To check a CBI fraud matter online, first identify the court handling it. For a district or taluka case, use the official eCourts case-status service and search with the 16-character CNR when you have it. Without a CNR, the same service can search by case or filing number, party, advocate, FIR, case type, or Act/section. High Court and Supreme Court matters use separate official services.
These portals show court records—status, hearing history and orders. They do not, on the evidence available here, provide a verified public tracker for every stage of a CBI investigation before a court case is registered.

What an online “status” actually tells you
A CBI fraud matter can exist at two different stages:
- Investigation stage: CBI officers may be collecting evidence or taking other investigative steps before a charge-sheet or other filing reaches a court.
- Court stage: A court has registered a case, assigned identifiers and begun maintaining a public case record.
The official eCourts material documents court case status, case history and orders. It does not establish a public, case-by-case CBI dashboard for investigation progress before court registration. Therefore, a search result can tell you what the selected court has recorded; it cannot by itself prove that an investigation is active, closed, transferred or nonexistent.

For a court-stage matter, the latest hearing entry and the newest order in the case history are usually the most useful indicators. Read the document itself rather than relying on a search-result label, especially when a decision affects deadlines, bail, evidence, appearance or another legal obligation.
Choose the correct court service before searching
Use the court shown on the FIR-related papers, summons, prior order or other case document. District and taluka courts, High Courts and the Supreme Court have separate interfaces.

Government service listings also describe separate online status services for district courts and for the Supreme Court and High Courts. Those listings are useful when you are unsure which official portal applies.

Searching is faster and less error-prone when you have the exact wording from a court or police document. Gather as many of these as possible:
- The 16-character alphanumeric CNR, if a court document provides one.
- The court complex, district, state and court level.
- Case type, case number and year, or filing number and year.
- Names of the parties exactly as shown in the record.
- The advocate’s name, if that is the identifier you have.
- Police station, FIR number and FIR year.
- A prior order date or the case number printed on an order.
Preserve the original spelling, initials and order of names. A small difference in a party name, an incorrect year or the wrong court complex can produce no result even when the case is online.
District or taluka court: step-by-step lookup
1. Open the official case-status page
Go to the eCourts District and Taluka case-status service. Select the state, district and court complex requested by the page. The available fields can vary with the selected jurisdiction.

2. Use the CNR search when you have one
A CNR (Case Number Record) is generally the shortest route to a matching court record. The CNR service instructs users: “Enter the 16 digit alphanumeric CNR Number without any hyphen or space.” Enter all 16 characters together—no spaces and no hyphens—on the official eCourts CNR search. Submit the search and review the returned court, parties, case number, current status and case history.
Check every identifier in the result before treating it as your matter. Similar names can lead to a plausible-looking but unrelated entry.
3. Search by case or filing number if no CNR is available
On the district service, choose the case-number or filing-number option. Enter the relevant number, select the case type requested by the form and provide the year. A number without its type and year is often not enough to identify one record.
4. Search by party name or advocate
Use the party-name search when you know a complainant, accused, petitioner, respondent or other recorded party. The service instructions call for at least three characters. Use the advocate search when the lawyer’s name is the reliable identifier, then narrow the results by court, year or case type as the page permits.
5. Search by FIR number
Select the FIR option, choose the police station and enter the FIR number and year. If you do not know whether the resulting matter is pending or disposed, select the option covering both statuses when available. Open each plausible case history and verify the parties, court and dates.
An FIR search is a way to locate a court case using FIR information. It is not a complete timeline of police or CBI investigative activity. An FIR may have no matching online court case if proceedings have not been registered in that court or if the relevant record is not exposed through that service.

6. Open the matching case history
Use the case-history link for the record that matches your documents. Review filing details, listed hearings, stage or status labels, and the chronological entries. Note the date of the latest event and whether the entry describes a hearing, filing, disposal or order.
7. Follow the order link and verify the document
Where an order link appears, open or download the document. Compare its court name, case number, parties, order date and judge or bench details with your papers. Save the file with its date and case number so later downloads do not overwrite it. If the portal provides more than one document for a date, open each one that belongs to the matching case.
High Court cases and orders
Use the eCourts High Court services rather than the district interface when the case is pending in a High Court. Select the relevant High Court and use the CNR or case details requested by that court’s page.

If you know the date on which an order was pronounced or uploaded, order-date search can be faster than browsing every listing. Still confirm the case number and parties in the document: an order date alone is not sufficient proof that the document concerns your CBI matter.
A district case and a High Court proceeding arising from it can have different numbers and separate histories. Search the court named on the document you need, then retain both records if an appeal, revision, petition or other connected proceeding is shown.
Supreme Court status
For a Supreme Court matter, use the Supreme Court status route identified in the Government of India’s case-status service listing. The listing describes searches using a case number or petitioner, respondent or advocate details. Select the Supreme Court service itself, enter the requested fields and verify the resulting parties and dates.

Do not assume that a Supreme Court entry replaces the district or High Court record. Different proceedings can coexist, and each court maintains its own history and orders.

Case status and case history
A status label is a short description supplied by the court service. Case history provides the dated sequence of events and is usually more informative for determining what happened recently. Look for the latest dated entry, the next listed date (if one is shown), and references to an order or filing.
Orders versus daily listings
A hearing listing or daily order entry may show that the matter was called or scheduled; it does not necessarily contain the reasons, directions or final result. Open the linked order whenever one is available. Read the operative paragraphs and the date, not just a headline or status word.
Pending and disposed records
“Disposed” indicates that the court record is marked disposed in that service. It does not, without the order, explain whether the matter ended by judgment, dismissal, withdrawal, transfer or another procedural outcome. Likewise, “pending” does not describe the exact investigative activity taking place outside the court record.
Connected proceedings
Names, FIR numbers and case numbers can appear in more than one proceeding. Before relying on an order, match at least the court, case number, parties and date. If your lawyer supplied a linked or connected-case number, search that number separately rather than assuming one history contains every proceeding.

What to do when no case appears
An empty result is a troubleshooting signal, not a legal conclusion. Work through these checks:
- Re-enter the CNR exactly, removing spaces and hyphens and checking easily confused characters.
- Confirm the state, district, court complex and court level.
- Check the case type and year against the document, not your memory.
- Try the party-name search with at least three characters and the advocate search.
- For an FIR search, verify the police station, FIR number and FIR year, and include both pending and disposed statuses if that option is offered.
- Search the High Court service if an order or petition names a High Court, and use the Supreme Court route for a Supreme Court case.
- Check whether the matter has actually been registered as a court case. A pre-court investigation may not have a public court-history entry.
Portal fields and interfaces can change. If a document identifies a court but the online record remains unavailable after these checks, ask the court registry, your advocate or an appropriate legal-aid service how that court publishes records. Keep the document that supplied your identifier; it is more reliable than guessing from a name-only result.
Can you track a CBI investigation before it reaches court?
The official services covered here do not establish a public online tracker for every pre-court CBI investigation stage. Consequently, you should not infer “active,” “closed,” “charge-sheet filed” or “no investigation” solely from whether an eCourts search returns a case.
If you need a case-specific update before court registration, use the contact details on official case papers or obtain advice from the lawyer representing an interested party. A lawyer can explain what records are available, whether a filing has occurred under another identifier and what procedural step, if any, should be taken. Do not publish or circulate an unverified status based only on a missing portal result.

Downloading and preserving an order
When the portal opens an order, use its download or print function and retain the original file. Record:
- the court and bench or judge;
- case number and connected numbers shown;
- parties;
- order date;
- the file name and the date you downloaded it.
Keep a second copy in a secure location. If the document is scanned, confirm that every page is present and readable. A browser preview, a case-history line and the signed order are different things; use the signed or officially provided document when a legal decision depends on exact wording.
When professional help is necessary
Online status pages are record-lookup tools, not substitutes for legal interpretation. Consult your advocate or an appropriate legal-aid service when you must understand the effect of an order, calculate a deadline, respond to a summons, assess bail or liberty implications, challenge a listing, or decide whether to disclose evidence. Give the adviser the downloaded order, the case-history dates and the identifiers you used so the advice is based on the same record.
For routine checking, the official portals are sufficient and do not require paid software or special equipment. The important safeguards are using the correct court, entering identifiers exactly and confirming that every document belongs to the intended case.
