To check a GST notice or demand order, sign in to the GST Portal and open Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders. Select View beside the relevant case. The Case Details page separates documents into NOTICES, REPLIES and ORDERS. Download the complete attachment and use the date and instructions in that document—not just the portal label—to determine what you must do and by when.
Where GST notices and orders appear
The official assessment user guide describes the route for proceedings under sections 73 and 74 as Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders. After choosing View for a case, the Case Details screen displays separate tabs for notices, replies and orders. You can follow the documented workflow in the GST Portal assessment user guide.

If you are asking, “Where can I check GST notices on the portal?”, this is the starting point for the documented assessment workflow. You need the taxpayer’s authorised login, not merely an email link or a PDF forwarded by someone else. An email may alert you that a document exists, but the case record and downloadable attachment are the more reliable places to establish what was issued.

- Open Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders.

- Open each applicable tab—NOTICES, REPLIES and ORDERS.
- Open and download every available attachment, including annexures, working sheets and hearing documents.
Portal labels and screen layouts can change. If the current menu differs, use the portal’s current navigation and confirm the document from the case details page rather than relying on an old screenshot or an email link. Keep a note of the date and time you accessed the case, particularly where a deadline is close.

Notice, reply and order are different documents
A notice starts or advances a proceeding; a reply is your response; an order records the authority’s decision. Treating a notice as an order can cause you to miss a response opportunity, while treating an order as a notice can cause you to miss the appeal limitation period.
| Document stage | What to inspect | Common GST form reference | Typical next action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Notice or show-cause communication | Form, invoked section, allegations, tax period, proposed tax/interest/penalty, reply date and hearing details | FORM GST DRC-01 is described as a summary of a show cause notice | Prepare and submit the response by the date stated in the notice; attend a hearing if directed |
| Taxpayer response | Submission date, acknowledgement, attachments and any portal status | FORM GST DRC-06 is described as the taxpayer’s reply to a show cause notice | Keep the filed form and acknowledgement; provide additional information only through an authorised channel |
| Demand order | Communication date, confirmed tax, interest, penalty, payment instructions, reasoning and appeal information | FORM GST DRC-07 is described as a summary of an order | Assess payment, rectification or appeal options using the full order and current law |
The form roles are set out in the portal’s GST Forms Available on the GST Common Portal. A summary form does not replace the attached notice or order. Read the complete document, including its annexures and calculations. A DRC-01 label tells you that the portal has classified an item as a show-cause summary; it does not by itself establish the amount ultimately payable. Likewise, DRC-07 is an order summary, not a substitute for the reasoned order and its supporting schedules.
How to check a notice and its reply deadline
1. Open the notice attachment
In the NOTICES tab, open the file associated with the proceeding. Record the form number, issue date, GSTIN, legal section, tax period, amount proposed, reply due date and hearing date or venue. Save the original file in the case folder with a date-based filename. If several files are listed, download each one instead of assuming the first PDF is complete.
Look for instructions about the permitted submission method, supporting records and whether a personal hearing is scheduled. Note whether the notice asks for a reconciliation, invoices, books, payment evidence, an explanation of input tax credit or another specific record. Those instructions tell you what a useful response must address.
2. Check the document, not a generic calendar rule
There is no single reply period that can safely be applied to every GST notice. The deadline and required response depend on the document and proceeding. The assessment guide specifically describes a DRC-06 workflow for proceedings under sections 73 and 74; it does not establish one response period for all GST notices. Follow the date and instructions printed in your notice.
Do not calculate a reply deadline from the date you happen to open the portal unless the document expressly makes that date relevant. Preserve the notice showing its issue date and stated due date. If the date appears inconsistent, seek clarification through an authorised channel promptly and keep evidence of the request; do not silently assume that the later date controls.
3. Confirm the facts before preparing a response
- GSTIN and legal name of the taxpayer
- Tax period and return or invoice references
- Section and nature of the alleged short payment, wrongful credit or other non-compliance
- Tax, interest and penalty amounts, with the calculation or annexure
- Reply deadline, hearing date, submission method and file-size or format requirements
- Whether the notice asks for records, reconciliations, explanations or payment
Compare the allegations with your returns, ledgers, invoices and payment records. Separate the proposed tax, interest and penalty so that an apparent total can be checked against the underlying figures. If a schedule or annexure is missing, record that fact and request or obtain the missing document rather than preparing a response from an incomplete calculation.

The REPLIES tab shows submissions already made for the case. For the sections 73/74 workflow, the portal manual provides for adding or viewing a response in FORM GST DRC-06. Download the filed reply and acknowledgement, then compare the submission timestamp with the deadline in the notice. A draft saved on the portal is not the same as a successfully filed reply.

Check that the acknowledgement relates to the same GSTIN and case. Keep the final submitted form, uploaded attachments and acknowledgement together. If an employee or adviser prepared the response, make sure the authorised account actually completed final submission; an upload that was never submitted should not be treated as a filed DRC-06.
How to download and verify a GST demand order
If you are asking, “How do I download a GST demand order?”, use the same case route and select the ORDERS tab. The order may have more than one attachment, so inspect the summary, reasoned order and every annexure.
- Return to Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders and open the case.
- Select the ORDERS tab.
- Open the order and every attachment. DRC-07 is the order summary reference; the reasoned order and annexures contain the operative details.
- Record the date the order was communicated or made available, as shown in the document and portal record.
- Check the confirmed tax, interest, penalty, demand period, payment reference and any adjustment of amounts already paid or recovered.
- Save the PDF and acknowledgement in a read-only case folder and retain the download date for your records.
Verify the GSTIN, legal name, tax period and issuing authority before comparing amounts. Then reconcile the order with your returns, ledgers, invoices, payment challans and earlier correspondence. Check whether the order explains how the authority moved from the proposed amount in the notice to the confirmed amount. Note any difference between tax, interest and penalty, and identify credits for amounts already paid or recovered.

Downloading an order is therefore only the first step. The communication date, complete reasoning and demand breakdown are essential if you are considering payment, rectification or an appeal.
Notice reply deadline versus appeal deadline
These are two separate clocks. A reply deadline belongs to the notice stage. An appeal limitation period starts from communication of a decision or order and applies to the appeal route described by the law and current portal guidance.
Reply deadline for a notice
Use the reply date, hearing details and invoked provision in the actual notice. Do not replace that date with the ordinary appeal period. If the notice is unclear, seek clarification through the authorised channel promptly and preserve evidence of your request. A notice can require a response even though no order has yet been issued, so waiting for an appeal window is not a safe response strategy.
Appeal deadline for a demand order
The GST Portal FAQ on filing an appeal against a demand order in FORM GST APL-01 states that the ordinary period for an appeal to the Appellate Authority is three months from the date the decision or order is communicated. It also says the authority may condone a delay of up to one further month when satisfied that sufficient cause prevented timely filing. These periods concern an appeal against a communicated decision or order, not a response to every notice.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe same FAQ states that a minimum pre-deposit of 10% of the disputed tax is required before filing an appeal. Confirm the current statutory provision, the amount treated as disputed tax and any additional payment requirement for your order before submitting APL-01. A portal FAQ is procedural guidance; it should not be treated as a substitute for reviewing the current law and the specific order.

For example, if an order has been communicated but the portal also displays an older issue date, preserve both records and obtain advice on which communication date governs limitation. Do not postpone action while trying to resolve a date discrepancy informally.
Appeal menu path
The FAQ’s portal route is Services > User Services > My Applications > Appeal to Appellate Authority > New Application, followed by selecting Demand Order. Check the order details, eligibility, pre-deposit and limitation calculation before filing. Keep the acknowledgement and the payment reference linked to the appeal.
Before starting an appeal, assemble the complete order, proof of communication, demand calculation, records supporting your grounds and evidence of the pre-deposit. The portal path helps you locate the application; it does not determine whether an appeal is legally available or which grounds should be pleaded.
Special case: FORM GST DRC-01D
DRC-01D has a specific payment instruction that must not be generalized to other notices. The GST Portal’s 2024 functionality compilation says that a person receiving FORM GST DRC-01D must pay the amount specified within seven days from the date of issue, failing which recovery proceedings shall be initiated. The wording is: “They are required to pay the amount specified in Form GST DRC-01D within 7 days from the date of its issue failing which recovery proceedings shall be initiated against them.” Read the document and the current portal instruction to confirm that the form is actually DRC-01D and that the amount and issue date match. The source is the GST Portal functionality compilation for April–June 2024.
Do not apply the seven-day DRC-01D instruction to DRC-01, DRC-07 or another form. Different forms and proceedings can carry different legal consequences and dates. If the form, issue date or amount appears wrong, preserve the original document and seek prompt professional advice; do not assume that a general notice rule changes the specific DRC-01D instruction.
A practical document-checking checklist
Use this checklist whenever you open a new notice or order:
- Identity: GSTIN, legal name, registration status and issuing authority are correct.
- Scope: Tax period, return period, invoices, e-way bills or other transactions identified in the attachment match the case.
- Authority: The section, form and proceeding type are stated and understandable.
- Money: Tax, interest and penalty are shown separately; calculations and credits for amounts already paid are attached.
- Dates: Issue date, communication date, reply date, hearing date and any payment date are recorded separately.
- Attachments: Every annexure opens correctly and is saved; do not rely on a missing or corrupted download.
- Status: The portal shows whether a reply was filed, an order was issued, payment was made or recovery action is pending.
- Evidence: Download receipts, acknowledgements, challans and correspondence, and preserve the original PDFs.
Use a simple chronology for the case: notice issued, notice communicated, reply filed, hearing held, order issued, order communicated, payment made and appeal filed. Keeping these events separate prevents the common mistake of using an issue date where a communication date matters, or an appeal deadline where a reply deadline is required.

What to do when a document or date is missing
The case appears but the attachment will not open
Try the portal’s current download control, sign out and back in, and check whether a separate annexure link is listed. Record the error, date and time, and retain a screenshot for the case file. Do not assume that an unreadable attachment means there is no deadline. If the problem continues, contact the authorised portal or jurisdictional channel with the case reference and evidence of the failed download.

The reply is filed but not visible
Check the acknowledgement number, filing timestamp and the correct GSTIN and case. A saved draft, an upload without final submission and a generated acknowledgement are different states. If the acknowledgement cannot be verified, contact the authorised portal or jurisdictional channel promptly with the evidence you have. Keep the submitted files unchanged while the status is investigated.
The order date and portal date differ
Use the communication date relevant to the appeal rule and document the source of that date. Because limitation can turn on communication, obtain professional advice quickly rather than waiting for the portal record to resolve the discrepancy. Save both the order PDF and any portal screen that displays the date.
The notice names the wrong taxpayer, period or amount
Do not edit the document or ignore it. Preserve the original file, identify the mismatch in a written response or authorised representation, and obtain advice on the available correction, objection or appeal route. A wrong detail can be material, but it still needs to be raised through the proper channel.

A hearing is listed but no separate hearing file appears
Read the notice for the hearing date, time, venue or submission instructions and check all tabs and attachments. Record how and when you sought clarification if details are incomplete. Do not treat the absence of a separate hearing attachment as cancellation of a hearing mentioned in the notice.

For a disputed or consequential case, consult a qualified Indian GST practitioner. The correct action depends on the facts, the invoked provision and the current law; a portal label alone cannot tell you whether payment, a reply, rectification or appeal is appropriate. If you accept only part of a demand, identify the accepted and disputed components separately and preserve the calculations used for any payment or pre-deposit.
Keep a defensible GST case file
Create one folder per GSTIN and proceeding. Store the notice, all annexures, filed DRC-06 replies, acknowledgements, order and DRC-07 summary, payment challans, appeal forms, pre-deposit proof and correspondence. Use filenames that include the form and date, such as DRC-01_notice_2026-10-16.pdf, and keep an index listing each document’s issue or communication date. Restrict access to authorised staff because the files can contain financial and personal information.
Keep the original downloaded PDFs as well as working copies used for annotations. Record who downloaded or submitted each document and retain acknowledgement numbers. This makes it easier to demonstrate what was received, what was filed and when, especially if the portal later displays a changed status.

Important limits of portal guidance
The GST Portal manuals and FAQs explain navigation and selected procedural rules, but they do not decide the merits of a demand. Menu names, downloadable documents and functionality can change. Before acting, verify the current screen, download the full document, confirm GSTIN, period, section, amount, dates and attachments, and obtain professional advice where the amount, limitation period or recovery risk is significant.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I check GST notices on the portal?
Sign in and go to Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders. Select View for the case, then open the NOTICES tab and download the complete attachment.
How do I know whether I have a notice or an order?
Check the document and form reference. DRC-01 is described as a summary of a show-cause notice, DRC-06 as the taxpayer’s reply, and DRC-07 as a summary of an order. Read the attached document rather than relying only on the label.
Where can I see the reply due date?
Open the notice attachment and read its stated reply date and hearing instructions. There is no single reply period that applies safely to every GST notice.
Is the appeal deadline the same as the notice reply deadline?
No. The reply deadline comes from the notice. The GST Portal FAQ describes an ordinary three-month period from communication of a decision or order for an appeal, with possible condonation of up to one further month for sufficient cause.
What pre-deposit is mentioned for an appeal?
The cited GST Portal FAQ states that a minimum 10% of disputed tax is required before filing an appeal. Confirm the current law and how disputed tax is calculated for your order.
What is special about FORM GST DRC-01D?
The GST Portal functionality compilation for April–June 2024 states that the specified amount is to be paid within seven days from issue, failing which recovery proceedings shall be initiated. Do not apply this period to other forms.
What should I do if an attachment will not open?
Try the current download control, sign in again and check for separate annexure links. Record the error and time, preserve evidence and seek help promptly; an unreadable file does not prove that no deadline exists.
The Bottom Line
Use Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders, inspect the NOTICES, REPLIES and ORDERS tabs, and download every attachment. Read the actual document for its facts and deadline: a notice reply date is not an appeal deadline. For a demand order, the portal FAQ describes three months from communication for an ordinary appeal, possible condonation of up to one further month and a 10% disputed-tax pre-deposit. FORM GST DRC-01D carries a separate seven-day payment instruction in the April–June 2024 portal functionality note. Verify the current portal and law, preserve acknowledgements and obtain professional advice for a disputed or high-risk case.
