To check an Indian income-tax appeal online, sign in to the official Income Tax Department e-Filing portal and use its appeal-related service to find the appeal record. The Department describes online e-appeal status tracking and access to appeal details, but its available guidance does not confirm the current menu labels or exact click sequence.
Check an existing appeal on the official e-Filing portal

Go to the Income Tax Department e-Filing portal. Use the official government site rather than a third-party page requesting tax credentials.

Open the portal’s appeal-related service and look for the relevant appeal record. The Department’s published material confirms that the e-appeal facility supports status tracking, but does not establish the exact current menu path. Avoid relying on instructions for filing a new appeal as though they were instructions for tracking an existing one.

Choose the right portal function
| Portal function | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Appeal-related service | Tracking an appeal and viewing related details; the Department’s e-appeal description also refers to downloading information. |
| e-Proceedings | Receiving and responding to notices, making submissions, and viewing submitted responses. It is not a substitute for the appeal-status tracker. |
| Grievance system | Reporting portal or service problems, such as being unable to access or locate a record. A grievance’s status is not the appeal’s status. |
If the appeal is missing or the portal does not work
First check that you are signed in to the account associated with the correct taxpayer or authorised representative. If the appeal still does not appear, or a portal problem prevents access, use the Department’s grievance system or its official contact page. The Department says a grievance can be filed without portal registration and checked either before or after signing in. Explain the access or record issue, and keep any acknowledgement or reference details; do not treat the grievance tracker as an appeal tracker.

What to know about appeals and the 2026 transition
The Department describes the appellate hierarchy as Assessing Officer, then JCIT(A) or CIT(A), then ITAT, High Court, and Supreme Court. If an appeal was pending before the CIT(A) on 1 April 2026, the Department says it continues under the Income Tax Act, 1961 and does not need to be filed again because of the transition.
If you have not filed the appeal yet
This is separate from checking status. For an appeal against an Assessing Officer order, the Department’s Form 35 FAQ gives a general filing period of 30 days from service of the order or demand, as applicable. It says delay may be condoned where reasonable cause prevented filing within time. Check the Department’s current guidance for the circumstances and filing procedure that apply to your case.
