Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Android has no single battery-health screen. The exact information depends on the phone maker, model and software version. On a Pixel, Settings can show charge level, battery-use history, diagnostics and, on some models, an estimated remaining capacity. On a Galaxy, Samsung Members can test battery status, wired-cable charging and wireless charging. Many other Android phones show charge and usage but not a manufacturer capacity estimate.
Charging speed is similarly model-dependent. A Pixel’s official consumer screen provides an estimated time to full rather than a universal live wattage figure. A charger’s printed wattage is only its maximum output; the phone, cable, charging protocol, temperature and settings determine the power actually accepted.

Battery percentage, battery usage and battery health are different
Before checking anything, identify which question you are asking:
- Charge level: how much energy is in the battery now, shown as a percentage.
- Battery usage: which apps or system functions consumed charge since the last full charge. This is a history of consumption, not a measurement of battery capacity.
- Battery health: an estimate of how much capacity remains compared with the battery when it was new.
- Charging speed: how quickly the phone is currently accepting power. It changes with the adapter, cable, protocol, temperature, phone activity and battery state.
Google explicitly separates Pixel usage charts from battery-health status. A usage chart can explain short runtime without proving that the battery is worn out. Conversely, a reduced capacity can shorten runtime even when no single app appears unusual. See Google’s definitions in its Pixel battery-level guidance and Pixel battery-health guidance.

Take readings under repeatable conditions when comparing results. Note the starting percentage, whether the screen is on, which charger and cable you used, whether the phone is warm, and whether you were gaming or streaming. A single percentage or a single slow session is not enough to diagnose a worn battery.
Which Android phones expose each reading?
| Phone or feature | Capacity-health estimate | Usage history | Charging checks | Important limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Pixel | Available only on certain models; “Reduced” means estimated capacity below 80%. | Settings > Battery > Battery usage. | Settings > Battery can show estimated time until full while charging; Pixel diagnostics are available on Pixel 6 and later, including Pixel Fold. | Several Pixel models do not display health status. |
| Samsung Galaxy | Samsung Members reports a battery-status diagnostic result, but the exact menu and result vary by model and software. | Battery settings and Device care provide usage and device information. | Samsung Members can test battery status, cable charging and wireless charging. | Tests and labels differ by model, Android version and Samsung Members version. |
| Other Android brands | Not established as a universal Android feature; consult the maker’s support instructions for the exact model. | Usually available under a Battery section, but labels differ. | Look for charging information, diagnostics or an accessory test supplied by the manufacturer. | Do not assume Pixel or Galaxy thresholds or paths apply. |
The official documentation supports these Pixel and Galaxy examples, not a complete ranking of every Android manufacturer. A settings search for “battery health,” “diagnostics,” or “charging” can help locate a manufacturer-specific page, but a missing result may simply mean that the model does not expose that measurement.

See the current charge and estimated time to full
- Connect the Pixel to a charger.
- Wait briefly for the phone to recognize the connection.
- Open Settings and select Battery.
- Read the remaining charge and, while charging, the approximate time until a full charge.
Google presents this as an estimate. It is useful for planning and for spotting an unexpectedly slow session, but it is not a guaranteed live readout of charging watts. The exact labels and some steps require Android 14 or later. The official route is documented at Google Pixel Help.

For a fair comparison, begin at a similar percentage each time and leave the phone idle for several minutes after plugging it in. The estimate can change as the phone measures temperature, battery state and activity. A long estimate while the phone is hot or actively performing demanding work does not by itself prove that the adapter is defective.
Review what used the battery
- Open Settings > Battery > Battery usage.
- Use the chart to view consumption since the last full charge.
- Switch between the app and system views, where available, to identify unusually high consumption.
This screen answers “what used my charge?” It does not answer “how much of the original capacity remains?” Background activity, weak cellular signal, high brightness and heat can all affect the chart without indicating permanent battery wear. If one application dominates the list, update it, restrict unnecessary background use or check its own settings before concluding that the battery needs replacement.
Run Pixel battery diagnostics
- Open Settings > Battery > Battery Diagnostics.
- Follow the on-screen checks and read the resulting guidance.
Google lists Battery Diagnostics support for Pixel 6 and later, including Pixel Fold. If the menu is absent, the phone or software build may not support it; do not substitute a different model’s path. Details are in Google’s Pixel battery troubleshooting guide.

Check Pixel battery-health status when the model supports it
Google says Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro do not indicate battery-health status. Owners of those models should use charge behavior, usage history and diagnostics rather than searching for a health percentage that the software does not provide.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
On a Pixel model that does expose the status, Reduced means the estimated remaining capacity is below 80% of the capacity when new. This is a manufacturer estimate, not an independent laboratory measurement. It should be interpreted with the phone’s age, runtime and diagnostic result rather than as a precise prediction of how many hours remain.
Understand Google’s replacement figures
Google’s published replacement guidance is Pixel-specific:
- For Pixel 3 through Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Fold, replacement is recommended when estimated remaining capacity falls below 80% or the battery reaches 800 charge cycles.
- For Pixel 8a and later, the corresponding figures are below 80% or 1,000 charge cycles.
Do not apply those numbers to Samsung, Motorola, OnePlus or another Android brand. Google also describes battery-health assistance that begins staged voltage adjustment at 200 charge cycles and continues gradually until 1,000 cycles. That describes the feature’s behavior, not a universal replacement rule. The model list and qualifications are maintained in Google’s Pixel battery-health documentation.
Cycle count is not the same as the number of times you plugged in. A partial discharge and recharge can contribute to a cycle, while the phone’s internal accounting determines the count. If your model does not display a count, do not infer one from calendar age alone.

Use Samsung Members diagnostics
- Open the Samsung Members app.
- Select Diagnostics, then Phone diagnostics.
- Run an individual test or choose Test all.
- For a charging problem, run the tests for Battery status, Cable charging and, if relevant, Wireless charging.
Samsung’s UK instructions describe the alternate route Members > Support > Get started > Phone diagnostics. Device Care diagnostics are available on Galaxy devices running Android 12 or later. Samsung warns that available tests and menu names vary by model, software version and app version. Run the cable and wireless tests separately. A successful battery-status test does not prove that a particular cable, port or charging pad can deliver the expected speed. Conversely, a failed cable test does not automatically mean the battery is worn; it may identify the accessory or connection as the limiting part.
Check fast-charging settings
- Open Settings > Battery > Charging settings.
- Look for the fast-charging option on supported devices.
- Turn it on if you want the phone to use its supported fast-charging mode.
A standard charger does not provide fast charging merely because it fits the port. A wireless pad must also support fast charging, and the phone must support the relevant mode. Samsung’s menu may differ by model. If the setting is unavailable, it may be unsupported on that device or controlled by another software menu; do not assume a hidden toggle will unlock a faster mode.
How to check charging speed without being misled
Use the phone’s own estimate first
For Pixels, connect the phone, wait for recognition and read the estimated time remaining under Settings > Battery. Compare sessions under similar conditions: the same battery percentage range, screen state and temperature. A session that slows near the top of the charge is not automatically faulty; phones commonly reduce power as the battery approaches full.
On a Galaxy, use the charging notification together with Samsung Members’ cable or wireless test where available. The diagnostic result helps identify whether the phone recognizes the charging path; it is not necessarily a numeric wattage measurement. If neither the phone nor the manufacturer’s diagnostic screen reports watts, there is no universal Android setting that can supply a guaranteed number.
Understand what the charger’s wattage means
Google’s guidance is concise: “Higher wattage usually means faster charging but your phone must also support the higher speed.” Read the full explanation at Google Pixel Help’s charging guide. A 65-watt adapter does not force 65 watts into a phone designed for less. The phone negotiates a supported voltage and current, and the cable and charging standard can limit that negotiation.
The printed rating is therefore a ceiling, not a promise. A phone may accept less power because fast charging is disabled, the adapter does not support the required protocol, the cable is unsuitable, the battery is near full, or temperature controls have reduced input. Test with a known-compatible adapter and cable before buying a higher-rated accessory.

Do not treat Android developer data as a universal consumer meter
Android’s BatteryManager documentation describes battery and charging-state data for app developers. It does not establish that every phone exposes exact live charging watts in Settings. If your model does not show wattage, avoid presenting an app’s estimate as an official measurement. Different apps may report different values because manufacturers expose different sensors and software interfaces.

- Record the setup. Note the phone model, Android version, adapter rating, cable type and whether you are charging wired or wirelessly.
- Choose a starting range. Compare two sessions beginning at roughly the same percentage rather than comparing a nearly empty battery with one already near full.
- Prepare the phone. Stop gaming, navigation, video streaming and large downloads. Leave the screen off if possible.
- Check the environment. Keep the phone out of direct sun and remove heat-trapping coverings. Let it return to a normal operating temperature.
- Wait for recognition. Give the phone a moment after connection, then read the Pixel time estimate or charging notification.
- Repeat with one change. Swap only the cable, adapter or charging pad so you can identify which part changes the result.
- Use diagnostics. Run Samsung Members tests or Pixel Battery Diagnostics when supported, and save any failure message for service.
This method distinguishes a slow but normal session from a repeatable accessory or phone fault without claiming a laboratory measurement.
Fix charging that is slower than expected
- Stop demanding tasks. End gaming, video streaming, navigation and other heavy use while testing. Samsung says these activities raise temperature and can slow charging.
- Confirm fast charging is enabled. Check the Samsung charging-settings path above, or look for the Pixel’s charging indication and estimated time. A disabled mode can make a compatible setup appear defective.
- Use a compatible adapter and cable. Match the charger to the phone’s supported charging speed and protocol. A higher number on the adapter is not proof of higher input.
- Inspect the port and connectors. Switch off the phone if necessary, look for lint or other debris and check for bent, loose or damaged parts. Do not force an object into the port or continue using visibly damaged equipment.
- Control temperature. Move the phone out of direct sun, remove insulating materials and let it cool or warm to a normal operating temperature. Google notes that some Pixels automatically adjust charging to manage phone and battery temperatures, which can reduce speed.
- Test wireless charging separately. Re-center the phone, remove thick or magnetic cases and verify that both the pad and phone support the intended wireless mode. Use Samsung Members’ wireless-charging test on a supported Galaxy.
- Run diagnostics. On a Galaxy, use Samsung Members for battery, cable and wireless tests. On a Pixel 6 or later, open Battery Diagnostics. A failed cable test points toward the cable or connection; a battery-status result points toward the phone’s battery system.
- Recheck the Pixel estimate. After reconnecting, allow the phone a moment and read the updated time-to-full estimate. If the estimate remains unexpectedly long with a cool phone and known-compatible accessories, contact the manufacturer or an authorized repair provider.
Samsung’s detailed charging checklist is at Samsung Support UK. Google’s temperature and accessory guidance is at Google Pixel Help.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When the result means the battery may need service
- A manufacturer health result below its stated threshold, a persistent diagnostic failure or sudden shutdowns at moderate percentages are stronger service signals than one day of short runtime.
- Rapid drain caused by one app, poor signal or high brightness may be correctable without replacing the battery; inspect Battery usage first.
- Swelling, a lifted screen, unusual odor, smoke or extreme heat is a safety issue. Stop charging and using the phone and arrange professional service; do not puncture, compress or open the battery.
- Keep model and regional specifications in mind. Pixel’s 80%-and-cycle figures are not Android-wide standards, and Samsung Members’ result labels are not guaranteed to match a Pixel status.
Back up important data before arranging repair. A health estimate is not a warranty decision, and replacement eligibility, service pricing and repair methods depend on the exact model and region.
Choosing a replacement charger or cable
Buy only after checking the phone’s supported charging speed and protocol. The useful choice is a charger that matches your phone’s supported charging speed, paired with a certified charging cable suitable for that mode. A compatible USB-C power adapter can solve an inadequate-accessory problem, but no generic wattage recommendation is safe without the exact phone model and regional specification. Samsung advises approved or certified accessories, and Google cautions that higher wattage helps only when the phone supports it.
Replace a cable that is frayed, loose, bent at the connector or repeatedly disconnects. Do not assume that a USB-C plug guarantees identical charging performance: cable construction and the supported charging standard still matter. If the original adapter and cable work normally on another compatible phone but not yours, the phone’s port or charging system deserves inspection.

What Android cannot tell you universally
There is no Android-wide menu path, capacity threshold or guaranteed live-wattage display. Manufacturer overlays, model generations and software updates change the labels. If your phone lacks a health estimate, record runtime from a consistent charge range, review battery usage, test with known-compatible accessories and use the manufacturer’s diagnostics. Those observations are useful for deciding whether to troubleshoot or seek service, but they should not be converted into a made-up capacity percentage.
Similarly, do not compare a Pixel’s “Reduced” status directly with a Samsung Members label or with a third-party app’s number. They may use different estimates, thresholds and data. The meaningful comparison is whether the manufacturer’s own guidance identifies a problem and whether the symptom persists under controlled conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check battery health on an Android phone?
There is no universal Android path. On supported Pixel models, use the battery-health status in Settings; Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 series, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro do not show that status. On Galaxy phones, open Samsung Members, choose Diagnostics or Phone diagnostics, and run Battery status. Other brands require their own model-specific support instructions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDoes battery usage show battery health?
No. Battery usage shows which apps and system functions consumed charge since the last full charge. Battery health is an estimate of remaining capacity compared with when the battery was new. A high-use app can explain short runtime without proving battery wear.
How can I see charging speed on a Pixel?
Plug in the phone, wait briefly, then open Settings > Battery. Pixel can show an estimated time until full while charging. Google does not present this as a universal live wattage meter, so treat it as an estimate.
Why is my Android phone charging slowly?
Common causes include disabled fast charging, an incompatible adapter or cable, demanding use, high or low temperature, port debris or damage, and wireless-pad incompatibility. Stop heavy use, check the charging setting, try compatible accessories, inspect the connectors and run the manufacturer’s diagnostics.
Will a higher-wattage charger make any Android phone charge faster?
Not necessarily. Google says higher wattage usually means faster charging only when the phone supports the higher speed. The phone, charging protocol, cable, temperature and settings determine the power it accepts.

Google’s figures are Pixel-specific: below 80% estimated capacity or 800 cycles for Pixel 3 through Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Fold; below 80% or 1,000 cycles for Pixel 8a and later. Do not apply those thresholds to other Android brands.
The Bottom Line
Use the manufacturer’s own screen first: Pixel Battery and Battery Diagnostics, or Samsung Members diagnostics. Separate charge percentage, usage history, capacity health and charging speed, then test with a cool phone and compatible accessories. A charger’s wattage label is only a maximum; the phone and its charging system decide the actual rate.
