To check what a Pokémon card is worth, identify the exact card and condition, then compare recent completed sales for matching copies. A card name or current asking price alone is not enough: set, card number, language, printing, condition, and grading status can all change which prices are relevant.
How do I identify the exact Pokémon card?
Before looking up a price, record the details that distinguish your copy from similar cards:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Name and collector number: Match both; multiple cards can share a name.
- Set: Confirm the expansion or set shown on the card.
- Language: Compare with copies in the same language.
- Printing or foil variant: Distinguish standard holo, reverse holo, and other versions rather than treating them as interchangeable.
- Raw or graded: A raw, ungraded card is not comparable to a professionally graded copy. For graded cards, match the grading company and grade when possible.
eBay’s Price Guide matches an identified card to the same card and, when available, the same grade. TCGplayer’s product-page prices depend on the selected printing and condition filters. eBay Price Guide; TCGplayer price-point definitions.

Inspect the front and back in clear light. Check edges and corners for whitening or wear, and the surface for scratches, dents, creases, or other damage. Use a price filter for a condition only when the copy actually fits it. TCGplayer’s condition guidance says a crease makes a card Moderately Played at best and describes thresholds for edgewear and surface wear. TCGplayer’s card-condition guide.

Condition labels are not a substitute for examining the individual card. If the listing’s photos are unclear, ask for better images before treating its condition-filtered price as a useful comparison.
Where can I check recent Pokémon card prices?
| Source or figure | What it measures | Best use | Limit to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| TCGplayer Market Price | Recent completed sales on TCGplayer; it updates as transactions complete. | A marketplace-specific reference for the matching printing and condition. | It reflects TCGplayer sales and filters, not every market or region. TCGplayer Market Price. |
| TCGplayer Most Recent Sale | The latest sale under the selected product-page filters. | A quick check of the latest matching transaction. | One sale may be atypical, so check the sales history and volume too. TCGplayer price-point definitions. |
| TCGplayer Listed Median | The median of current listing prices. | Context for active seller asking prices and competition. | It is based on listings, not completed purchases, and can differ from what buyers pay. TCGplayer price-point definitions. |
| eBay Price Guide | Completed eBay sales, with matching and grade data where available; accepted Best Offer prices are included. | Checking matched sold comparisons and price history. | eBay says the guide is currently available only in the US and updates daily rather than continuously. eBay Price Guide. |
These are platform-specific views, not a single official Pokémon price. TCGplayer describes its Market Price as compiled from recent completed sales on its marketplace. TCGplayer Market Price.

Why are sold prices more useful than asking prices?
A listing shows what a seller hopes to receive; it does not prove a buyer paid that amount. Prefer completed transactions when estimating what a card has recently sold for. On TCGplayer, Market Price is based on completed sales, while Listed Median reflects current listings. On eBay, the Price Guide uses completed sales and accounts for accepted Best Offer prices rather than relying only on the original asking amount. TCGplayer price-point definitions; eBay Price Guide.
If you use a current listing to understand competition, label it as an asking price. Do not report it as a sale or market price.

How do I compare prices fairly?
Where enough transactions exist, compare at least two relevant views, such as a condition-filtered marketplace metric and sold listings for matching copies. Keep the comparison as consistent as possible:
- Same card, collector number, set, printing, and foil variant.
- Same language and raw or graded status.
- Same condition, or the same grading company and grade for graded cards.
- Similar sale period, marketplace, currency, and shipping context.
- Enough comparable sales to distinguish a pattern from an unusual one.
TCGplayer’s 30-day price-volatility metric uses sales volume and price dispersion; it may be indeterminate when volume is insufficient. Treat sparse evidence as uncertainty rather than turning one sale into a precise value. TCGplayer price-point definitions.

Describe a range or recent central tendency drawn from comparable sales, and say how many comparables support it and when you checked. Include the marketplace, currency, condition or grade, and relevant printing. That makes clear what the estimate applies to and how quickly it could become outdated.

What if the prices disagree or there are too few sales?
First check whether the sources are actually comparing the same version, language, condition, grade, and sale period. Differences may reflect unlike copies, current asking prices mixed with sold prices, or distinct marketplace activity. If matching sales remain scarce, give a cautious range and explain that the evidence is limited instead of presenting a single figure as definitive.
