How to Check Singapore’s PSI and PM2.5 Before Going Outdoors

For an outing today, check the latest regional 1-hour PM2.5 reading on the National Environment Agency (NEA) website, haze.gov.sg or the myENV app, then follow the personal activity guide for your health group. For tomorrow or an event lasting several hours, use NEA’s 24-hour PSI forecast and advisory when available. Recheck 1-hour PM2.5 close to departure: it can change over the day.

Where to check Singapore’s air quality

NEA identifies the air-quality data it reports as Singapore’s official information. NEA and the Ministry of Health (MOH) direct the public to the NEA website, nea.gov.sg, haze.gov.sg and the myENV app for readings and haze advisories. During haze periods, these channels carry the 24-hour PSI forecast and daily advisory. NEA explains its air-quality readings and channels.

In myENV, NEA’s 2026 user guide says to enable Air Quality under Settings > Features & Alerts, return to the landing page, then choose 24-hr PSI, 1-hr PM2.5 or Regional Haze. App labels can change between versions; these are the paths in the 2026 guide. Read NEA’s myENV user guide.

A third-party AQI display is not automatically equivalent to Singapore’s PSI or NEA’s PM2.5 bands. Use the official Singapore reading and its accompanying local guidance rather than converting it with another country’s AQI calculator: national systems use different breakpoints and descriptors. NEA’s FAQ explains the local scales.

Air Quality Monitor Indoor, 10-in-1 Portable Smart Real-Time CO2 Detector
  • 【Professional 10-in-1 Air Quality Monitor】This professional 10-in-1 air quality monitor accurately measures carbon dioxide (CO2), formaldehyde (HCHO), total volatile organic compounds (TVOC), temperature, humidity, AQI, PM2.5, PM1.0, PM10 in real time, and features a clock (Connect your phone to the monitor via Bluetooth: MT13S, and it will automatically calibrate the time). It helps you keep track of your indoor air quality at a glance, making it ideal for home use.
  • 【3-Color Visualization System】This CO2 detector features a high-definition color screen that displays data in real time, ensuring clear readings. It provides a comprehensive assessment of air quality and tracks the average concentration of each gas, enabling data visualization. When air quality exceeds safety thresholds, the screen intelligently changes color, allowing potential air quality risks to be detected immediately—even from a distance.
  • 【High Accuracy and Reliability】Built with a high-performance smart chip and advanced sensor array, this tester adopts dedicated intelligent sensing technology for CO2 detection, paired with precision electrochemical sensors for HCHO and TVOC monitoring. Unlike ordinary detectors, it features smart calibration and stable sensitivity, ensuring long-term accurate data output without frequent manual adjustments.
  • 【Simple Operation】Air Quality Tester: Press and hold the "Power button" for 3 seconds to turn the air quality monitor on or off, and it automatically initiates full-range detection the moment it’s turned on; and press once to switch temperature settings ℃/℉; press twice to turn the sound on or off; press 3 times to enter the calibration mode; press 4 times to put the screen to sleep(then press once to wake the screen). You can calibrate the time by connecting your phone to the MT13S via Bluetooth.
  • 【Wide Range of Applications】This compact and portable indoor air quality monitor can measure air quality in bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, offices, cars, schools, hotels, basements, restaurants, campsites, and other environments. It is suitable for use in homes, vehicles, grow rooms, maternity and infant care rooms, and public spaces.

Which reading to use: now or later

Reading What it measures Best use What to keep in mind
1-hour PM2.5 PM2.5 concentration averaged over the past hour, in µg/m³ Deciding about an outing now, such as a walk or run It can fluctuate, particularly during transboundary haze; check the latest regional value before leaving.
24-hour PSI forecast An index based on 24-hour averages of six pollutants: PM10, PM2.5, SO2, NO2, ozone and CO Planning for the next day or a prolonged event when NEA issues a forecast during haze It is less volatile and suited to advance planning, but check 1-hour PM2.5 on the activity day for the immediate decision.

These are different measures, not two versions of the same scale. The PM2.5 number is a concentration; PSI is a composite index. NEA says it does not use a 1-hour PSI for health findings, so do not treat hourly PM2.5 as a “1-hour PSI.” NEA’s FAQ describes the distinction.

For an activity today

Open the latest 1-hour PM2.5 reading for the relevant region and read the personal guide alongside it. NEA says these readings are meant for immediate decisions such as whether to walk or run outdoors. The National Environment Agency and Ministry of Health also advised people planning activities within the same day to monitor the readings closely and check again before proceeding. For tomorrow or a long event

Use the 24-hour PSI forecast and NEA’s health advisory to plan ahead, particularly for an event expected to last many hours. A forecast can help you decide whether to reschedule, shorten the activity or arrange an indoor alternative. On the day, check 1-hour PM2.5 as well; the forecast is not a substitute for the latest conditions. NEA’s PSI guidance.

How to interpret the PSI and activity advice

Singapore’s 24-hour PSI categories are:

Category PSI range
Good 0–50
Moderate 51–100
Unhealthy 101–200
Very Unhealthy 201–300
Hazardous Above 300

The category alone is not a complete activity instruction. Advice depends on both the PSI and the person’s health group. At Unhealthy PSI, healthy people should reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor exertion; elderly people, pregnant women and children should minimise it; and people with chronic lung or heart disease should avoid it. At higher categories, guidance becomes more restrictive. NEA’s haze guidance and MOH’s haze health advice provide the group-specific recommendations.

In this guidance, “prolonged” means continuous exposure for several hours, while “strenuous” means activity requiring substantial energy or effort. Check the current NEA or MOH table for your group rather than applying one rule to everyone. For 1-hour PM2.5, use the personal guide and band descriptor shown with the Singapore reading; do not translate the number using a foreign AQI scale.

A practical check before you leave

  1. Open an official channel: Visit haze.gov.sg, the NEA website or myENV.
  2. Choose the time window: For an activity soon, select 1-hour PM2.5. For planning the next day or a long event during haze, check the 24-hour PSI forecast and advisory.
  3. Match the reading to the guidance: Use the accompanying personal guide for PM2.5 and the current group-specific advisory for PSI.
  4. Check again near departure: Hourly PM2.5 can move, so base an immediate decision on the latest regional reading rather than an earlier screenshot or forecast.
  5. Adjust the plan if needed: Follow the advice for your health group; consider shortening, postponing or moving the activity indoors when the guidance calls for reduced or avoided outdoor exertion.

Why a reading you saw earlier may not answer today’s question

Both the haze situation and the readings change. For example, NEA reported at 5pm on 6 October 2026 that 1-hour PM2.5 ranged from 73–103 µg/m³ (Band 2, Elevated) and 24-hour PSI was 102–135 (Unhealthy). Those figures describe that dated snapshot only; they are not current conditions. Use a fresh official check for today’s decision. NEA’s 6 October 2026 advisory.
