On an iPhone 15 or later running iOS 17.4 or later, tap Battery Health to see the cycle count and other battery details. On iPhone 11, 12, 13, and 14, tap Battery Health & Charging to check maximum capacity and performance information; Apple’s cited instructions do not list a cycle-count field for those models.
Find the battery-health screen
- Open Settings > Battery.
- Choose the screen for your iPhone generation: tap Battery Health on iPhone 15 and later, or Battery Health & Charging on iPhone 11 through iPhone 14.
- Read the details shown. On iPhone 15 and later with iOS 17.4 or later, Battery Health can show maximum capacity, cycle count, manufacture date, first-use date, and whether replacement is recommended. On iPhone 11–14, Apple’s instructions describe maximum capacity and peak-performance information, but do not list cycle count.
Apple’s battery and performance instructions and iPhone user guide describe these model-specific screens. If your menus differ, check that your iPhone’s iOS version and model match the requirements above.

What an iPhone charge cycle means
A cycle is cumulative battery use equal to 100% of the battery’s capacity; it is not counted once per time you plug in. For example, using 60% of the battery one day and 40% the next adds up to one complete cycle. Apple says the cycle count is normalized between 80% and 100% of original capacity to account for expected capacity decline.

How to interpret cycle count and maximum capacity
Apple’s design targets differ by generation: iPhone 14 and earlier are designed to retain 80% of original capacity after 500 complete cycles, while iPhone 15 and later are designed to retain 80% after 1,000 complete cycles. These are targets under ideal conditions—not a guarantee, a fixed lifespan, or a universal service cutoff. Actual capacity depends on how the iPhone is regularly used and charged.

Consider the cycle count alongside maximum capacity, any performance information, and whether the screen recommends service. A cycle count by itself does not establish the battery’s present condition. Apple explains its battery capacity and cycle targets in more detail.
What an “Unable to verify” warning means
If the battery screen says “Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple battery,” Apple warns that battery-health information may be inaccurate. In that case, do not rely on the displayed percentage or cycle count as confirmed readings. See Apple’s guidance on genuine iPhone batteries and contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.

What to do if iPhone recommends service
If the screen recommends service or an aged battery has affected performance, contact Apple Support for service options. Apple Authorized Service Providers are another service channel. Availability and terms depend on the model and region, so check directly for the options applicable to your iPhone.

Charge Limit and Optimized Battery Charging are charging-management features intended to help manage battery lifespan. They do not show or replace the cycle count; check Battery Health for that information on supported models. Available settings vary by iPhone model and chosen charge limit. Apple describes these options in its guide to Charge Limit and Optimized Battery Charging.
