How to Check GST Notices, Orders and Hearing Updates on the GST Portal

To check a GST notice, order or hearing update, sign in to the official GST Portal and open the area for the specific proceeding. Additional notices, refund show-cause proceedings and demand-order appeals can use different menus, so there is no single inbox or route for every GST case.

Sign in to the GST Portal

Open the official GST Portal and sign in with your taxpayer credentials. GSTN’s login guidance covers first-time access and recovery of a username or password. Login may require an OTP sent to the registered contact details, so make sure you can access the registered email address and mobile number.

Choose the route that matches the proceeding

Use the proceeding type and document name on the communication to decide where to look. These GSTN-documented routes are specific examples; menus and available actions can vary by case.

What you are checking GST Portal route What to look for
Additional officer-issued notices or orders Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders Open the relevant notice or order. GSTN says documents covered by this functionality are also sent by SMS and email and shown on the taxpayer dashboard. GSTN functionality note.
Demand-order appeal Services > User Services > My Applications; select the appeal application type, enter a date range and search Review the application status, including labels such as “Hearing Notice Issued,” “Adjournment Granted” or “Appeal Order Passed.” GSTN appeal FAQ.
Refund show-cause notice GST RFD-08 Services > User Services > My Applications > Case Detail > Notice/Acknowledgement Open the RFD-08 case communication and check the options for a reply extension or hearing adjournment. GSTN RFD-08 guidance.
Notice to summon (specific enforcement workflow) Services > User Services > View Additional Notices and Orders > Notices folder > Reply for Notice to Summon Use the case-specific reply option to request an adjournment where available. This is the path described in GSTN’s December 2022 functionality material, not a general route for all notices. GSTN functionality material.

Find an appeal hearing date or status

For a demand-order appeal, use Services > User Services > My Applications, choose the relevant appeal application type, set a date range and search. Open the matching application and inspect its current status. The GSTN appeal FAQ lists “Hearing Notice Issued,” “Adjournment Granted” and “Appeal Order Passed” as possible status labels; they indicate different stages or outcomes, not interchangeable updates.

Check the notice for reply and hearing actions

Some actions appear within the case details rather than in a general notices list. For the GSTN-documented GST RFD-08 refund show-cause example, open Services > User Services > My Applications > Case Detail > Notice/Acknowledgement. The documented workflow allowed a taxpayer to request an extension of the reply due date or an adjournment after a hearing date had been fixed. Whether an option is available depends on the specific proceeding and current portal screen; follow the instructions on your communication.

For a Notice to Summon, GSTN’s December 2022 material describes a separate path through the Notices folder under View Additional Notices and Orders, followed by “Reply for Notice to Summon.” Treat that as a summons-specific workflow, not as the way to reply to every GST notice.

What to do if an order is not listed

Check the actual order and its instructions before concluding that it was never issued. GSTN’s SPL-02 guide distinguishes portal-issued demand orders, which can be selected in the form, from offline or manual orders that are absent from the portal and must be entered manually where the form requires them. A missing portal entry, by itself, does not establish that no order exists.

If you cannot access the account

Use the username or password recovery options described in GSTN’s login guidance. If sign-in requires an OTP, access to the email address or mobile number registered to the account may be necessary. Once logged in, verify the document in the relevant case area rather than relying only on an SMS or email notification.

Before acting on a notice or order

  • Match the route to the proceeding and document named in the communication; do not assume every item appears under Additional Notices/Orders.
  • Read the notice or order itself for its reply deadline, hearing details and instructions, then confirm the current options in the live portal.
  • For appeal proceedings, distinguish a hearing notice, an adjournment update and an appeal order by the displayed status.
  • For a complex notice, appeal or case-specific interpretation, consider getting help from a GST practitioner, chartered accountant or tax adviser. Portal guidance is procedural and is not advice on the merits of your case.
