UPI transaction limits and UPI AutoPay mandates are separate controls: a transaction limit affects how much you can send in a payment, while a mandate authorizes recurring payments such as bills or subscriptions. NPCI sets broad transaction ceilings, but your usable limit depends on your bank, app and payment category. For recurring payments, open your app’s Manage Bank Accounts or UPI AutoPay area to review, pause, modify or revoke mandates.
First identify which UPI control you need
- Per-transaction limit: the maximum amount allowed in one payment.
- Daily limit: a bank- or app-specific cap on the amount or number of transactions over a day. Do not assume this is the same as the per-transaction ceiling.
- UPI AutoPay mandate: permission for a merchant or service to collect recurring payments under the terms shown when the mandate was created.
Changing a transfer limit does not pause a mandate, and revoking a mandate does not change how much you can send in a separate UPI payment.

What is the limit of fund transfer using UPI?
NPCI’s UPI FAQ gives a general ceiling of up to ₹1 lakh per normal UPI transaction. It also lists higher ceilings of up to ₹2 lakh for Capital Markets, Collections, Insurance and Foreign Inward Remittances, and up to ₹5 lakh for IPO and Retail Direct Scheme payments. These are category-specific ceilings, not guaranteed limits for every user or payment. Your bank or app may impose a lower usable limit, and the payment must qualify for the relevant category. NPCI’s UPI FAQ
Those figures describe amounts per transaction. They do not establish one universal daily amount or transaction-count cap. Check the limit details your bank and app provide for your account and payment type.

How to check or change your UPI transaction limit
There is no universal UPI limit-setting menu established by NPCI’s FAQ or AutoPay circular. The exact controls and labels depend on the app and linked bank account, so use your app’s current help instructions if its menus differ.
- Open the payment app’s profile, bank-account or UPI settings. Look for transaction limits, UPI limits, or a linked-account limit page.
- Select the linked bank account you use for UPI. Check the displayed per-transaction cap and, if shown, any daily amount or transaction-count cap.
- Check any category-specific limit separately. A higher NPCI ceiling for a particular payment type does not mean your account or app permits that amount.
- Use an in-app change control only if one is provided. Review the amount and terms before confirming. If the limit cannot be changed or is unclear, contact the bank or app through its official support channel.
- For a payment that fails, check the applicable limit and bank/app guidance. Do not infer that a higher category ceiling overrides a lower account-specific cap.
How to view all your UPI AutoPay mandates
NPCI’s circular OC-223, dated 7 October 2025, requires apps to let users view and port active UPI AutoPay mandates through either Manage Bank accounts or a dedicated UPI Autopay section, alongside the ability to revoke, pause and modify them. Menu names and presentation may vary between apps. NPCI Circular OC-223

- 3-PACK VALUE SET: Includes three (3) identical countertop signs, ideal for placing at multiple registers, checkout stations, or service counters.

AutoPay can cover recurring payments such as mobile and electricity bills, EMIs, entertainment or OTT subscriptions, insurance and mutual funds. The NPCI BHIM page gives these as examples of recurring payments; availability and the exact terms depend on the mandate and service. NPCI BHIM product page

How to pause, modify or revoke a mandate
From the mandate’s details screen, choose the action you intend to take. The app’s available controls and wording may vary; check its current official help if you cannot find the option.
Rank #3
- Pause when you want to suspend the mandate temporarily, if that option is offered.
- Modify when you need to change a mandate detail and the app allows that change.
- Revoke when you want to withdraw the authorization rather than temporarily suspend it.
NPCI says payer-initiated AutoPay operations require the UPI PIN. Enter it only in the trusted payment app’s authentication flow for the change you selected. Never share your UPI PIN with a merchant or support agent. NPCI’s FAQ says the UPI PIN authorizes bank transactions. NPCI’s UPI FAQ
After completing the action, return to the mandate list and check that the status reflects the change. If it has not updated or the action failed, use the app’s or bank’s official support channel rather than assuming the mandate has changed.

What does porting a UPI AutoPay mandate mean?
Porting lets a user move an active mandate to another UPI app. Under NPCI Circular OC-223, start from the mandate details page after fetching its details with View Mandate. Porting can be done only once in a rolling 90-day period. The circular also requires the relevant view-and-port facility in the app, though the screen flow may differ. NPCI Circular OC-223

Security and limits to keep in mind
- Read the mandate’s merchant, amount, frequency and date details before approving an operation.
- Use your UPI PIN only to authorize the action inside the app; do not disclose it to anyone.
- Do not treat older guidance as a current universal AutoPay cap. NPCI’s Product Booklet mentions recurring payments up to ₹2,000, but that older material does not establish a current limit for every mandate or bank. Check current app and bank instructions for the mandate in question. NPCI Product Booklet
