Use ffprobe to inspect the exact video file you plan to upload, then compare its video bitrate with YouTube’s recommended upload setting for its resolution, frame rate and SDR or HDR format. India does not have a separate bitrate target in YouTube’s published guidance.
There are two different workflows behind “24/7 stream file”: uploading a prerecorded video as a normal YouTube video, or sending a continuous live feed from an encoder. The recommendations differ. Use the upload settings for a finished file; use the live-stream settings only for an encoder feeding YouTube in real time.

Check the file’s bitrate with FFprobe
FFprobe is part of FFmpeg and can report metadata for the container and its individual streams. Run this command in a terminal or command prompt, replacing input.mp4 with the path and filename of your final export:
ffprobe -v error -show_entries format=duration,bit_rate:stream=codec_type,codec_name,width,height,r_frame_rate,bit_rate -of default=noprint_wrappers=1 "input.mp4"
The output may include values such as codec_type=video, codec_name=h264, width=1920, height=1080, r_frame_rate=30/1 and bit_rate=.... Find the stream whose type is video; its bit_rate, if reported, is the video-stream bitrate. FFprobe’s documentation describes selecting container and stream fields with -show_entries (FFmpeg ffprobe Documentation).

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
The format=bit_rate value is the overall file or container bitrate, not a video-only figure. It includes audio and container overhead. Google’s YouTube Data API documentation likewise distinguishes the combined bitrate of an uploaded file from the bitrate of its video stream (Videos | YouTube Data API).
If the video-stream bitrate is missing
Some files do not expose a per-stream bitrate in a useful way. If FFprobe omits it, do not label the overall format bitrate as video bitrate. You can report the overall figure with that qualification, or inspect the file with another media-information utility that displays stream-level metadata.

Compare against YouTube’s prerecorded-upload recommendations
For an ordinary upload of a completed file, use YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings, not its live-ingestion table. The SDR figures below are YouTube recommendations, not a universal minimum, maximum or guarantee of a particular visual result. YouTube also distinguishes HDR upload guidance; compare a file only with the relevant format and frame-rate category. The help page recommends MP4, H.264 video, AAC-LC, Opus or Eclipsa Audio, and variable bitrate for H.264 uploads (YouTube recommended upload encoding settings).
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →| Resolution (SDR) | Standard frame rates | High frame rates |
|---|---|---|
| 720p | 5 Mbps | 7.5 Mbps |
| 1080p | 8 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
| 1440p | 16 Mbps | 24 Mbps |
| 2160p (4K) | 35–45 Mbps | 53–68 Mbps |
YouTube groups standard frame rates as 24, 25 and 30 fps, and high frame rates as 48, 50 and 60 fps. These are YouTube’s stated SDR upload recommendations; the help page does not state a publication year. The recommendation is not a promise that a file at that bitrate will look a particular way. A higher bitrate cannot restore detail lost in an earlier encode.

Make a like-for-like comparison
- Run FFprobe on the final export, not an earlier edit or source file.
- Note the video stream’s bitrate, codec, resolution and frame rate; also note the overall file bitrate and duration if available.
- Choose the row matching resolution and the standard or high frame-rate category. Check whether the video is SDR or HDR before using the corresponding YouTube guidance.
- If the video-stream bitrate is substantially below the relevant recommendation, consider exporting the source again with an appropriate setting. Treat that as an encoding adjustment, not a guarantee of improved quality.
If you mean a continuous live encoder feed
A live encoder sends video to YouTube continuously; it is not the same as uploading a completed video file. For this workflow, YouTube’s H.264 live settings list 1080p30 at 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended, and 1080p60 at 6 Mbps minimum and 17 Mbps recommended. The live guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. Other live targets vary by codec, resolution and frame rate, so consult the matching row in YouTube’s live settings rather than applying the 1080p values to every stream (Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions).
For a continuous feed, file metadata cannot tell you whether your internet connection can sustain the stream. YouTube advises checking outbound bandwidth and leaving headroom; its streaming tips recommend 20% headroom and note that download speed can be higher than upload speed. This applies to maintaining a live feed, not to the bitrate of a finished file being uploaded (Streaming tips). As YouTube puts it: “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.”

Does being in India change the bitrate target?
No India-specific upload bitrate recommendation is established in YouTube’s published settings. Use the same YouTube upload guidance for the file’s resolution, frame rate and SDR or HDR category; do not substitute a regional target. For a live encoder, the relevant practical issue is whether your outbound connection can sustain the selected live bitrate with headroom. Connection stability and transfer time can affect uploading a large prerecorded file, but they do not create a different file-bitrate recommendation for India.

If your goal is to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running 24/7, StreamNeo is a cloud service from Yorker Media: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos in the cloud, so no home computer or connection has to stay on. It is YouTube-only and does not stream from a camera. Each slot streams what you upload, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo says it does not re-encode or use quality tiers. It also includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists, support, and a first free day with no card. The same product is included on every plan; only the term changes. India customers can pay by UPI or card; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support.
