To see the Android security patch installed on your phone, open Settings > About phone > Android version and read the “Android security update” field. To find out how long your exact TECNO, Infinix, or itel model is promised updates, check an official statement for that model and your market: Android version upgrades and security patch support are separate commitments, and one model’s terms do not establish a brand-wide policy.
How to check the Android security patch on your phone
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone (or About tablet), then Android version.
- Read the entry labelled Android security update. Record that date as the Android security patch level shown by the phone.
Google says this screen also shows the Android version number, Google Play system status, and build number. The Google Play system update is a separate entry; do not report its date as the Android security patch date. Menu names can vary across phone software. Google’s Android version and update instructions describe the general paths.

How to check whether an update is available
Google’s general path is Settings > System > Software updates. The phone may show separate options or statuses for software, security, and Google Play updates. If those labels or menus are not present, use the instructions for your model from its manufacturer or ask your carrier.

An update listed as available is different from a support promise. A manufacturer’s stated support period does not mean every device has already received each update: availability can depend on the model, region, and rollout. Google notes that update schedules vary by device, manufacturer, and mobile carrier, and directs owners of non-Pixel devices to the manufacturer or carrier for schedule information.

How to verify your phone’s support period
- Identify the exact phone. Record its full model name or number and country or regional variant. Similar model names may have different product pages or terms.
- Find an official statement for that model and market. Check the manufacturer’s product page, launch announcement, or support page rather than relying on a general brand claim or an unrelated model’s listing.
- Separate the two kinds of support. Note how many Android version upgrades are promised and how long security patch updates are promised. A figure for one does not establish the other.
- Keep the wording and date in context. Record when the announcement was published, or when an undated product page was accessed, and include any regional or rollout conditions.
- Distinguish promise from delivery. A published commitment is not confirmation that an update is currently available on your handset. Check the phone’s update screen for availability.
- Do not fill gaps by inference. If there is no verifiable statement for your exact model and market, ask the manufacturer or carrier; report the duration as unconfirmed.

These manufacturer statements illustrate why support has to be compared by both Android upgrades and security patches. They are examples for the named phones or series, not evidence of a universal TECNO or Infinix policy.

How to read a support claim accurately
- “Two Android upgrades” describes major Android version upgrades; it is not a statement of two years of security patches unless the manufacturer separately says so.
- “Three years of security updates” describes a patch-support period, not necessarily how frequently patches arrive or when a specific handset receives them.
- “Up to Android 16” names an intended version endpoint; check the device for actual availability rather than treating the claim as proof that Android 16 has reached every unit.
- A regional product page is evidence for the model and market it covers, not automatically for a similarly named phone sold elsewhere.
