Before paying for a used TECNO, Infinix, or itel phone, check its IMEI in two different ways: use the manufacturer or Carlcare service to help verify the device’s identity, and use a carrier, regulator, or other suitable checker to look for a lost-or-stolen block. These checks answer different questions. A matching IMEI or a clean result from one service is not a guarantee of ownership, authenticity, or acceptance on every network.
What to check—and what each result means

GSMA Device Check describes a green result as “The device IMEI is not currently flagged on the GSMA Block List.” That means it is not currently flagged in that registry; it is not universal clearance. GSMA status data comes from participating mobile operators and approved commercial device owners, so the records and coverage available can vary by market and by the time of the check. Find and compare the phone’s IMEI
- Ask to inspect the handset before paying. Open its dialer and enter
*#06#. Note each number shown; a dual-SIM phone may display more than one IMEI. - Compare the number in Settings. Check Settings → About phone or Status. Menu wording varies by model and region.
- Compare available labels. Check the box or device label if present. TECNO describes finding the IMEI through the dialer, phone-status settings, or box; Infinix’s Uzbekistan authentication page also lists the dialer, settings, and box. Refer to TECNO’s IMEI information and Infinix Uzbekistan’s authentication check.
If the seller will not let you see the IMEI, or the numbers do not match, pause the purchase. A mismatch is a serious warning that needs investigation, but by itself it does not prove the phone is counterfeit. Ask for proof of ownership and contact official brand support or the relevant carrier.
Check device identity with an official brand service
Use the manufacturer’s official service for the phone’s region, or Carlcare support where available. These services are regional, and the reviewed pages do not establish one lookup that works worldwide.

- TECNO: TECNO India offers an IMEI warranty check. If equipment information is unavailable, its page directs users to official after-sales support. See TECNO India’s warranty check.
- Infinix: The Uzbekistan page provides an IMEI authentication form. Use the relevant regional support site rather than assuming that form serves other countries: Infinix Uzbekistan’s authentication check.
- itel: The reviewed Nigeria and Philippines pages provide an IMEI field and describe the service as an authenticity query: itel Nigeria’s IMEI check and itel Philippines’ IMEI check.
- Carlcare: Carlcare identifies itself as an official customer-service provider for TECNO, Infinix, and itel, and its global warranty-check page accepts IMEI lookups: Carlcare warranty check.
Enter the IMEI only into an official service. If a lookup finds no record, first confirm the number was entered correctly and that you are using the right regional site. A missing result alone does not show that the phone is either counterfeit or genuine; ask the manufacturer or Carlcare to check through its official support channel.
Check whether the IMEI is blocked or reported
- Identify the appropriate local checker. Ask the carrier you intend to use or your country’s regulator which consumer device-status service applies. There is no single public blacklist endpoint established for every country.
- Run the check on the IMEI. If you use GSMA Device Check, a red result means the IMEI has been flagged on the GSMA Block List. GSMA says a device may be flagged after being reported lost or stolen, or because it is otherwise unsuitable for cellular networks.
- Follow up on any warning. If the phone is flagged, do not buy it unless the reporting organization or carrier resolves the status through its official process. If the checker’s device details describe a different model from the handset, treat that as a significant warning. GSMA says the device could be counterfeit or its electronic identity may have been tampered with.
GSMA’s FAQ advises consumers who believe a result is wrong to contact their wireless provider, which can verify account information and recent network activity. A checker result reflects its own available records; it cannot guarantee that an IMEI is clear with every network or will remain clear.

Test the intended network in person
If practical, insert a SIM for the carrier you plan to use and try a call or mobile data connection. This can reveal an immediate compatibility or service problem. Treat it as a functional test only: a connection working now does not prove the handset is genuine, establish ownership, or rule out a later block.

- The seller refuses to show the IMEI or will not allow basic inspection.
- The IMEI displayed by the phone differs from an available box or device label.
- A carrier, regulator, or blacklist checker reports the IMEI as flagged.
- A checker returns device details that do not match the handset.
- An official brand lookup gives no record and the seller cannot resolve the question through official support.
For a flagged status or an unexplained identity mismatch, do not rely on the seller’s assurance alone. Ask for proof of ownership and have the relevant carrier, regulator, manufacturer, or Carlcare investigate before you pay.
