How to Check GST Notices on the Portal and in Your Registered Email

Check both your GST account on the official GST portal and the email address registered with that account. A notice may be made available on the common portal or communicated to your registered email, so a missing email alert does not prove that no notice is waiting online.

Check the GST portal for notices and orders

  1. Go directly to the official GST portal and sign in to the taxpayer account. If you cannot sign in, use the portal’s login help and username or password recovery options. GSTN’s login guidance describes recovery through registered contact channels; avoid entering credentials through links in unsolicited messages.
  2. Open Dashboard > Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders.
  3. Find the relevant item and select its View link to open the case details. Depending on the case, the page may show separate notice, application, or order tabs; available tabs and actions can vary.
  4. Open and read the document itself. Check the form, issuing authority, relevant period, requested action, and deadline stated in that document.

The route above is documented in materials from the Goods and Services Tax Council’s 54th GST Council Meeting. The CBIC instruction index also lists a 23 November 2023 instruction concerning service of notice summaries in FORM GST DRC-01 and electronic uploading of order summaries in FORM GST DRC-07. These references concern those forms; do not assume every GST notice follows the same workflow.

Check the email address registered with GST

Check the inbox for the email address recorded in the GST account, as well as its spam or junk folders. GSTN’s registration instructions say that future correspondence is sent to the registered email address and mobile number, and specifically advise checking spam when an expected OTP email is missing. That correspondence guidance does not guarantee that every notice will result in a delivered email alert.

If the registered mailbox belongs to a former employee or adviser, or you cannot access it, resolve access and contact-detail maintenance through the proper GST account process. GSTN cautions users not to disclose account credentials or OTPs or follow suspicious URLs received by email.

Why check both channels?

Channel What to check Why it matters
GST portal Sign in and open View Additional Notices/Orders, then view the relevant case details. Making a communication available on the common portal is one of the service modes listed in the section 169 text reproduced in the Goods and Services Tax Council’s 52nd GST Council Meeting.
Registered email Check the registered address’s inbox and spam or junk folders. Communication to the email address provided at registration or later amended is also listed among the section 169 service modes. An inaccessible or outdated mailbox can cause messages to be missed.

Because portal availability and registered-email communication are both recognized modes, checking only email can leave a portal notice undiscovered. Conversely, an email should not be treated as authentic just because it appears to concern GST: navigate to the portal directly and verify the case there.

What to do if you find a notice

  • Save or download the document and note its form, issuing authority, period, requested action, and stated due date.
  • Use the document’s specific instructions and case details to identify the appropriate response. There is no single deadline that applies to every GST notice.
  • If the deadline, demand, service, or required response is unclear, consult a qualified Indian GST practitioner or compliance adviser. The portal-navigation information alone cannot determine whether a particular notice is valid or what response is appropriate in your case.
