Each service exposes a different response format and visibility rules. The exact “47-line script” in the title could not be verified, so this guide explains the documented endpoints and a reliable approach without claiming that particular code was tested.
What you need before checking a company
Find the company’s careers page and identify which applicant-tracking system hosts its listings. A Greenhouse board URL contains a board token; an Ashby hosted-board URL ends in the job-board name used by its public API. Lever’s postings endpoint also needs the company-specific site identifier. A company may use a different system, or more than one system, so checking these three providers will not cover every employer.

Use the public listings routes for a straightforward monitor. These routes are distinct from application-submission or authenticated recruiting APIs.

Greenhouse’s documentation explicitly states: “Job Board data is publicly available, so authentication is not required for any GET endpoints.” Its Job Board API is the relevant public route for reading listings; Greenhouse’s Harvest API is a separate authenticated API. Lever’s documentation ties the published state to jobs shown on the public job site. Deliberately select or account for this state rather than treating every posting state as a public opening. Lever postings API documentation.
Ashby’s public endpoint takes the board name from the final path segment of the organization’s hosted jobs.ashbyhq.com board URL. Compensation is optional, and its fields may be absent when the underlying posting has no compensation data. Ashby public job postings API.

How to build a useful cross-company check
- Record each company and board identifier. Save the careers-page URL, detected provider, and provider-specific token or name. Do not assume the company name itself is the identifier.
- Fetch through a provider-specific function. Call the documented public route for that provider, then check the HTTP status and parse the response according to that provider’s schema.
- Normalize only fields actually present. A practical common record can include company, title, location, department or team when supplied, posting URL, apply URL, and provider. Keep the original response or diagnostic details so a missing field or parsing error can be investigated.
- Interpret visibility intentionally. Use Greenhouse’s public board data, Lever’s published postings, and Ashby’s public published-postings endpoint. Do not mix internal or unlisted roles into a count meant to represent public openings.
- Report failures separately from zero results. Treat an invalid board identifier, unexpected response, HTTP error, or network failure as an unknown result—not as an empty jobs list.
These safeguards follow from the providers’ differing routes and visibility rules; they do not describe or verify the title’s specific 47-line script.
Why an empty result can be misleading
- The company identifier may be wrong, or the organization may use another ATS.
- The request may have failed or returned a different response shape than expected.
- The endpoint may show only published public roles; an unlisted or internal posting will not necessarily appear.
- The company may genuinely have no postings on that board at the time you checked.
Only the last case supports “no public openings on this board,” and even then it says nothing about other career sites, job boards, or recruiting systems. Preserve the provider, request status, and check time alongside the result if you need an auditable monitor.

Ashby also offers an authenticated jobPosting.list endpoint, but it is not interchangeable with the public job-board route. It requires the jobsRead permission and includes listed and unlisted postings by default; Ashby instructs users building public-facing experiences to set listedOnly=true. What job fields can you compare?
Do not assume all three providers return the same fields or that optional information is consistently populated. A third-party comparison repository reports field differences across 5,122 job adverts from 16 companies sampled on August 29, 2026; that is a bounded snapshot, not a representative measure of all employers or a guarantee about current coverage. For a basic monitor, prioritize the fields needed to identify and open a posting—title, location, posting or application URL—and retain provider-specific fields separately. Treat descriptions, departments, employment type, and compensation as optional data rather than requirements for every record.
