Check the exact iPhone model, storage capacity and condition first, then verify live pickup or delivery availability for your location. Compare each seller’s full cost—including activation, trade-in assumptions, financing, carrier lock, taxes, returns and bill credits—rather than choosing the lowest advertised price.
The process below is based on Apple’s U.S. buying and support information. Inventory, delivery estimates, promotions and trade-in values change, so confirm the live listing immediately before payment. Outside the United States, use your local Apple Store and the terms published by local carriers and retailers.

Use a repeatable buying process
A reliable comparison takes five decisions in order: define the configuration, check whether that configuration is available where you need it, record the price before conditional discounts, calculate the real payment obligation, and verify post-purchase terms. Changing the model or storage halfway through makes every later comparison unreliable.
- Define the device: model, storage, color if it affects stock, new or refurbished condition, and unlocked or carrier-financed purchase.
- Check availability: inspect pickup stock and delivery estimates for the selected configuration and your destination.
- Capture the offer: write down the outright price, required activation or plan, trade-in assumptions, financing term and any bill credits.
- Check ownership conditions: determine whether the phone is unlocked, when credits arrive, and what happens if you cancel or change a plan.
- Review protection: confirm return deadlines, restocking or shipping charges, warranty coverage and any price-adjustment policy.
- Recheck immediately before ordering: inventory and promotional terms are live facts, not permanent specifications.
Keep a screenshot or written record of each offer with the date and selected configuration. A monthly payment can look cheaper while committing you to a longer term or a qualifying plan, so record the total obligation as well.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Choose the exact iPhone configuration first
Identify model and storage
Start on the product page for the precise model you intend to buy. Storage capacity is a material part of the price and often has separate inventory. Compare a 128GB device only with other 128GB devices, for example; otherwise a lower headline price may simply reflect less storage.
Apple’s U.S. iPhone 17 product page showed a starting price of $899 when retrieved for this guide. That is a dated, volatile listing example, not a guaranteed current price and not the price of every storage configuration. Open the live product page and select the storage option before treating any number as your comparison baseline.
Record condition and seller
Mark whether each listing is new, refurbished or used. Condition changes the appropriate price and the risk you are accepting. For a non-Apple listing, inspect the seller’s stated warranty, return window, battery or cosmetic condition, and whether the item is genuinely the same regional model. The available evidence does not verify any particular non-Apple seller or listing, so those details must be checked on the live offer.

If you may change carriers, travel, or give the phone to someone using another network, include unlocked status in the specification. Do not assume that two listings with the same model number have the same lock condition; financing method can determine whether the device is restricted.
Check Apple Store pickup availability
Use the product-page stock link
On Apple’s product page, select your model and storage, then look for the interface label “Pickup: Check Availability.” Enter or confirm your location to see nearby Apple Stores that can fulfill that exact configuration. Availability is tied to the selected device, not merely to the model family, so changing storage or color can change the result.
Complete pickup selection at checkout
- Add the configured iPhone to your bag and proceed to checkout.
- Choose “I’ll pick it up” instead of delivery.
- Select the preferred Apple Store from the locations offered.
- Review the stated readiness timing and finish payment or authorization.
- Wait for Apple’s notification that the order is ready before traveling to the store.
A product page can show stock while checkout offers a different store or timing. Treat the checkout result as the operative confirmation. Do not leave for a store based only on an earlier search result; wait for the ready notification specified in the order.
When pickup is the better choice
- You need the phone by a specific date and a nearby store shows a ready window.
- You want to avoid a delivery handoff or uncertain carrier arrival.
- You need to inspect the pickup location, identification requirements or payment method before committing.
Pickup does not make an unavailable configuration available. If no nearby store offers the exact combination, switch to delivery or reconsider only the variable that matters least to you, such as color.

Check delivery estimates for your address
Read the estimate for the selected configuration
Select delivery after choosing the model and storage, enter the destination and note the estimated arrival window. The estimate applies to that configuration and destination; it can change when inventory is allocated or when you alter the shipping address. Recheck it immediately before placing the order.

Track the order after purchase
Apple describes delivery estimates and order status through its Order Listing page. Save the order number and monitor that page rather than relying on a generic product-page date. An estimate is not a promise that every order will arrive on the earliest day shown, so leave contingency time for a move, trip or trade-in deadline.
Compare pickup and delivery on the same date
Record both options at the same moment. A store may have a device ready sooner than delivery, while delivery may be the only route for a configuration unavailable locally. Include travel time and any delivery fee in your practical comparison, and confirm the return process for the fulfillment method you choose.
Compare prices on a like-for-like basis
Build one row per seller or offer, using the same model, storage and condition. Keep the conditions beside every price; a headline number without its eligibility requirements is not a comparable price.

|---|---|---|
| Device identity | Exact model, storage, condition and region | Different capacities or used condition can make a lower price misleading. |
| Upfront price | Outright price before trade-in and promotional credits | Shows the amount required without assuming future eligibility. |
| Activation or plan | Required carrier, new-line activation, switch or plan tier | A discount may depend on an ongoing service commitment. |
| Trade-in | Device being traded, condition assumptions and quoted value | An estimate or promotional credit is not an unconditional discount. |
| Financing | Total installments, number of months and bill-credit schedule | A low monthly figure can hide a larger total or a long commitment. |
| Lock status | Unlocked at purchase or locked until an installment balance is paid | Lock rules affect switching carriers and resale flexibility. |
| Fulfillment | Pickup readiness or delivery estimate for your location | A cheaper offer that arrives too late may not meet your need. |
| Returns and adjustments | Return deadline, exclusions, fees and price-difference policy | These terms determine your options after payment. |
Use the outright price as the baseline, then calculate the effective cost under the exact conditions you can satisfy. Do not subtract a trade-in value until you have checked how the seller evaluates condition and when the credit is applied.
Understand carrier promotions, trade-ins and financing
Carrier offers are conditional
Apple’s U.S. buying page answers “Is it cheaper to buy from my carrier?” with “Not necessarily.” The point is to compare the actual terms, not to assume that a carrier or Apple Store is always cheaper. Apple says many carrier promotions may also be available through an Apple Store, but eligibility and details can differ, so inspect the offer attached to your selected configuration.
Ask what must happen to receive the advertised amount: a qualifying carrier, new line, number transfer, activation, specific plan, trade-in or financing agreement. Record what happens if you cancel service, pay off the device early or change plans. A promotion that pays credits over time should be compared with an outright purchase using the same time horizon.
Evaluate trade-in values correctly
Write down the trade-in model and the condition assumptions used for the quote. Screen damage, activation locks, missing parts or a different storage capacity can change the final value after inspection. Separate an estimated value from a guaranteed credit, and distinguish a promotional trade-in amount from the phone’s ordinary resale value.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCheck when the credit appears. It may reduce the amount due immediately, arrive after inspection, or be distributed as monthly bill credits. Until the seller confirms the device’s condition, treat the quoted figure as conditional.

Compare financing by total payments
Multiply the required monthly installment by the number of payments and add any upfront amount, activation charge or required service cost that belongs to the purchase. Then account for bill credits separately. A lower monthly payment is not evidence of a lower total price unless the term and all conditions are the same.
Check whether the iPhone will be carrier locked
Apple’s U.S. shopping help distinguishes the financing route:
| Purchase route | Lock condition described by Apple |
|---|---|
| Paid outright | Unlocked. |
| Apple Card Monthly Installments | Unlocked. |
| Installment plan financed through AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon | Locked to that carrier until the device is paid in full. |
These are Apple’s stated U.S. terms; a carrier or retailer can publish additional requirements. Before ordering, open the particular seller’s lock and payoff policy. Ask whether paying the remaining balance, completing a minimum service period or meeting other conditions is required before an unlock. If you expect to move between networks, include the value of immediate flexibility in your comparison.
Calculate the real cost instead of the headline price
Make a cash-price calculation
For an outright purchase, start with the listed device price. Add required activation, shipping and other mandatory charges shown at checkout. Subtract only a trade-in credit that the seller has confirmed for your device and condition. Keep taxes visible because they can differ by location and are not represented by the advertised device price.
Make a financed-purchase calculation
For financing, record the amount financed, payment count, any interest or fees, required upfront payment, and the service-plan cost you would not otherwise incur. List promotional bill credits separately with their start date and duration. If a credit stops when you leave the carrier, the remaining device balance is part of your risk.
Use a decision worksheet
- Copy the exact model and storage from the product page.
- Enter the unconditional device price.
- Add mandatory fees and the amount due today.
- Enter trade-in value with the quoted condition and inspection assumptions.
- For financing, multiply installment amount by the number of payments.
- Record bill credits as a separate schedule rather than subtracting them immediately.
- Note the lock status and the consequence of early payoff or plan cancellation.
- Add pickup or delivery timing and return deadlines.
This worksheet lets you compare an Apple Store offer, a carrier offer and a retailer listing without treating different obligations as the same discount.

Read the return terms before paying
Confirm the return window, the date from which it runs, the condition required for a return, and whether shipping or restocking charges apply. For refurbished or used devices, read the seller’s warranty separately from Apple’s warranty. Keep the receipt and serial-number documentation needed to exercise either right.
Understand Apple’s stated price-reduction policy
Apple’s U.S. help page says customers may request a refund or credit for a price difference when Apple reduces the price of an Apple-branded product within 14 calendar days after receipt. The same page states a 10-unit limit for a particular product and excludes limited-time price reductions and special sales events such as Black Friday. This is Apple’s stated policy, not universal price protection and not a guarantee that every promotion qualifies. Confirm the current conditions with Apple before relying on it.

The policy concerns a price reduction by Apple; it does not automatically cover a lower price at another seller. Keep the exact product, receipt date and promotion details if you ask Apple about eligibility.
Recheck live information before placing the order
Inventory, delivery windows, promotional credits and trade-in quotes can change between research and checkout. Perform a final pass in the same session you intend to buy:
- Verify model, storage and condition in the cart.
- Confirm pickup store or delivery address.
- Read the final arrival or ready-for-pickup estimate.
- Check the outright price and every required activation or plan.
- Review trade-in instructions and the deadline for sending the old device.
- Confirm financing term, total payments, bill-credit timing and lock status.
- Save the return and warranty terms.
If any line changed, recalculate the comparison rather than assuming the earlier offer still applies.

Comparing different storage capacities
Symptom: one seller appears dramatically cheaper. Fix: select identical storage and condition on both pages, then compare again.
Subtracting a trade-in quote as if it were cash
Symptom: the advertised net price is far below the amount charged today. Fix: show the trade-in as conditional, including inspection assumptions and when the credit arrives.
Ignoring carrier obligations
Symptom: the monthly payment is low, but the offer requires a new line or a long service commitment. Fix: calculate device installments and required service costs separately, and record what happens if you leave early.
Overlooking a carrier lock
Symptom: the phone cannot be used on another network after purchase. Fix: verify whether the purchase is outright, through Apple Card Monthly Installments, or through a carrier installment plan and read the unlock conditions.

Trusting an old stock result
Symptom: the store or delivery date disappears at checkout. Fix: check the exact configuration again, use the checkout estimate as the current result, and wait for Apple’s pickup notification before traveling.
Assuming a price drop is automatically refundable
Symptom: a later sale falls within two weeks, but the promotion is excluded. Fix: read Apple’s current policy, including the 14-day window, exclusions and unit limit, and ask Apple to confirm eligibility.
Buying outside the United States
The procedures and terms described above come from Apple’s U.S. pages. Other countries can have different taxes, financing products, carrier-lock rules, consumer-return rights, trade-in programs and pickup availability. Use your country’s Apple Store and local carrier or retailer pages, and compare prices in the currency and service terms that apply to your address. Do not transfer the U.S. $899 example, 14-day policy or lock details to another market without confirmation.
