To find out whether you received shares in an Indian IPO, check the issue’s official registrar page or the IPO bid/allotment verification route listed by the National Stock Exchange (NSE). Use the details requested for that issue. A UPI mandate or bank debit message is not, by itself, an allotment result.

Where to check an IPO allotment result

Start with the IPO’s official registrar, identified in the issue’s offer materials. Registrars provide allotment details and clarification, according to SEBI’s investor resources. You can also find the NSE’s IPO bid/allotment verification destination through SEBI’s securities-market resource directory. Use the official page for the specific issue rather than relying on a third-party result aggregator.

Pages and lookup fields vary by issue and service. Select the IPO, then enter the investor or application information the page asks for. Keep your application details available; do not assume every registrar or exchange page requests the same identifiers.

How to check your status

  1. Identify the issue’s official registrar. Check the offer materials or the official exchange resource directory to find the registrar or NSE verification route for that IPO.
  2. Open the IPO-specific lookup page. Confirm you have selected the correct issue and follow its current prompts.
  3. Enter the requested details. Use the application or investor information requested by that page, and submit the lookup.
  4. Read the allotment result separately from payment notifications. The result tells you whether shares were allocated; a UPI or bank message concerns the payment or funds process.

What the result means for your shares and money

Under ASBA, the application amount is blocked in your account while the application is pending; it is not transferred away as a payment awaiting a refund. SEBI’s Apply in IPO through ASBA guidance explains: “In ASBA, money to the extent of price of the shares for which the investor has applied, is blocked, but it remains in their account till allotment.” If shares are allotted, the amount required for those shares is debited. If there is no allotment, SEBI says no refund is needed because the funds were blocked rather than transferred.

UPI applications follow the same broad block-then-debit-or-unblock pattern. A mandate approval or debit alert is about the payment process, not proof that shares were allotted. SEBI distinguishes UPI debit notifications from communication of the share-allotment process. Successful allottees may also receive an allotment advice after the process is complete; treat that notification as separate from checking the result on the official lookup page.

Keep the three kinds of status separate

Record or message What it tells you
Official registrar or exchange result Whether shares were allotted for the application.
Bank or UPI mandate status Whether funds are blocked, debited, or released; it does not establish the allotment result.
Allotment advice or notification A separate communication about the completed allotment, including advice to successful allottees.

What to do if the result and payment record do not match

  • Recheck the correct IPO and the identifiers entered on its official registrar or exchange page.
  • For an unexpected or excess UPI debit, contact the lead manager or bank, raise the issue with the registrar, or use the UPI app or another available complaint route. SEBI advises providing the Unique Mandate Number and application details.
  • Keep your application information and relevant mandate reference so the registrar, bank, lead manager, or UPI provider can trace the transaction.

UPI application limit: useful context, not an allotment clue

SEBI’s investor guidance states a limit of ₹5 lakh per transaction for UPI IPO applications by retail individual investors, and says a third-party UPI ID or bank account will not be considered for allocation. These are application-process rules, not indicators of whether an application received shares. Check current requirements for the issue before applying.
