Check the game’s PlayStation Store listing first; if you pre-ordered it, the countdown in your PS5 Game Library is the next-best check. Treat a date and an exact unlock time as different information, and verify whether any displayed hour is UTC or local time before converting it. A date alone does not establish when the game becomes playable where you live.
How do I check what time a PS5 game comes out in my region?
- Open the game’s PlayStation Store listing. PlayStation Support says a pre-order’s release date appears under the game title. Look for an hour and a clearly identified time zone as well; the date alone does not give an exact local unlock time. PlayStation Support’s pre-order and auto-download guide explains where to find the date.
- If you pre-ordered it, check the PS5 countdown. On the console, go to Game Library, select the pre-ordered game, and view its countdown. Selecting the timer shows included content and lets you manage auto-download settings, according to PlayStation Support.
- Look for a game-specific official announcement. Check the publisher’s announcement or official PlayStation coverage alongside the Store listing. Confirm whether the time refers to the game launch or to a separate event, such as when pre-orders open.
- Convert only an explicitly stated time. If the listing gives a UTC timestamp, convert that timestamp to your location using the applicable local time and daylight-saving rules. Keep the date attached: conversion can move the event to the previous or following calendar day.
PlayStation’s support instructions explain where to find a pre-order date and countdown, but do not promise that every Store page shows an exact hour and time zone. If the listing provides only a date, do not infer an unlock time from it. Check the live countdown, if available, and look for a game-specific official announcement instead.

What time does my PS5 pre-order unlock?
Use the countdown for the pre-order in your PS5 Game Library rather than assuming a particular hour. A countdown is the on-console reference PlayStation describes for the pre-ordered game; selecting its timer also displays included content and auto-download controls. Where the Store or an official announcement gives a precise time, make sure it is for the game’s launch, not an earlier pre-order opening.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. This can prepare the download, but PlayStation does not guarantee in its support guidance that every game will be immediately playable at the scheduled instant.

Does a PS5 game release at midnight local time?
Do not assume so. The official examples available here do not establish a universal midnight-local rule or a single global unlock time for all PS5 games. The dependable approach is to use the particular game’s regional Store listing, its PS5 pre-order countdown if you have one, and any official game-specific launch announcement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the time zone and event label matter
Official pages can describe different events and use different time references. For example, the September 28, 2026 PlayStation.Blog announcement about God of War Laufey says pre-orders would begin September 29 at 10:00 a.m. local time, while separately giving February 16, 2027 as the scheduled PS5 launch date. The pre-order opening is not the game’s unlock time.

- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
A separate example shows why a timestamp must stay tied to its source and region: when checked on October 4, 2026, the US PlayStation Store listing for Grand Theft Auto VI displayed November 19, 2026 at 05:00 AM UTC. That is the listing for one game in one regional storefront, not a rule for other PS5 releases.
