Meta says you can ask Muse to forget a specific detail it has learned, and you can inspect and edit files in your dedicated Muse virtual machine, including memory files. The official material does not explain a universal screen-by-screen route or establish that either action deletes all memory, conversations, backups, or information belonging to other household members.

If you want Muse to stop remembering something in particular, tell Muse to forget that specific detail. Meta describes this as a user control in its September 8, 2026 launch announcement, which says users can tell Muse to “forget” specific things it has learned.

Be precise about the detail you mean. Meta’s statement supports asking Muse to forget an item; it does not say that this request erases every copy of the information or removes the conversation in which you shared it.

Meta says each person has a dedicated cloud virtual machine (VM) for their data, and that users can inspect and edit files stored there, including Muse’s memory. In Meta AI Research’s September 8, 2026 safety article, Tarek Sheasha, Software Engineer and VP at Meta Superintelligence Labs, says: “You can inspect, edit and download these files freely, including Muse’s memory about you.”

Open the Muse app or web product and look for its current controls for accessing VM files and memory. Meta’s published article does not name a menu, screen, file path, or specific deletion action, so an exact navigation sequence cannot be confirmed from that guidance. If you cannot find the relevant controls, consult current in-product help or Meta support rather than assuming a particular menu exists.
What “forget” does—and what it does not establish
Meta describes memory as personal to each user: Muse can use details a person mentioned once to make later suggestions, and each person has a dedicated VM containing their data. The documented forget request and memory-file editing are ways to manage remembered details, but Meta’s reviewed materials do not specify whether they remove all related data, erase chat history, or how long changes take to reach backups.

Meta says VM files are continuously backed up so they can be restored if something goes wrong. Its article does not give a deletion or backup-retention timeline, so editing or removing a memory file should not be treated as a guarantee that every backup copy is immediately erased.

Forgetting a detail is not the same as changing which services Muse can access or opting out of model training. Meta says you choose which apps Muse connects to and can change access or disconnect a service at any time. Review those connected-service controls separately if your concern is data available through an app.

Meta also says interactions can be used to train AI models and that users can opt out in Muse settings. Its safety article describes inference data—including conversations, tool calls, and subagent handoffs—being used to train model checkpoints after key personally identifiable information is sanitized, unless the user opts out. Changing this preference is distinct from asking Muse to forget a detail.
What Meta says about ads and browsing
Meta says Muse conversations and VM data are not shared with its ad systems. Separately, it notes that activity through Muse may indirectly affect ads: for example, a merchant may be able to see that you visited its website. These are different data-use claims; the statement about ad systems does not mean activity during browsing is invisible to the sites you visit.

Does this control cover everyone in a household?
Meta’s materials describe a dedicated VM for each person, but do not explain whether household members share a Muse memory or can view or manage one another’s data. Treat the documented controls as applying to the person’s own account and memory; do not assume one person can delete or manage another household member’s information.
