For the quickest official league-wide check, open NHL.com’s Projected lineups, starting goalies for today page, find the game, and read the team’s projected units and status notes. The lineups are projections, not automatic confirmation: check the report again close to face-off and look for a newer update if a player’s availability matters.
Check the NHL.com report for the game
- Open NHL.com’s Projected lineups, starting goalies for today page.
- Find the matchup and the section for the team you care about.
- Scan the projected forwards, defense pairs, and goalies to see where the player is expected to appear.
- Read the separate Scratched, Injured, and, when present, Suspended labels, then read the accompanying status paragraph for developments or attributed coach comments.
- Check again near face-off for a newer update. A projection or an official procedure does not guarantee that a public report will update at a specific time.
NHL.com’s October 3, 2026 report labels its units “projected lineup” and lists scratches, injuries, and suspensions separately. It also describes a player as available while noting that the coach had not decided the player’s status. That distinction matters: a player may be available to play without being confirmed for the lineup.

Understand what the status labels establish
Projected lineup
A projected lineup is an expectation of who will play and which unit they may join. NHL.com identifies its combinations as projected, so do not call a player confirmed unless a cited update explicitly confirms the decision.

A player listed as scratched is reported as not dressing in that report. NHL.com separates scratches from injured players, so do not treat a scratch as proof of an injury.

Injured or availability note
An injury label or status paragraph reports information about health or availability; it does not, by itself, settle whether the player will play. Preserve the report’s uncertainty and attribution. If it says “game-time decision” or that the coach has not decided, the decision remains unresolved in that update.
Official eligible-player list
The formal lineup procedure is different from a public projection. Under NHL Rule 5, only players on the submitted lineup may participate. The rule says the visiting team submits its eligible-player list within five minutes after warm-up; warm-up is twenty minutes before face-off.

Why there is no guaranteed public confirmation minute
Rule 5 sets a deadline for the team’s submission, not a publication deadline for NHL.com or another public page. The official submission time therefore does not tell you exactly when a website or app will display a confirmed lineup. Treat the report’s latest wording and timestamp as the evidence available to you, and recheck near face-off rather than assuming a particular countdown guarantees an update.
How to tell whether an update is useful
- Look for explicit confirmation. “Projected” is not the same as confirmed.
- Check recency. A newer update closer to face-off is more useful for a fast-changing status than an older projection.
- Keep attribution intact. Distinguish a coach or team statement from a lineup that is merely inferred or projected.
- Read status and placement separately. A player can be described as available while the coach’s lineup decision is still pending.
The NHL.com page is useful for scanning games across the league; Rule 5 explains the lineup-submission procedure. They answer different questions, and neither should be mistaken for a promise that a public page will publish final information at an exact minute.
