There you can review battery health, cycle count, electrical current, and run a discharge test. You can also see the current charge percentage in ChromeOS, but that number is not the same as battery health.
Open the Chromebook Diagnostics battery panel
- Open the launcher and search for Diagnostics. Alternatively, select the time, then go to Settings > About ChromeOS > Diagnostics.
- Choose Battery in Diagnostics to view the available battery readings.
- If Diagnostics is missing, check your ChromeOS version. Google lists ChromeOS version 90 as the minimum for the app. Google’s Diagnostics instructions describe the app and its battery tests.
What the battery readings mean
The readings describe different things, so treat them as separate indicators rather than a single battery grade.

| Current charge | How much charge is available now; this is the percentage shown in ChromeOS. |
| Battery health | How the battery’s full-charge capacity compares with its design capacity. It reflects condition, not the charge available at this moment. |
| Cycle count | Battery-use history, reported separately from charge and health. |
| Electrical current and discharge test | Electrical current is shown in the Battery panel. The discharge test measures charge and discharge rate over a fixed period. |
Google’s ChromeOS documentation distinguishes charge, cycle count, and health; its enterprise device details define health as full-charge capacity divided by design capacity. Google does not set one universal consumer threshold for a “good” health percentage or cycle count. ChromeOS battery field definitions

Run the Battery section’s discharge test if you are investigating unusual charging or draining. A very low rate can point to a battery or charging-port issue, but it is a troubleshooting signal—not a diagnosis of which part has failed. If the result is concerning or the problem continues, follow the charging checks below and contact the Chromebook manufacturer if needed. Google’s Diagnostics guidance

If your Chromebook will not charge
- Check that the charger is firmly connected to the Chromebook and the power outlet, and confirm the outlet works.
- Disconnect and reconnect the charger at both ends.
- Leave the Chromebook connected to power for at least 30 minutes, then check whether it charges.
- If it still will not charge, use Diagnostics to check the battery and contact the manufacturer for support.

Why charging may stop below 100%
If the Chromebook stops charging before it reaches full, check whether Optimized charging is enabled. On supported devices, this setting can delay a full charge or use an adaptive or fixed limit of approximately 80%. In that case, a charge below 100% can be intentional rather than evidence of a fault. The feature’s availability and behavior depend on the device and settings. Google’s Optimized charging guide

About the Pixel “knock-knock” wording
Google’s Pixel support documentation covers Device health & support and battery diagnostics on supported phones, but it does not establish a Pixel feature called a “knock-knock gesture.” That phrase is not part of the Chromebook battery-check steps.
