at your station. A live-status screen does not prove that a station is a scheduled stop, and a timetable does not prove that the train is currently on time.

Check date-specific availability before making plans

After confirming the route, use an authorized railway booking channel to search the same train number, direction, origin, destination, class and date. The booking result—not the January 2026 inaugural announcement—determines whether inventory is available now.

  1. Enter the exact origin and destination station codes from the schedule.
  2. Enter the calendar date on which you will board. For an overnight journey, do not change the date merely because arrival is the next morning.
  3. Select the verified train number and inspect the listed classes. The Ministry announced the first service with 11 AC three-tier coaches, four AC two-tier coaches and one AC first-class coach, for 16 coaches in total; booking availability for a particular date can still vary.
  4. Review the status shown for your selected class, such as available, waitlisted or another current inventory state, and note any booking or cancellation conditions displayed by the channel.
  5. Confirm passenger details, boarding station and destination before payment. A reservation from the wrong station pair can produce a valid ticket that does not serve the journey you intended.
  6. After booking, retain the train number, date, boarding station and reservation reference so you can check NTES later.

PIB’s statement that the inaugural ticket window opened through PRS and other sites describes that launch event only. It does not establish present inventory, quota or a continuing booking window.

Plan around the service’s published specifications without over-reading them

The Ministry of Railways listed approximately 823 passenger capacity and a design speed of up to 180 km/h for the service announced in 2026. The speed is a design figure, not a promise that the train will travel at 180 km/h on your route or arrive within a particular duration. Track conditions, signaling, traffic, station halts and operational decisions determine the actual journey.

The same ministry feature list mentions KAVACH, CCTV in all coaches, emergency talk-back units, and fire detection and suppression systems. These are published train features, not an independent safety audit. They also do not remove the need to follow station and onboard instructions.

Do not confuse launch facts with today’s operating information

Launch announcements are useful for identifying the inaugural route and train numbers, but they are historical notices. The 22 January and 23 January 2026 inaugural journey dates, the 19 January booking opening at 08:00, and the February statement about six operating days describe the service at that point in time. They should not be copied into a current itinerary without a fresh schedule check.

Likewise, the statement that two sleeper services were operating as of 25 March 2026 is a dated network snapshot, not a complete list for October 2026. If you are looking for another Vande Bharat Sleeper route, search the official schedule by the train’s name or number for your selected date. Do not infer a route from the existence of the Howrah–Kamakhya pair.

A practical recheck schedule for your trip

When you first plan

  • Find the official train number and direction.
  • Read the complete PRS schedule and note the station code, departure, arrival, halt, distance and day for your boarding and destination stations.
  • Check that the service’s running day matches your proposed date.

After choosing a date

  • Search an authorized booking channel with the same station codes and train number.
  • Confirm that the desired class has inventory and that the ticket shows the intended boarding point.
  • Allow a margin for reaching the station; the listed departure is not a recommended arrival time.

Shortly before departure

  • Run the PRS schedule check again in case the published pattern has been revised.
  • Use NTES for the latest running information.
  • Check station announcements or railway notices for platform or operational changes.

Troubleshoot common route and timetable mistakes

The train does not appear in a name search

Try the train number, remove extra words from the name, and confirm that you selected the schedule enquiry rather than a live-status search. If the number still returns no result, do not infer that the train has been cancelled; verify the number through an official railway notice or booking enquiry and try the date again.

The result shows the wrong city or station

Compare the station code with your intended boarding point. Cities can have multiple stations, and a train serving a metropolitan area may not stop at the station you assumed. Change the origin or destination only after checking the complete station list.

The reverse direction has different times

That is expected. Open a separate result for the return train number and direction. Never calculate the return departure by subtracting the outbound journey time.

The timetable says the train runs, but booking shows no seats

A schedule confirms planned operation, not inventory. Check another class or permitted quota shown by the authorized channel, verify the date and station pair, and do not treat a historical opening date as evidence of current availability.

NTES and your saved timetable disagree

Use the timetable to identify scheduled stops and NTES to judge current movement. Recheck both close to departure and allow for a live delay when deciding when to leave for the station.

The train appears on a weekday you did not expect

Use the date-specific schedule result rather than a remembered weekly pattern. The six-day pattern reported in February 2026 is a historical statement that requires current confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check a Vande Bharat Sleeper route?

Open the official Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Enquiry schedule lookup and search by train number or exact train name. Select the direction and date, then read the complete station sequence, including codes, arrival and departure times, halts, distance and day.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which stations does Vande Bharat Sleeper stop at?

Stops are train- and direction-specific. Use the station rows in the selected PRS schedule rather than a route map or a general city list. The route number shows each station’s position in the sequence.

What are trains 27575 and 27576?

The first service is identified as 27575 in the Howrah-to-Kamakhya direction and 27576 from Kamakhya to Howrah. Open the separate schedule for the direction you intend to travel.

Which days does the Howrah–Kamakhya sleeper run?

A February 2026 Rajya Sabha answer described departures from Kamakhya on all days except Wednesday and from Howrah on all days except Thursday. Treat that as a dated statement and verify the current running-day field for your travel date.

Is the evening-to-morning timing guaranteed?

The Ministry described an intention for an evening departure and early-morning arrival. The actual departure, arrival and day values must come from the date-specific official schedule.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How is NTES different from the timetable?

The PRS schedule shows the planned route and times. NTES provides updated arrival, departure or running progress. Use both: the timetable for scheduled stops and NTES for current movement.

Why can a train appear in the schedule but have no seats?

A timetable confirms planned operation, not remaining inventory. Search the exact date, station pair and class in an authorized booking channel and follow the availability status shown there.

When did the first Vande Bharat Sleeper service start?

PIB reported inaugural commercial journeys from Kamakhya on 22 January 2026 and from Howrah on 23 January 2026. A Lok Sabha answer records regular operation of 27575/27576 as commencing on 22 January 2026; these dates describe launch history, not a current timetable.

The Bottom Line

Check the exact train number, direction and date in the official PRS schedule, read every stop and timing field, confirm seats through an authorized booking channel, and use NTES shortly before travel for live running updates. Never reverse a timetable or rely on launch dates as proof of today’s service.
